Awesome reviews and especially great surf clips! Ive gotten a lot of great rides on my cymatic, but thinking I need to size up a little after seeing how well that 5’10” was working for you. You’ve got me stoked to try out the dominator 2 which seems to really be standing the test of time. If you ever get to try out the mashup I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts as it seems to be a board people keep going back to. Thanks for the down to earth reviews and stoke!

The Dominator 2 is a great board and a fraction easier to ride. On a Cymatic it sort of eggs you on to being more aggressive .

Thanks for the great video, love seeing regular surfers reviewing boards that they own and ride. Very helpful. I'm now a member of the 60 club, been surfing about 50 years. Currently here in South Florida. My two go-to boards are a sweet potato, 5'6. And the Revo at 5'9. Wondering if you've ridden a revo and how you felt it compared to the cymatic? I've been thinking about going with a 6'9 or 7-ft boss up or Revo Max Just to get some serious paddle power and wave catching machine. I'm a little concerned these longer boards might be difficult in the steep beach breaks that I wind up surfing quite a bit here in Florida. Okay, I see that you covered the Revo versus cymatic at the end! I need to be more patient 😂
@leighwilson15245 күн бұрын
Hi Keith, thanks mate. Yes the Revo I have done 872 waves on it. The difference is the Revo goes to rail easier than the Cymatic but not as good on the completion of a round house cutback. Similar speed but the Cymatic has a very slight edge over the Revo in wave catching, controlability and going vertical. Both great boards. I got to be fair I am comparing a 5'7" Revo to a 5'10" Cymatic. My Mid 6 at 7 foot is a high performance board. I think Harley Ingleby had a disagreement on sharing profit or construction (it might not fit into the Eco story without Bio Resins ) The Boss Up looks very similar to the Mid 6. The Boss Up is a result of a business break up.
@X2UKeith5 күн бұрын
@leighwilson1524 thanks! Any thoughts on the revo max say versus the boss up? Also glad to see you're still killing it out there!
@leighwilson15245 күн бұрын
@@X2UKeith I have not surfed either one. Both Dan Mann and Tomo are great shapers. If you were buying without trying I propably go with the 5 fin Boss Up because changing fins around until you get a sweet spot for yourself sometimes takes a while. The Revo Max has only 2 fin box set up which limits choices.

What an absolute animal!!! Edit: when you said about windy days (which we get a lot of in the Uk) did you say the volcanic or helium is better? Also do you find a difference between the shape of a dominator and a revo/cymatic? I surf an ibolic revo so this is of interest to me
@leighwilson15249 күн бұрын
Hi Jay, the Volcanic handle bumps better than Helium. The Revo goes on rail a bit easier than the Cymatic but the Cymatic is easier to go vertical and more controllable. The Dominator feels like a more traditional board, not as lively as a Cymatic, but a more conservative board and good for beginner to advance where the Cymatic suits Intermediate to advance

Great review. Got the mid6 and great in all conditions. Have you tried the mashup, looking for fun groveler for every day beachies, intrigued by the cymatic as shape looks like it would be a fun board with better paddling but they promote as a high performance board but sounds like it goes well in average conditions to? Always fancied a dominator. Cheers
@leighwilson152410 күн бұрын
No I have not tried the Mashup. So many good boards so little time :)
@chucks2223 күн бұрын
Mashup is a great board that is really perfect for beach breaks. Enough speed to get through the flats, but can still turn well in the pocket. Love the cymatic as it turns like a high performance shortboard, but paddles way better. For me I need a little bit more of a wave for it to go well, although Leigh was making it look great in the video even on smaller waves so maybe I just need to add a couple of liters.
@leighwilson15243 күн бұрын
@@chucks222 My first Cymatic was 2019 5'7" 31L I was 66 years old. 2nd Cymatic 5'10" 36L 71 years old. I weigh 71kg (157pounds) The older you get the less "Good Days" happen when surfing so volume helps in those not so good days. But my good days are better with more volume too because of the confidents volume adds and on a Cymatic with the round nose and less swing weight it hides the volume to performance ratio.

I’m 43, got the dominator 2 @ 6.0 35lt. I feel I’ve done my best surfing in on it, especially on medium powered shoulder-y type waves. The board really lets you know when you’ve engaged rail. I definitely agree about the windy/junky days, I don’t go so well on it.

Rip Curl suits develop pinholes way too fast, literally within a month or two and some right out of the factory. Problem is they try to tape the seams over the fuzzy liner, and the glue doesn't bond well, the liner is too fuzzy/thick. Xcel will last 2 seasons or more and only then slowly develop pinholes but it is not nearly as stretchy. If it fits you well, it is stretchy enough. The xcel is also pretty thick for a 4/3 because they use thick jersey liners. I have had 5/3s that didn't feel as thick so it fits a weird niche.

I recently had a very unpleasant episode with my Disco 5. The steering rack failed whilst cornering causing me to have an RTA. I claimed on my insurance for body and mechanical repair. 14 weeks in to repair and I am still awaiting return. Very long parts wait from LR (steering rack, suspension arms and subframe). Can anyone advise if I have a legitimate claim against LR as I have excess to pay on my insurance claim and the car is now devalued as it has been in an accident. I understand that this fault has been recognised with other LR models that have been recalled but not the Discovery 5.
