The tele health positions are not really options. I have no idea how anyone actually gets those jobs. They require you have licenses in multiple states - sometimes ten or twenty and they want you to have them before they hire you, and each job is asking for different states. You would need to register your CDS and DEA. You are easily talking $20,000 in licensure fees, let alone the hassle and the time to apply and the upkeep of each license. I can’t believe anyone does that, but they do and that’s how they get away with it. They pay lower than in person as well. If a company requires that they need to facilitate it and pay for it after they hire you.

Also, employers are now looking at social media and I would not be surprised if they look at your youtube page and make a decision based on what they see. I watched another NP on here who believes thats what happened when they didn't get a job.

You would be surprised how much discrimination goes on in healthcare. You can be qualified on paper but if the interviewer hates your accent, you will not get the job. It's sad. I have seen it all the time.

The problem you all want to run to be NPs . I suggest people move through,icu,ER and other rotations before they go to school for NP. They should require 10 solid years before people are accepted in a NP program.

My dear as I listen to your story I am hearing quite a few things from you. First, you quit your NO job without anything to replace it. Second, you have 2 very young children and a husband that you want to be at home with. Third, you desire to go back to school for CRNA. Fourth, you are living in the Midwest and not getting the jobs that you think that you should have because you are a NP. Lastly, you turn down a position because it’s lower than the job you walked away from and yet you have faith that God will give you something more. My question to you is, could it be that God has you stagnated so that you can become clear. I live in the Midwest and I am also a registered nurse. I had to be honest with myself as well and recognize what was the driving force in my life and career. So I as you if you are presented an opportunity that will allow for you to be home to enjoy your family but pays less money why would you turn it down? If you don’t have to rush to get a job and can go back to school while your husband works then just do that. None of us gets everything we want there will always be a sacrifice in one area or another. Finally, if you haven’t already noticed there is absolutely racism in the healthcare sector especially with nursing. Be blessed!!

Why don’t you just take a 4-8 week travel nurse position for now and just keep applying. You can start in probably 2-3 weeks go tax exempt for that contract for now.

It’s so discouraging I recently graduated Dec 2023. My speciality is pmhnp I also just left a toxic np job and it’s been very difficult finding another job. I’ve been unemployed for over a month now and I apply but no response, I had one employer setup an interview then call me the same day of just to tell me they decided to hire from within . The job market is bad right now I don’t predict it getting any better at least until after the election in my opinion.

The DNP to me is an unnecessary degree for a nurse. Advancement in nursing, unlike other professions, is not as respected.

I once saw someone on YT say that the NP field is over saturated because NP programs accept everybody and give out degrees like candy. So, if that’s true, it may be hard to find work.

I’m a 62 year old RN. Left patient care 20 years ago to do chart reviews for health plans. Worked up to highest money and responsibility. Then suddenly, our national health plan just went under. Totally closed. As well, my reviewing of charts work went to AI. AI can read and make decisions so all the nurses doing paperwork nursing who were burned out from patient care now have no place to go. I would rather slit my throat than go back to patient care but it doesn’t matter anyway because I’ve been out for 20 years so there’s no way I would be allowed to. So I find myself jobless for two years now. No one will hire me for anything. I’m literally applying for jobs with a 50% or more pay cut and they don’t want me either. In fact, there’s a new discriminatory practice out there. I used to get jobs as long as I could get an interview. But now the recruiter will call you and say we’d love to interview you, but we want you to do a little get-to-know-you video first. They want a video where I talk about myself for one minute. However, after doing these videos, I never hear from them again. There’s nothing wrong with my videos. I talk with a smile and just talk about my career, but the video is a discriminatory practice, that weeds out older people, fat people, and possibly even minorities . I can’t get past those videos.

Study harder. Gain more confidence. Do volunteer work or less than until.

If u wanna be a provider don’t go to NP school after ur RN go to PA school. You will always have a job as a provider with lateral mobility. No always going back to school to switch specialties.

Hey there love. Thank you for talking about this important topic. It speaks volumes as to how healthcare especially nursing is becoming a more difficult industry to attain a stable career. I do want to add a couple things from my point of view. RNs are leaving bedside way too quickly!! In my humble opinion, all RNs need to have ICU/High level acute care experience before enrolling in a nurse practitioner program for at least 5 years or more. There is a very laser focused underlining reasoning as to why CRNA school is set up the way it is. You dont know what you dont know until you have the experience to know that. CRNA students are now being comparable to Anesthesiology residents because they have to know pretty much the same curriculum and vice versa. CRNAs are approaching physician anesthesiology levels of knowledge when they graduate which is why the process to become a CRNA is very strict and much more difficult than "traditional" nursing school and it should be. Physician anesthesiologists are now teaching in many CRNA programs and you are expected to know and pass ALLLL your classes with near stellar grades. No offense to anyone but one thing for sure is CRNA schooling will be your top priority and NOT your family, friends, nursing job, etc. Nothing else will matter because you have to pretty much maintain A grades throughout the whole program in order to not failout. Also, many CRNA schools are requiring ICU RNs to have certifications after their name . Why you ask? Well because CRNA programs are getting more competitive every year. Those are going to be your CCRN, CSC, or CMC. Getting accepted into CRNA is already a beast. To graduate CRNA school??? That will take a monster lol. Issues with psych NPs: Psych NPs are for the most part wonderful providers of psychiatric care. I know this because I did my BSN capstone in an inpatient psych facility. I was with them and my precepting nurse every other day. The problem now is that psych NPs (especially newer ones) are loosing respect amongst their psychiatrist colleagues because their education and experience does not adequately prepare them for the job. It honestly takes a long time to become a well qualified psychiatrist especially within the realm of child psychiatry. IF anyone is looking into this career for a higher money grab and they have never truly worked a respectable amount of time in a in-patient psychiatric unit as an RN then you will be very lost, overwhelmed, mentally brokedown, and burnt out. Pretty quickly. You have to remember you are the one coming up with the differential diagnosis. How would you be able to differentiate someone with possible catatonic schizophrenia vs. schizotypal personality disorder? What if you dont notice the prodrome symptomology? Meds? Aripiprazole, lamotrigine, and other SSRIs are not always the answer and you have to know how therapeutically treat them. Lexapro is a good fall back tho lol. You are not going to know how to adequately do that in just one year. Any school that offers that should be reported and investigated. Right now psych NPs are making alot of money but if you pay attention to the trends, too many RNs and NPs are going this route and not paying attention to how they are flooding the market. Especially if all it takes is a year to become a psych NP. Soon they wont be any better off then the FNPs. Bottom line is RNs need to spend a respectable amount of time at the bedside and maybe jump into other specialties before becoming a provider. Thanks for reading this far 😊😊
