I would love to know what the actual problem is. So many rumors out everybody is scared to buy a tundra at this point.
@VikingsGarage41 минут бұрын
The actual problem is very simple… in the manufacturing process they never cleaned the engine blocks properly after machining. So that debris which is trapped inside the engine, slowly takes out the rod bearings.

Excellent video and information. I have a 2019 model with 47,000 miles and it is just like your model. My navigation system won't work with my Android phone as this vehicle only works with an iphone and the Entune app is outdated. Do you think my Toyota dealer could update my RAV4 so that my navigation system will pop up on the screen and other features?
@VikingsGarage10 сағат бұрын
It most certainly can, but they will charge you for the update.

The snorkel is not for submerging the vehicle. if water gets that high it would short the battery anyway. A snhorkel is only to receive cleaner air on dusty roads or offroading situations.

After doing the service on my way forerunner, I was looking at installing a three-way valve so that way none of the hoses need to come off in order to exchange out the fluid possibly even leaving a permanent 3 foot hose coiled up under the hood. Also, I was looking at taking that cooler pipe for the power steering unit and actually adding a small transmission cooler instead of just the pipe that runs in front of the radiator

In middle east youll see 2016-19 landcruisers with 300-500k miles, the earlier models (100& early 200 series) can be seen with more than 500k, some even higher than 750k miles. Its not uncommon.

I’m stationed in Rhode Island and I left around midnight on Veterans weekend to get to Cape May ferry which is about six hour drive. When I arrived at the terminal, I was curious how much I made from that drive and was at 24.5 mpg. Mine is a ‘21 bought it a little over a year ago from Texas before I had orders to move to RI. I added a front grille with a light bar (about 35-45 lbs), a rear bumper guard, and all terrain tires (at 34 psi). Everything else is stock and nothing crazy like cutting the bumpers. I’m surprised with the added weight that it didn’t affected mileage but the front grille did the trick to tell people to move out of the fast lane lol

Thanks for the great info nuggets! I'm about to buy a [used] 2024 4R SR5 Premium w/low miles. I'm wondering if I'll regret no longer having a physical ignition key...also, which years and trim pkgs still have the physical key available, and do you think it is worth it to get an older 4R just to have a physical ignition capability?
@VikingsGarage3 күн бұрын
It is not worth or that alone. Smart key is as good as a physical key or better. 2019 or older would have keys(minus limited trim)

18.5 on A/T tires and dropped to 18.3 with new KO2's. Arizona highway speeds of 80-85 is probably what keeps my mileage so low.

I just purchased my 2012 with 125,000 miles on it, a week ago. I've been shopping for a couple of years now but the prices were crazy. I was able to negotiate a great deal with a dealer that was trying to make as many sales before the end of the year. It's in great shape and well maintained. I'm putting my 2011 BMW 328i Sedan up for sale. Going from a beemer to an FJ is definitely going from one end of the spectrum to the other, but I love it! It was well worth the wait.

putting EV tires on the 4runner will probably increase the fuel economy tremendously. they are low rolling resistance. Nice little narrow hard as a rock donuts. Mobil, while providing the feedstock for Toyota-brand motor oil, has only a fraction of the percent of the recommended- by-Toyota molydenum in their oil that Toyota specifies for Toyota 0w-20 oil. " Toyota Synthetic molybdenum is 787ppm. Not double or triple other leading brands but in general well over 10 times the amount." google it. Why? Moly is sticky, why? when a cold electronic box-controlled fuel injected motor is started, the fuel controls are off, and large amounts of gas are dumped down into the cylinders. Watch what happens in the car care nut video when you start and then stop a fuel injected car while still in cold fuel dump mode. More oil (really gas) in the oil pan; and maybe hydrolock from pistons now trying to move in now oil-less cylinder walls. moly, perhaps toyota believes, keeps some of the oil still sticking on engine parts instead of all being washed off by the fuel shower. I can't unilaterally decide by the advertising influencers to buy their products because they think they know more than Toyota engineers who have designed, built, evaluated for long term testing, and applied every engineering trick in the book to improve the fuel economy of the 5th gen (and previous gen) 4 runners FOR FOURTEEN YEARS on the 5th gen alone. I disagree only with the Toyota corporate playbook for keeping oil changes infrequent (and cheaper for Toyota) while the free oil changes are offered, every 10,000 miles. Even the Car Care Nut master Toyota mechanic has shown in a video the scuffing of the cylinder walls on a 4 banger Corolla at 150,000 miles due to oil breakdown and advocates 5,000 miles or six months. The master Nissan chief engineer for Nissan racing advises 2,000 mile oil change intervals for regular car engines in a you tube vid. I split the difference and did my first oil change at 3k miles, $100 at the dealer and the best protection I can offer that beautiful KING of all Toyota motors. But you can ignore that frequency and still see plenty of 500k mile odo pictures of never rebuilt engined FJ's and 4Runners on the bulletin boards; must be the lower stressed v6 vs the working-too-hard 4 bangers, and the moly. So I run my 2024 4Runner at 77mph, a brick of aerodynamic inefficiency in a days drive for 700 miles on the interstates; doan worry about fuel economy simply because that fixation has been placed in the minds of American drivers by influencers to make them feel guilty for putting gasoline in the tank and instead should drive a sparky. Pay no mind (the press stays silent) to the exponential hidden repair costs of the sparky and the extra 4 banger wear and tear that hit the owner AFTER the warranties run out. 5700 miles in the first nine weeks of my ownership of my 2024 4Ever 4runner. Can't drive it as much as I like, cause my wife LOVES to drive it!

Definitely a worthwhile addition. When I added mine, I used the Red Arc controller and mounted the switch in the center console. If you keep a lot of tongue weight you don’t need trailer brakes. My RAV4 had no problem stopping a loaded Uhaul trailer. Modern car brake systems are way oversized compared to a large truck or bus.
