My story for Rocky Horror Picture Show : I met a female at a party back in the 80's. We started dating. She has been to the movie theater to see the flick before, so she wasn't a " virgin ". She knew everything to expect. I haven't, but she filled me in on the situation. Had a marvelous time, & we had planned to go again soon. We were even going to dress up like Riff Raff & Magenta the next time. I thought to myself that I wouldn't want to be the folks who had to clean up afterwards. Anyway, she started dating someone else the following week without telling me ( had to find out the difficult way ). Since then, I bought the album & have seen it on TV. Wasn't the same as seeing it at the movie theater, though. Magenta sure was my favorite. I could even sing like Riff Raff. Man, I sure do miss the good ol'days. ☺️. P.S. Someone should upload R.H.P.S. on KZbin, if it doesn't interfere with copywriting policies. Shock Treatment is on here.

RHPS: 50's meets the 70's ST: 80's meets forever, because our lives are exactly what it predicted over 40 years later. Also it characterizes the entirety of the 80's. Electric, colorful, fake, contained and kitschy even before 80's was those things, considering it must of been conceived before the 80's were around and filmed in 1980. Only thing it was missing was more electric keyboard to the music. I adore both movies for different reasons and entirely different messages. The ending of Shock Treatment is so creepy, but everyone is smiling and happy, insane, but there are some who escape. RHPS had people die, and the survivors singing a sad song about people being destroyed and some insects called the human race. Like, honestly both have such good commentary played in a fun memorable way with banging tunes.

I know Barry was so glad to just act in a male role for a change. I love that he's in this. Mainly the reason why I'll watch this film. But I love the atmosphere of this picture. It's everything that I would've been kept from watching and experiencing as a kid in the 80s. I would have gotten in so so much trouble for watching this then. That forbidden aspect is what pulls me in. 😎

I made it to the point where Shock Treatment was highlighted, and that film proves my point. Song about a blender, shower curtain. There might be one song in that soundtrack that's passable, otherwise, none of them come even close to being as good as RHPS
@RealBradMiller2 жыл бұрын
Nah, bitchin' in the kitchen is the worst one. Most of them are actually good. I feel like ST is more about the early 2000's and today.
@nomdeplume75373 жыл бұрын
There's one key element in RHPS, that without it, no one would know, nor really care about RHPS. That is the songs. The subject matter alone, in the hands of lesser talent, could've/ WOULD HAVE been absolutely dreadful. If they were bad arrangements, it would religated RHPS to irrelevance, and it would have disappeared a long time ago. I doubt it would have been made into a film. Without those songs which a well scored, intelligent and helped to propell the story. My favorite is ... "I'm Going Home" All of the elements for success were in the right amount, and in the right places. That led to RHPS unbelievable staying power.

I remember hitchhiking to the RKO in New Rochelle, NY and singing the soundtrack while my gf and I tried to get a ride. I was 15, it was 1976. I didn't like my mother much but I loved acting out the show for her...or anyone who walked into her apartment. lol Years later, when I was able to show it to her on VHS, she was still a little shocked... 😁 My older sister and I didn't get along but I insisted she come see it (she had a car) and that was the beginning of a great friendship. ❤

"Shock Treatment", is to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", in the same way that the Meatloaf album "Dead Ringer", is to "Bat Out of Hell", the first a fun filled ride with tragedy, then for the next one, it becomes a dark and more somber abusive type humor. I remember songs about Toasters, a town, and Brad being tortured, while on the Meatloaf side there was his song "I'll Kill You if You Don't Come Back"", which sort of stopped me wanting to listen to the rest of his stuff for a while, until "Bad Attitude" and, "Bat Out of Hell II" albums. I think I've watch "Shock Treatment" about 3 times, hoping it will be better than I remember, but then realizing that I probably won't re-watch it again. Then I forget about it, and try to refresh myself with it, "Oh yeah, that's why i never re-watched it". I still like that type of sci-fi horror humor. My favorite movie is "Transylvania Twist" with its silly songs, visual puns, and nuttiness, I just wish the songs had more to do with the movie events.

I quite like shock treatment but it’s definitely not at all like Rocky horror
@vixxcelacea27782 жыл бұрын
Calling it an equal was a joke on not saying it's a sequel or a prequel. It's entirely different than RHPS. It's a commentary on pop psychology and consumerism and has a totally different feel. That said, it's perfectly fine to not like it, but it really seems to vary. People seem to love or hate it. It also feels 80's instead of 70's even though it was filmed right when the 80's started, it already had the electric phony predigested feel to it which the 80's aesthetic is full of.
