Your work is not only inspirational its wonderful. How do you know when a project is finished because i tend to never be finished while working on my art...
@chrisloudartКүн бұрын
I appreciate that, Andy! I totally get it-knowing when to stop is the ever existing artist's struggle-sometimes the best trick is to walk away for a bit and see if it still calls for more when you come back to it. Easier said than done, I know! I've been practicing that quite a bit lately, as I've always been a bit of an over painter.

The process for me is nearly 100% experimentation. Sometimes I'll want to try a new tool or technique, but as much as possible I let what seems interesting or right in the moment guide me.
@chrisloudart2 күн бұрын
Love that approach! Some of the best work comes from just following where the paint (or tool) wants to go.

I wish you would slow down. Often your paintings are intriguing but then you obscure 98% with your “enhancements”. or your 15;minutes you decree. I think paintings could end when the creator sees what pleases compared to the CLOCK.
@chrisloudart3 күн бұрын
I appreciate your perspective, Nancy! For me, these warm-ups exercises are meant to be quick, experimental, and playful, but at the end of the day, the best stopping point is when you as the artist feels your art is done. Painting warm-ups the way I do them isn't for everyone, but they work for how I enjoy painting.

Enjoy watching and having fun with you as you paint. Regarding drips in a painting… I don’t like them. It always looks like an artist added them because they didn’t know what else to do. I don’t think they add visual interest, and they look sloppy. Glad you asked. I enjoy your wild colors and creativity.
@chrisloudart3 күн бұрын
Hey Devon! Thanks for sharing your perspective, and I respect your opinion on drips! I'm always striving to learn and explore new techniques.

How you prepare your canvas or paper ? Is it watercolor paper?
@chrisloudart6 күн бұрын
Hey Teresina! I gesso my canvases, but typically don't gesso the paper in my sketchbooks. If I'm painting on a loose sheet of paper, I will sometimes apply a thin layer of gesso. The paper in this particular video is mixed media paper (98 lb, 160 gsm), but I also like to use watercolor paper (140 lb, 300 gsm). I hope that helps!

I know your inspiration was cobble stones, but Its like a fishing net floating on the surface of the water, you can feel it bobbing around in the water. Periodically the salmon from the fish farm near where I live, escape the confines of the cages. And I was inspired to do a painting based on one of those escapes. I had fish breaking out through the net and swimming for freedom. I used as a stencil, one of those net bags that we get our oranges in, I made some of the hole bigger then after the stencil area dried I painted in the fish. It came out pretty good, and was a lot of fun to do. As always Chris thank you for the video and the inspiration, make your week and awesome week. Cheers!
@chrisloudart7 күн бұрын
I hadn't thought of a net! That’s such a great visual-fish breaking free, dodging the net, heading for open water! I can totally picture the movement and energy in your piece. And using an orange bag as a stencil? Love it. I collect those netted bags as well for stencils and collage. Thanks Mhairie! I hope you have a wonderful week as well! Cheers!
@howlingwind19377 күн бұрын
@chrisloudart well, I'm glad I passed that on, mind you my salmon probably don't really look like salmon, but the thought was there and the imagination can do the rest. 😆😆. I shall endeavour to make my week memorable! Thank you Chris. Cheers!

"Art is a conversation." YES! Love it! Mosaics are a personal favourite. I also have a thing for circles and stripes lately. And, yes inspiration is everywhere. I moved to Montreal 10 years ago because the public art, urban art, architecture, history and natural beauty of this city can't be beat. The place is throbbing with culture and creativity. I've never seen, or created, so much art in my life! Love your thoughts, Chris... you're very... inspirational!
@chrisloudart7 күн бұрын
Love that you found a city that fuels your creativity! Sounds like Montreal is basically an open-air art gallery with endless inspiration around every corner. And I’m right there with you-once circles and stripes grab hold, there’s no escaping! 😆

Great job man, love it. Can you list types of "tools" you used through out?
@chrisloudart8 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! I now have the tools in the description minus the various paint brushes. You can really use almost any #6, #8 brushes for this exercise. I believe I was using a flat brush, small round brush, and a filbert brush when I did this. I hope that helps.

Hey Marina! I'm just dipping my brush lightly in water and adding that to the paint. Since I'm working on paper I also try to go with thin layers so the paper doesn't buckle too much. I hope that helps!
