Tommy! Thank you very much for taking the time and sharing your experience! If you like to increase the resolution and maybe void any potential double trigger, please write me an meial. I can send you some riser blocks to lift the triggers higher and have them moved further towards the tip of the footboard.

@@boarheadblast I would love to see that! Given your skills and background/expertise and also being based on the west coast, I think you'd be a shoo-in. Your drumming in Neuraxis is still some of my favourite playing ever (those fills in The Apex still blow my mind). You're criminally underrated.

On ride wood sounds more full spectrum, carbon cut all deepness or lows, little flat, like cheaper type Cymbals. Yes they different
@boarheadblast
@boarheadblast Ай бұрын
You're right about the depth of the tone. That's definitely a trade off. It's like using plastic beaters on a bass drum instead of felt. I would probably not use the carbon fiber for jazz or folk rock, but for metal it works great. I low cut my overheads pretty hard anyways, because otherwise the low range gets real cluttered with guitars tuned to B standard...

Great video, thanks for making this.👍 Just a word about the difference between the Dutch carbon fibers (Kuppmen).. they are solid whereas the Techras are hollow and have a rubber shock abdorber in the grip.

Thank you. You just got a new subscriber. Leaning heavily towards getting the Expressive Steel. As you know, the G-Bubinga is highly regarded. I liked the sound of the Expressive Steel better. I am the same as you regarding rimshotting. I use them sparingly.
@boarheadblast

Yeah I'm very happy with both snares, and it's quite amazing to hear the difference. I'm pretty much convinced at this point that shell composition and bearing edge cut are the two most influential factors on a drum sound. I was stunned by the quality of the build on the EHS, and I certainly recommend it if you like that little bit of "pinging " from the steel shell. Another thing worth mentioning is how actually sensitive it is to various tuning. When you hit the right pitch for your kit, it just shines outright! Peace!

@boarheadblast
@boarheadblast 7 ай бұрын
I've been using Vibram's 5 finger shoes for the last 12 years or so. They are essentially gloves for your feet. Thin and ultra durable. The reason I use those is that before I ised to play barefoot, but I hurt my skin pretty bad, so these are the best of both world. A cheaper alternative is just to use water shoes from like wallmart or something. But I like the toe spread I get with the Vibrams. Also Neil Peart used dancing shoes with a leather sole from the 90's onward. The main idea is to a thin sole so you can feel the pedals better. Cheers!
