I am not American and I am white. I did not grow up with the history of slavery except from books, newspapers, radio, tv, my parents explaining, etc. And, of course, I could and can not understand the concept of someone owning another human being. It is mentioned here that slaves "slaves enjoyed ther new civil rights" in 1865. But weren't hey there already? In your Constitution?

Susannah Roote was my seventh great grandmother. Tried and found guilty, she was released for unknown reasons. She was frail and elderly and died soon afterward. She had not attended church regularly, evidently suffered from insomnia (burned candles at night), talked to someone when alone, and flew around her room. We seven seventh generation sisters are proud of our witch DNA.

My greatx10 grandfather was Nathaniel Putnam. Unfortunately, was on board with the land grab until Goodie was accused. Only at that point did he put stop to things.

One blacks know and especially Southern blacks, is when a "white person" has some "black" in their ancestry. I always felt that Clint Black had some black ancestry. I also feel that deep down he felt he had a black ancestor, too.

I want to go on this show so badly. My ancestors are such an integral part of the American story. One side is farming immigrants from Denmark and England and the other side is the Lakota Nation. Half of my family was wrongfully given the land that was stripped from my other half. If Dr. Gates and his team could uncover records from Indigenous Americans from the plains tribes I would be seriously impressed and grateful!

Her shirt is very tasteful. Dionne Warwick believes in being true to her elderly ladies voice by not pushing it as it's in very rusty shape today. Let's offer her praise that she can still sing and attract interest at 85! Beautiful effort ❤

Not funny, appalling and very sad. All the witch stories that were made up. Not your fault because of your ancestor, but probably they were afraid they may be accused themselves. This is all very sick. Salem, MA should be a place of memorial, not a disgusting disneyland of "witches" The Puritan are not what you think. They only believed that they knew the way, and had no problem killing and hurting those that disagreed.

What's really sad is Dionne's ignorance when it comes to slavery and where it really came from, and what makes it worse is Gates' refusal to clarify it, he's just keeping that racism misinformation alive. The truth has been out there for years but the feeling guilty white people from the left coast want to pretend that black people were the only slaves, the Chinese were never slaves, (Who built the railroad feeling guilty white people from the left coast?) The Irish were never slaves, Italians were never slaves, there were no one called Indentured Servants. However, you see, they know EXACTLY what we're talking about, but they want to pretend they don't, they want to say, "But...but...but...we changed sides" THEY'RE the ones who came up with slavery, THEY'RE the ones who came up with the Jim Crow laws, THEY came up with, " "Segregation now, Segregation tomorrow, Segregation forever" And Henry Louis Gates Jr wants to pretend that's exactly how it happened, in fact. I think he actually said on this episode, I'm not 100% percent sure, I'm just doing this from memory, but I think he said that his mom was european, it turns out his dad was totally white, which is typical for those people, they want to embrace their blackness, while denying their whiteness, exactly like the feeling guilty white people from the left coast said about Obama, they want to call him the "First black President" No, he's HALF WHITE, he was raised by his WHITE GRANDPARENTS. They don't mention they're white in any way because they know they'll be called an oreo cookie, they'll be called an "Uncle Tom" and instead of standing up for themselves and being proud of both races, they'll cower, they'll put their tail between their legs and slink away. I say all of this because of a documentary that I just saw of a white missionary who was captured and held for ransom while working in Somalia, Her name was Jessica Buchanan. The thing that she said I will never forget, though I can never find it no matter how hard I look, she described where she was assigned, and it was a location, as she described, was "in between two factions" She said that when she was going in between both, she had to switch convoys, she had to switch vehicles. The reason why that's important is because THAT is EXACTLY how slavery was. One sanction would fight another and when they would win, they would sell their prisoners. THAT is how slavery worked, feeling guilty white people from the left coast, white people weren't just going around randomly kidnapping black people, they were being sold by other black people, kind of like crime nowadays from black people against other black people, they haven't changed for hundreds and hundreds of years, but you want to stick your fingers in your ears and go LALALALALALALALALALALALALA. So what I'm saying is just admit the truth, admit what really happened, stop twisting it around to fit your agenda, you can be totally ashamed of what you did, but stop trying to change history.
