I want to drive down there, but i drive a Lexus. I know i can't go up far, but is the road decent enough to the town to drive a car (in decent weather obviously)?
@RoadtrippinwithTakacs7 күн бұрын
Ouray to the north and Silverton to the south are along this main road (the 550). It's also known as the Million Dollar Highway, and pretty much all cars can make it on this road. The dirt road you turn off onto is a short drive to the trailhead. I think it is between 1/4 and 1/2 mile down the road, and I saw several 2 wheel drive cars at the parking area. Just know your driving abilities before you attempt it. Have fun! 👍
@nicj53547 күн бұрын
@@RoadtrippinwithTakacs thank you. I grew up in Montrose, so I can drive in mud and snow, I just don't want to get anywhere I might get stuck, since our soil is clay and some of those roads can be all rock and really steep, like the road around Silver Jack to Ouray. If I can get to the camping area without much trouble I'll be happy, and it sounds like on a nice dry day that'll be doable.
@RoadtrippinwithTakacs6 күн бұрын
Got it. I don't think you'll have much trouble. In our Ford F-150, I didn't need to use 4 wheel drive, and when we visited the road was mostly level. It got a little narrow, but no scraping on the sides of the truck. The first parking area where we parked was a little wet and looked like it could be a muddy mess in heavier rain though.

@@RoadtrippinwithTakacs Only all your Broward videos. Interesting thing is that when I went to book the rules state that you have to have a sewer hose hook up. We are a van with a composting toilet the solids go about three weeks between dumping and the urine goes about four days. We only wanted to spend one night. So there would be zero discharge of any kind during our stay. We’ve been to campsites from Florida Keys to Grand Canyon and have never encountered such a rule.
