Never use red coolant (G12) on these older models of BMW (e36, e46, e39 etc..) It can do some serious damage to the coolant hoses, radiator etc. Use blue coolant (G11) and mix it 50/50 with distilled water. Also after putting G11 coolant you will notice a more powerful heater. I didn't believe the mechanic at first, but after I tried this I was shocked.

Thanks for the info, but, I know that g11 and g12 can't be mixed, but not sure why g12 would cause damage. You have set me off looking through all of the information on these again. That's another few hours of my life I won't get bac, and I doubt I will be any wiser :)

@SPANNERRASH I didn't say g11 and g12 mixed together, g11 and distilled water 50/50 mix. If you have g12 coolant in the car obviously you need to flush it and then pour g11 coolant. I am just sharing some tips from an experienced mechanic. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. Have a great day :)

That stupid bolt behind the master cylinder, in fact that whole brake mount/ engine plate/ spring is a proper pain. After I stripped mine I welded little bars onto the bolt heads so it was easier to undo the nuts at a later date. Then I sold the heap…sorry.. bike and bought a Guzzi. At least I made it easier for the next victim.😂

Hi mate, check the video description for the links, the parts I got are aftermarket but seemed great quality. If its a 3.0 TDI its likely to be the same engine or at least a very similar one. Make sure you change the coolant regulating valve in the engine valley too, behind the oil cooler. I should have changed mine as I'm quite sure that's still leaking and I will need to address it again.

The black and green cable is to the starter solenoid, you can see it positioned here on the top smallest terminal on the starter solenoid 27:37. I am so sorry to hear that you dropped your bike. I love these sport touring bikes and the vfr is really beautiful. I recently bought the kinda bmw version of this bike, the bmw f800gt with very low mileage, and like you, the second week of ownership I dropped it. I parked it and the kickstand lifted on its own very slowly, so I couldn't see it move before I left. I was unlucky and the clutch lever broke, also have some scratches but it’s fine. It was so annoying, and seeing yours dropped too, just wanted to share my experience. People say that the first drop is the most annoying.

I mount mine on a chep pallet with concrete screws, if you have loads of space anchor it down permanently, I brought a sheet of 10mm rubber cut it to fit the rim mount with a slit to take out the sloppiness of wheel nut guide and protect alloy wheel, also I slide 10mm rubber over the wheel clamp and over the bead breaker otherwise you will make a mess of any alloy wheel, and the top bead on a refit is………….😂

I gotta thank you for this. I had the same issue: height. The part where you’re cutting and your partner is pressing the 4X4, gave me an idea: Layers of 4X4s. Cut 4X4s into 1 foot (30.4 ish cm) sections. Join 3 side by side, lay flat and you have a 4 inch tall square. Make lots of these. I made 12. On 4, attach a backstop. Now I can add 4, 8, or 12 additional inches at each corner. Sturdy enough for stands, for even more height.

Hi there, greetings from Spain. Proud owner of a 6th gen also. If the front of the bike feels too heavy it may have to do with the front forks. These bikes are almost 20 years old… if that is the case and the suspension is a bit off, you can take the forks for maintenance. It is something that, at least in the Spanish forum for the VFR is many a times mentioned. Hope that it helped! Btw, I’m 23 years old and I get the numb hands 😂😂😂 even with raisers

Hi Michael, if you keep them in good condition and dont let them sit wet for a long time, I can't imagine they will degrade all that much if at all. If you build cribs to my design in the same way I have, you will feel a lot more confident under the car than you ever did with rickety jack stands. Always smart to put something else under the car when working though, as an insurance policy. Stay safe!
