Im still waiting on that fix for the pixelation issue because wow... the 1 Million x 1 Million was more important than fixing such a crucial thing. I don't wanna give up hope just yet since they're a solid team who worked on the original, but it sucks that its taking this long to fix such a critical issue

Dreams feels more like a video editor than an animation software, which is a shame. The most I can do is rough animation before getting impatient with the lack of features that 90% of other animation/art softwares have.

Honestly I don’t get why people are complaining this much, yes there are missing features but it’s still very usable. There are simple workarounds for most of the issues people bring up- for the resolution issue, just do your roughs in a lower res and then zoom into your canvas during cleanup. And the lack of a lasso tool is really not the end of the world… you can just redraw things. Ideal? Not at all. Temporary solution? Absolutely I guess I’m willing to turn a blind eye because of the many areas the app has innovated in. The stored/unlimited undos feature is CRIMINALLY underrated and has been an absolute game changer for me. Like i literally cannot go back to a program that doesn’t have this now. And of course the performing feature is incredible, works exactly as advertised and slashes animation time in half for me. I love being able to use all the gorgeous procreate brushes, canvases and palettes with no hiccups. I LOVE the grouping system and how easy it is to keyframe/mask a group in a non-destructive way. The timeline took a bit of getting used to but I’m in love with that too now. It’s so well thought out and feels really natural and easy to navigate. Plus it’s gorgeous But most of all, I’m sticking with it because of the threat it poses to the industry. Money hungry companies like ToonBoom and Adobe now have a competitor that comes at an unbelievably affordable price. While there is definitely room for improvement, I have absolutely no doubt that in a few years it will be to the animation industry what Procreate has been for illustration, and everyone will come flocking back.

Very relatable information we are making some scenes in procreate dreams as well and are wondering if you can go more in depth about what problems were arising when you were exporting and were they done in 4k background the pixelation you mentioned is something that has worried us and has made us rethink if we should just do everything in a dedicated animation software like toon boom.
@artjiujitsulife
@artjiujitsulife 29 күн бұрын
so I was exporting in 4k, the reg. wide screen. I didn't mess with too many other properties than that. This pixelation issue was not as prominent with other brushes, even soft round, until it was extreme CU. The brush- MY brush that I use for everything, The Syrup and the one I created (Syrup Adjusted) always has this very obvious jagged problem from the start. This brush just doesn't like Dreams. Its clear through other animators work that they commissioned, that its not a problem, however they are not transparent about wether or not they did all drawing work in Dreams, and not Procreate and upload, like I have had to do. I think Aaron Blaise was seen doing the flip book but in a pencil tool that is a bit more forgiving to this raster issue. All I know is I could not just wait around for Dreams to fix all the things, so ultimately I have changed all my software to finish this work.
@ThePargaBros
@ThePargaBros 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for the reply I very much agree with you about the quirks within dreams I think for Animation vector is just probably the way to go although I find myself having a hard time letting go because of my love for procreate, I also think in the penguin animation by Blaise they probably did some composition in another program and that sucks that they didn’t disclose that, not cool, I’ve been using dreams a lot and although it has it’s quirks I have to say if you stick with it it becomes very intuitive which Is what I like. Because other programs are extremely bloated but In the case of animation time is precious and to work on a project inside of dreams for hours or days to only find out when you export it does not look the same or render weirdly can be extremely disheartening, keep up the good work really like how transparent you are with the obstacles your running into while making your animation.

Yeah, I’d recommend to wait it out until they have actual features needed for frame-by-frame animation. Such features like the Zoom draw/Million pixels was so bad, and I’ve not opened nor used the app in forever. I’ll just wait till the app gets updated to a workable version. In the meantime, I’m working with Clip Studio Paint on the iPad, and it’s such a blast to animate with, tbh 😊 As for ToonSquid, it’s personally missing something that is quite important to me; I wish I could move the timeline to the top, so I can focus on animating without touching any other frames on the timeline while I work. Roughanimator has this and it’s such a lovely feature, and although RoughAnimator is missing some helpful features, it’s been nice animating in it. But I’m animating professionally with CSP in the meantime

"give it time" no offense, but the dev team for procreate dreams had 6/7 years to develop and its greatly lacking a bunch of features </3. it is indeed greatly capable, but for how much they marketed it, it was really underwhelming. i'd rather take my chances using toonsquid (esp since a major update will drop soon), the one dev team made TS in 2 years, all by himself 😭 and is far more better in most aspects.

Thanks for telling your story! When I discovered dyscalculia was a thing, it immediately clicked for me. Because of life circumstances I've ended up working in IT. I hate it but it allows me to live comfortably. I remeber my boss trying to teach me excel formulas and between the effects of anxiety/adhd/dyscalculia, all I could do is stare at the screen with its meaningless numbers and letters and desperately try to figure it out based on memory and patterns. It was so embarrassing and defeating. I'm not dumb but that kind of thing makes me feel so dumb

Your story feels very reminiscent of my own. The way you describe how you view numbers feels very similar to how I do as well. I never remembered my multiplication tables and my dad always thought my teachers just "didn't drill it into my head enough," but I was one of the only kids in my class who had issues with it. I did well in every other class I had except for math. I also failed my freshman algebra class in high school and had to go to summer school. I had never had to do that before for any other class. My parents would get upset and ground me and it's like they thought I just wasn't trying hard enough, despite me making A's in almost every other class. I'm still upset that they appeared to just assume that I was lazier when it came to math and just readily accepted that I wasn't trying hard enough instead of realizing that there was a reason why I was only struggling in this one subject (and science, when it involved math) and I needed help. I'm pretty sure the only reason I graduated high school was because my math teacher my senior year liked me and didn't want to be the reason I didn't walk, so she curved my grade to the minimum passing grade (a 70). When I was in college, the algebra course I took was a self-paced program where we had to take a test at the beginning of the semester so it could place us at the level we were at and build us up to the appropriate college level algebra. I placed at a 6th grade level and there were so many basic things that I had no clue how to do. The professor told us we could always ask for help when we needed to but for me it was like... I need help with literally everything. I ended up dropping out of college, and that class was one of the main reasons. I'm currently going through a full psychological evaluation as well because I realized recently that I'm also most likely autistic and ADHD, so I will learn about the dyscalculia when I get all of those results. I guess getting a diagnosis at 29 years old is better than never! lol but it definitely is disheartening to think about how differently my life could have turned out if I had gotten the help I needed before it was too late, so I definitely relate to that.

Hey thanks so much for sharing. I'm sorry to hear that many people throughout your life did not assess you or try to give you accomodations. However, I'm curious how the accommodations/help should work - suppose you are a student. Are accommodations mostly about giving students more time to complete tasks? If numbers are difficult then it might be that even having more time could be frustrating (e.g. in your measuring example, you might have difficulty holding the numbers in your head and even if you did it 10 times over, you might still make a mistake). Are there ways to "treat" discalculia, such as with certain exercises? I am basically curious what the Gr 10 math teacher did that enabled you to learn better, and how society can better support people like you.
@artjiujitsulife
@artjiujitsulife 2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much and for watching. A lot of good questions here, I may go more in depth for a future video with these. One accommodation could be time. Another one would be to use calculators at all times. There were always sections of units where they were banned and it set me up to fail, which I did. Also, for exams to all be open book. Which was also banned. I have fractured memory of my time in grade 10, but I had private sessions with them during all the chapters, I worked along side them as I actually processed the work.

well i might have dyscalculia too i guess. im so so terrible at math, always has been, i had to cheat so much just to pass, i probably wouldn't have graduated middle school if not for that. math and science classes were so traumatic, especially when i was put before a whole class to solve problems on a board and then ridiculed when i couldn't do it. any more advanced math problems are so abstract to me that if there is no clear formula to memorize and apply, i just wont get it. i can never remember numbers and also have the same problem you described, when i count something very often a random number pops up in my head and then im not sure which one was the correct one, so i have to do calculations all over again. i count on fingers or very often imagine or draw lines or dots with each number while counting to not get lost. i work in retail and cash is always the worst. i have to check 5 times if its the right amount and ofc its very slow, but whatever, its better to be slow then incorrect when it comes to money. but that job is minimum wage trash anyway so i try not overly worry, bc when i do and try to do things properly they say im too slow... i was never diagnosed bc i performed well in arts and languages and was perceived as an overall "unproblematic" child and also, to my knowledge, in my country during mandatory schooling, there are no benefits for ppl other than dyslectic and autistic in regular schools and even those are just minor accommodations that aren't what those kids really need. at uni its probably similar but idk for sure, never got to that. my whole education in general was just a nightmare. had to retake a year in high school but at some point i couldn't keep up and dropped out. i don't regret the decision, it felt necessary. i just regret not being given a chance by the system. anyway im applying to hs for adults this year so wish me luck bc i have no idea how im going to survive that again.... im, in a way, so glad that its not just me being "stupid" and\or "lazy" like they tried to tell me, like i tried to tell myself and that im not the only one experiencing such difficulties. this video was very soothing in that regard and for that, i thank you. we were children and the system failed us, but we have the same right to exist like every other person, so we do and the fight goes on.

I know until multiplication and that's it. I did a genetic testing and one of the results: "probably lower than average in maths" unfortunately it's true 😅 i'm trying to learn how to code now and even the beginning doesn't make sense, as I also struggle with logic. I had a very sensible math teacher who understood I couldn't pass (and in my country if you don't pass in a subject, you might be required to redo every single subject again) he just straight up told me: "look i know you've been studying a lot so i'm going to help you with this final test grade, you are a good student overall" he just gave me the necessary grade to pass.

It's heartbreaking to hear such a similar story, knowing that we've had to go through with this. I'm EXCELLENT at science- I've been obsessed with Paleontology since birth but had to give up on that because you can't touch sciences without math, and I had accepted that I was just too stupid to be good at math. My grade 2 English teacher asked if I was the R slur because I didn't understand how division worked no matter how many times she tried to explain it and it's something that's lived with me forever. I'm really good at everything else I do, but every career path I could take needs me to be good at running, and I feel like a fish in a bowl. It's had being too disabled to be given the chance to flourish/succeed, but not disabled enough for any kind of real support. It sucks to hear how many people go through this, but I hope things will be better for kids of future generations. I sincerely hope the best for you and that you're able to find something in life that's fulfilling for both you and your bank account.
