Theses regal locos are BUILT to be driven hard or it does them no good, the same as ONLY driving a car to the local shops 2 miles away all its life! It will coke up and fail. Cranky a loco up to 60/70 then it ‘blows the cobwebs’ out! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧

You make a valid point. Alas, there's nothing the smaller railways can hope to do about this problem.

If the Beeching Axe didn't screw over the railways, and Local Authorities refusing to safeguard routes, instead selling them off to Sustrans or housing developments (sometimes for as cheap as £1, yes £1 that's how little they cared), nearly every line would be like GCR.

I hate these so called big speed runs. Most is line side views. Very little footplate working where the most interest is.

I wonder how one goes about getting their 85 year old Dad a ride on a Britannia class footplate . He does have previous experience as he used to be a regular driver of 70040 "Clive of India" on the main line when he was based at Stratford , East London depot ?
@DavidDrinkell8 жыл бұрын
One of my treats as a very little boy was being taken to watch the up Norfolkman tackling the bank into Colchester station behind a Britannia - it was usually 70005 John Milton in my mind's eye, but Oliver Cromwell must have featured sometimes. Later, I watched Oliver Cromwell being unloaded from a road trailer onto the rails at Bressingham Gardens.

A FEW YESARS AGO I SAW 70013 OLIVWE CROMWELL TAKING WATER AT UPPER HOLOWAY STATION, WHEN PASSERS BY ON HOLLOWAY ROAD ABOVE PAUSED TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THE CELEBRITY. OFTEN THE GENERAL PUBLIC DO NOT REALISE SO MANY STEAM LOCOS, OR INDEED ANY, ON THE MAIN NETWORK NOWADAYS AND THESE SIGHTS CARGH THEM WITH A GRREAT SUPRISE

Well, Fairly high for a loco on a "preserved" railway (better than 25 MPH!) At least the GC having authority for exceeding the normal limit allows interesting views like this. Come on Craig, did you get 2nd valve? (to match the "air-smoothed" haircut ?)
@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf3 жыл бұрын
75 is very high for a preserved line, and thankfully the GCR is able to off these special facilities like no other line can. Will be in high demand when the two GCR lines are connected and provide 19 miles. Also a huge money generator for the railway.
