this looks way better than judo and bjj for self defence, bjj suffers on the takedown and judo is getting more and more limited in it's ruleset and causes too many injuries from it's tall takedowns, it also looks less brutal than catch and sambo with their emphasis on muscle, sad that where i live most japanese jujitsu places don't spar

Why is the striking pointfighting ?
@terenceangelo8714 Жыл бұрын
Probably an homage to Samurai Fighting where the hands and feet are akin to swords and spears (watch the video, it's less than 2 minutes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZqtamVurc-YiKM). There are three phases in Japanese Jiu Jitsu: 1) Striking, 2) Jacket Wrestling, 3) Submitting. Think of landing a punch or kick as hitting your opponent with your sword/spear - land enough clean hits, your enemy is dead (That's phase 1). Notice how in the video, once they close the distance, they drop their weapons to attempt a judo throw - in modern jiu jitsu, once you enter the clinch, you are not allowed to strike like you do in muay thai, you're only option is to either get out of the clinch or execute a throw (that's phase 2). Then you enter phase 3, where once you get the takedown, you have to submit (or as for case of the samurai, kill) your opponent. That's the gist of it, but this wiki explains it much better: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jujutsu#Sport_jujutsu Also, I think it's to incentivize takedowns, since they're worth more points, I think. Jiu-Jitsu is after all, primarily a grappling art before anything else.

@@terenceangelo8714sorry for the late reply but pointfighting sucks- bad habits because hands are kept low and you hop on one foot. However the continuous ju jitsu is fine. I prefer MMA because it's more realistic i.e. Thai clinch and ground and pound. That being said, some Karate is good. Lyoto Machida did Shobu Ippon pointfighting which is better than WAKO pointfighting. WKF Karate is alright but it lacks the power of JKA.

It's Japanese Ju Jitsu. JJJ is for self defense and it's the sport competition. Beautiful sport, mother of all martial arts!

@@alexferguson9856 this is Japanese Jujutsu (often spelled as Jujitsu and Jiu jitsu), specifically Fighting System. Have been doing it for a little over a decade now myself, and it's quite fun! Sometimes it also goes by Traditional Jujutsu or just Jujutsu, and all other spellings as seen before.
