Of course it's valid to love other seasons, but fall is just objectively the best😗🧡 Seriously though, love the vlog, and the fall haul! The snail is my favourite, what a cutie🧡 I really appreciate your reflection on From Blood and Ash, as I haven't been sure about whether I want to pick it up. Glad you liked Keeper of Enchanted Rooms, it sounds really adorable. Looking forward to all of the fall recs! My only fall TBR books at the moment are continuing on with the next book in the Veronica Speedwell Mystery series, A Murderous Relation, and a Promise in Fire by Jasmine Walt.

A fall recommendation for the Jane Eyre lovers: Villette by Charlotte Bronte This is arguably my favorite Bronte work. Critics believe it is semi-autobiographical, and the reader can glean some insight into Charlotte's infamous love affair with a married man. Think: a haunted school in Belgium, enemies-to-lovers, Gothic vibes, unreliable narrator, ambiguous ending. **a lot of the dialogue is in French, so just be sure your copy has translations

Happy Birthdays!!! Two of my sisters and I have birthdays within one week in May. My older sister is 2 days less than 2 years older than me, and I am 5 days less than six years older than the other sister (my third sister was born in June). I recently bought The Love of My Afterlife at Costco, but I haven’t read it yet (I’m kind of saving it until next year, when I plan to read all colorful and/or happy books…we’ll see how long that lasts, lol). I listened to The Husbands and it does get a bit repetitive in the middle, but then something happens that changes things up. You have me very intrigued with Station Eleven! I hope you both had wonderful birthdays.

Such great recommendations! Sweet bitter is really good. I worked for the same restaurant group in the early 2000s. My experience was not as exciting. I just finished the ARC of The Last Witch In Edinburgh by Mariell Thompson. Really good - Scottish folklore, feminist, Sapphic. It releases 8/20.

Here are some of my fav fall reads! Adult fic: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dracula by Bram Stoker (listened to it for the first time last year and was absolutely blown away by it!) The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte YA fic: The Luminaires and the Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard, The Drowned Woods and The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones, The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert, Gallant by V.E. Schwab YA graphic novel: Over My Dead Body: A Witchy Graphic Novel by Sweeney Boo Juvenile Fic: The Bellwoods Game by Celia Krampien, The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier (this is wonderfully spooky!) Juvenile graphic novel: Bunnicula by James Howe, Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen (so cute, a hug in a book), Séance Tea Party by Reimena Yee (another hug in a book!) I love Alix Harrow's books! One of my fav authors! I really enjoyed Starling House.

I had to pause to comment because I read Sweetbitter as I was starting my first ever serving job having moved to a new city just like the main character in the book and that was hella trippy. lol (also the book was just okay honestly) Edit: Now that I am at the end. Also I have read Payback's a Witch earlier this year! It's cute but honestly, with the conflict towards the end, I didn't like it and I felt Talia came off petulant. Bummer though because otherwise it was really good, it just gave me the ick a bit.

Some great books! I’m also planning to read The Familiar and Vampires of El Norte this autumn. I read God of the Woods last month and liked it so much that it made my favourites of 2024 list. Starling House was just ok to me, it felt a little YA to me. Slewfoot was a great eerie, colonial, feminist story. It felt more magical realism/historical fiction than horror but it was very witchy for sure. I recall it made it to my favourites list the year I read it. ✨ 🧹

Lovely video… really enjoyed exploring with you. As an Aussie I hadn’t realised that Americans had different book cover’s until last year when embarking upon my Agatha Christie reading challenge. Thoroughly entertained by the writing style ( not about the description of ‘old’ ladies in their 50s !!) I discovered that the US covers are completely different. Can you smart ladies maybe do a vid explaining to us why? Because I can’t think why publishers go to so much trouble… especially when you’ve shown that your eye was drawn to the UK covers repeatedly. No need to be nervous… you were awesome 😍
@ErinandElaina
@ErinandElaina Ай бұрын
From what I’ve read, publishing companies change the covers to suit market preferences of each country!! I guess the British have different tastes than us haha. US covers tend to be lighter and flashier than U.K. ones, and US covers more often have characters on the front! So fascinating. I used to live in England so maybe I’ve picked up their tastes 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for watching and your thoughts!
