Full sequence red lights are not followed by motorists even during day time. Running flashing Amber appears to be a significantly safer option.

Indians are JUST now learning what a traffic light is? This is so pathetic and funny. 😂
@sn7747Ай бұрын
Blinking amber is much safer at night, because my safety is in my control (when I slow down). Having solid light is more dangerous, because whenever I stop at the red light, I'm afraid of all the vehicles that don't want to stop and therefore hit me.

The pedestrians who think that flashing g green man means hurry up should really read what’s on the control box because it says Flashing means do not start to cross

I personally have had no issues whatsoever with pelicans. I have always found helpful instructions on the push button explaining what each signal means. And when I started driving, my instructor was keen to make sure I understood the signals, which I did and do.

I’m so annoyed by people who go to other countries and say things shouldn’t be a certain way because things need to be more like that persons home country instead. Basically, “I’m in your country.......BUT you should cater to me and do things the way I’m use to. You know.......the right way.” 🤮🤮
@grassytramtracks2 жыл бұрын
Sure, but equally, we shouldn't be arrogant and think we can't learn from other countries. Countries can and should learn from eachother. Yes, people can irritatingly complain about all of the differences and force their way of life onto others, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't adopt ways from other countries or that constructive criticism is never justified. Even among locals, I still think most people would understand flashing green as hurry up. Pelicans are being phased out as a result

This design has been the source of confusion not only for foreigners, but locals as well. The reality is that certain things need to be similar everywhere. Traffic lights are one of them...

wouldn’t a flashing red, like in the US, be more clear that you aren’t supposed to try to cross?
@tannawannavannabittannawan71386 жыл бұрын
Royce551 Actually in many countries the pedestrian signal flashes green before it goes to solid red unlike the United States where the “Don’t walk” sign flashes before going solid. They both make sense, but I think as individuals we usually believe our way is the right way.

thank you I learnt a lot from this video. the flashing green man is dangerous and the source of confusion. all the pelican crossings in Wellingborough have disappeared. there are only 3 remaining. 2 on oxford street and 1 on church street. Pelican crossings have also disappeared in Northampton as well.. the flashing amber is also very dangerous.
@Jasonm258707 жыл бұрын
drivers where I live take off through the red light as soon as the crossing is clear, they also fail to stop behind the second white line or in the pink area that's reserved for cyclists. Mind you, the drivers in my areas are prize pricks

When I went this last August to Gibraltar, there were still many pelican crossings, not so many of the newer ones.
@hebneh7 жыл бұрын
How strange that there are different types...I don't think I noticed these differences when I've visited the UK. In the USA all the pedestrian signals are uniform. Also in the US, the pedestrian signals are NOT red and green, so that they can't be confused with traffic signals just based on color.
@tannawannavannabittannawan71386 жыл бұрын
hebneh ~~actually here in the United States pedestrian signals aren’t uniform. There are various versions in different parts of the country and sometimes various versions in different cities. For pedestrian crossing they have the standard traffic light, in California they have pretty much the same thing as seen in this video except for instead of the flashing yellow, the driver see a flashing red light. There also the newer HAWK Signals, and many pedestrian crossings don’t even have a traffic light, but instead a sign and a strobing yellow lights. It’s definitely not completely uniform across the United States.

As someone with disabilities, I find "Puffin crossings" difficult and dangerous to use. From people standing where the red/green man is making it impossible to see, to where there are many red/green man lights facing various directions, these discriminate against the disabled. It is far clearer and better for the red/green man to be on the opposite side of the road.
@sambee89827 жыл бұрын
+Graz D Yeah, I agree. Pelican Crossings are a million times better than Puffin Crossings. Besides, Puffin Crossings aren't what they say they are meant to do, because they're supposed to cancel if the pedestrian walks away, and the length of time is supposed to be different according to the pedestrian's needs, but when I tested the walkaway after pressing the button, the pedestrian phase still appears on the Puffin Crossings even though there's no one crossing!
