Hi Dylan! I always thought that the default sharpness should be set to 100... so I noticed that even in 2k there is too much annoying sharpness. Do you think that 10% represents the original sharpness of the file?

Would like to support your affiliate links but need help. For the Samsung 980 Pro link, there are 2 options. Did you get the base 980 Pro or the 980 pro option that says "with heatsink" or would either of them fit the Orico enclosure?

I think either of them would fit but I don’t know for sure. I’m using the one without heat sink.

It shoots raw cinemaDNG video - which has a very flat log-like look, with the option to bake in a color profile (which I never do). I always leave my color profile setting to “off” and color space transform to rec709 in Post. I actually don’t do that much work in color for the fp anymore. Now my process is even simpler than it was in this video

I was just trying out this enclosure with a WD SN770 2TB but its write speed dropped too much once it was at 50% capacity to record more than 60 seconds at a time. Just wanted to ask: Are you able to record longer clips with the Samsung 980 PRO all the way to the end of its capacity? And do you have any experience with the 2TB model of that same drive?
@DylColeman26 күн бұрын
Sorry, I don’t. I’ve only been recording short clips with it thus far. Haven’t tried recording a roll with the fp yet. Still use the bmpcc4k for that. No experience with the 2 TB model either 😕
@danielsen024 күн бұрын
Having that same issue! Not sure which nvme to use to allow it to keep recording the whole time. Thinking about trying the samsung to see, but my only success is with the t7 external drives. The nvmes work but have limited recording.
@hobozero99663 күн бұрын
@@danielsen02 I've got an answer for you! I'm using a WD SN850 and it works flawlessly until 100% full. I think the high end Samsung drives are also sure to work. Any NVME with more than 500MB/s *once the write speed drops* will work. They all slow down once the cache is filled. And you can see these speeds if you search for "Techpowerup Write Intensive Usage." They do good tests for many, not all, drives. If you look up the WD SN850 you'll see on the chart it starts writing at 5,000 MB/s then drops to 1,000 MB/s so it works.
@hobozero99663 күн бұрын
@@danielsen02 I've got an answer! And youtube keeps deleting it for some reason. Basically all NVMEs have a cache that fills up, and then they slow down. You need one that doesn't slow down below 500 MB/s. WD SN850 works, and you can look at tech power up's NVME reviews under the "Write Intensive Usage" section and its chart. The SN850 starts at 5,000 MB/s, then drops to 1,000 MB/s for the remainder of its capacity. Any NVME like this will work, but most are not made for sustained write. I think most of the high-end Samsung drives also work. Just check out their reviews and that one particular chart.
@hobozero99663 күн бұрын
@@danielsen02 KZbin will not stop deleting my replies, maybe because I'm referring to an outside website even if I'm not linking anything. You need to find "write intensive usage" tests for any particular drive you're curious about. There should be a chart that shows the drive starting off really fast, then dropping dramatically once the cache fills. As long as this lower speed is above 500 MB/s, the drive should work. My WD SN850 starts at 5,000 and drops to 1,000 so I can fill the entire drive with the highest quality the FP can record.

Fantastic video, Dylan! I finally bought the bullet and picked up DVR Studio specifically for the auto captioning feature, but have only recently used the transcription feature in my workflow (mostly to identify chapter marker points for my livestreams). A true game changer for me! On the audio side, I use Waves' Clarity VX plugins when I'm working with bad audio (usually when my co-host and I are recording a podcast episode in a Tim Hortons' 😂), but prefer to get it right at the recording stage than "fix it in post". I'm a pro VO artist, so I've invested in the room treatment, etc., to do just that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think its time to stop editing videos in Sony vegas 10 and finally jump to Da Vinci xP I avoided premier like the plague because cutting and editing in general in Vegas was so intuitive compared to other softwares. I don't understand why all softwares dont have the same functions of dragging to edit, they always have to have some new weird way to drag and clip. And the subtitles, OMG, no more doing them by hand xP

Why not using a higher ISO to have more detail in highlights by shifting the dynamic range instead of under exposing?
@DylColemanАй бұрын
I tried shooting at 640 and 800 after it was recommend by some others, but it ended up producing a lot of odd noise patterns in the footage. I’ve just liked the way the footage looks when I raise the exposure after the fact. Haven’t done a lot of testing though. Do you shoot with the fp at higher ISOs?

How about the SN740 m.2 2230 SSD 2TB NVMe? Double the storage in a smaller size format.

Funny enough it was the smaller size 2TB NVMe that gave me issues when I used it with the DPL setup I mentioned in the vid. Couldn’t get rid of the cricket-like squeaking noise it produced. But others have said they’ve been happy with that larger capacity smaller NVMe 🤷🏾♂️

Method #2 sounds wonderful & I'm still trying to get the process to sink into my brain. On the codec issue, I'm mainly using pre-existing video, not raw camera footage. Does that make a difference on whether using Timelines or Method 2 to edit is safer? I'm not spending a lot of time in the Color page on grades or more complicated lighting fx (yet) so wanted to be sure...thanks! * *new sub* *
@DylColemanАй бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the sub. The type of footage that you're working doesn't really affect which method you would use, I just like Method 2 because it also saves all those stills and groupings on the Color page. If you're not doing a lot of Color then media managing by Timeline should work fine for you. That's the method I used for a while until I tried out the other way
