Not that I know of I am afraid. I did a quick bit of research, and it appears there is no functionality. I have my Portfolio connected through www.richardchubb.com, which is a Wordpress site. That is capable I believe of adding a plug in to change languages. However, when someone clicks on the menu link to look at the images in Portfolio, they would revert back to a basic English language site (or whatever your Portfolio default language is) Sorry!

Hi, nice tutorial, Question: How do you convert your Raw photos to jpg in Lightroom?

Thanks for watching…the converting to jpg happens during the editing process. Basically, I have a preset set up that exports jpgs and automatically reimports into LR into a subfolder. It means I have jpgs for my website, or social etc, depending on the size file I need. So, it doesn’t actually happen inside of Lightroom, but I never have to manually import them back into LrC or into my website. Hope that makes sense. It also means that as they are in a Collection, I can automatically share from my Mobile to Instagram, or see them when I am away from the main desktop. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reminder that I need to follow through to update my site. I've used Portfolio for a bit, but didn't know it could sync with Lightroom when I initially set it up. I decided that I needed to update it and haven't gotten past my first step yet.

That is a pain. I am assuming you are using LR, and not LrC (Classic)? If you do use Classic, you can edit anywhere with smart previews via Collections, and it doesn't use up any cloud storage at all, and syncs back to your desktop. Just thought I would mention it in case, thanks for watching....

exactly what I was looking for! im trying out a workflow now for my smaller sessions where I transfer the raws from my zf to my iphone as an initial backup and apply my preset. i then want to transfer them to my classic catalog. Will this work with raw files as well that are edited on my phone, as far as transferring them to my desktop?

Pretty sure it does, although my app that transfers from my camera to phone (Canon) I have set to transfer in JPG, leaving any RAW editing for when I get home, and import from memory card. Should be pretty easy to test though. Thanks for watching

Hi, sorry, I am a tad confused. You mention the "LOCAL TAB of LR Classic"? Lightroom CC is the one with the LOCAL TAB not LR Classic, but I still can't see where you can colour code images or folders in the CC version. For as long as I can remember you have been able to colour code in Classic which is one of the reasons I love Classic. Are you able to just clarify your comment please? Thanks for watching! 👍

Richard, I have 11 years of pictures in my folders on Lightroom Classic and I'm in need of saving to an external drive. Do I need to move each year separately to the external drive and then move the catalog? The last two years I've added a lot of pictures eating up space on my hard drive and concerned about losing stuff.

Hi Steven, thanks for the question. You could move the whole folder in its entirety, but I am not sure about the size, and how long it would take. Also, the processing power of your computer, if that is 11 years old too? Do you have a back up of your photos somewhere? If not, it is definitely worth making this the priority before you start anything. If your folder structure on your hard drive is by year, then you could move a year at a time, but would suggest you get all the years moved first before moving the catalogue. Again, depending on the time it takes, this may be a process that happens over a few hours/days. Another thing it would suggest is, do not be reserved with the size of your new external hard drive. Way back when, I thought 6TB would be plenty! I am now using two 20TB WD drives (one backs up to the other), containing over 10 years of photos. I have over 600gb left still, so hoping it will last a good few years more before I have to worry about it again. I will reiterate the above, please ensure you have a back up before you start. I have lost a hard drive before (not due to any process that went wrong, but due to it falling off a shelf) and didn't have a back up.....I wouldn't wish that on anyone!! Good luck!

@@richardchubbUK My current laptop is only 1 yr old, but had moved stuff thru 2023 LR to a small 2TB external drive from my old laptop which almost filled it up. So I got a 5TB external drive to backup LR off the new laptop. I think I will move the folders a year at a time per your suggestion and then move the catalog. This seemed to be the easiest way to do it from all the videos I've watched. Thanks for your timely reply.

Would this work vise versa? I did this and it totally worked ! iPad LR pics are on desktop but not the photos from my computer are on my mobile LR.. Another thing is my presets that are on desktop aren’t showing on my iPad which is weird and I really would want to switch over to IPAD LR to work more there while I’m on the go!

When deleted from LR Mobile (I'm not used to work with this one), are they deleted from Apple Photos as well or do the photos remain there too in that workflow you just show here ?

Hi Lightroom Mobile and Apple photos are separate, so deleting from LR should not affect Apple. Best thing to do is to take an random photo, then delete from both to be sure, but I happily delete from LR with zero impact on the photos in Apple Photos. Hope that helps

Really good coverage. I’d like to chat with you about an overview video about how and why to manage your images in LR Classic with some, not all, in LR CC. I think I want my library managed by LR Classic with all the metadata, key words, etc. I’d like to easily move images from my phone, including edits which I made with LR CC; and I’d like to keep some special collections, i.e. “Best”, certain events and locations, in the cloud so I can show them, edit them, have back up storage, etc. I’d love to chat with you about that. I am not sure what is happening but this is my situation. I am working on my portfolio and I want to share my photos with my teacher so she can review, select and make proposals. What I wanted to is to sync my portfolio photos from Lightroom Classic to Adobe Lightroom (web). What I did was: 1. Created a Collection out of a Folder 2. Sync LrC to Lr. 3. My pictures synced but it was a mess, so 4. I removed all photos from Lr. 5. I synced again LrC to Lr. 6. The result is that only one photo synced. Issue: It's been several attempts and only one photo is syncing into Lr. By some reason, in my Lightroom Mobile 21 photos were synced. Can't figure out what is happening. Should I just uninstall everything and start again?

When you say it was a mess, what do you mean? What happens if you click on the cloud icon in the top right of LrC, and when the dialogue box comes up, hit Alt (windows) or Option (Mac) and click View Sync Status on Web. Anything look odd there?

@@richardchubbUK By mess I refer that my previous syncs included duplicated photos, and were not done appropriately, and that was probably incorrectly done by myself, therefore I proceeded to remove everything and resync the collection I wanted but then it happened what I explained. What I did to continue with what I was doing is to create a new catalog out of my "portfolio folder" in LrC. I opened the new catalog in LrC and then synced to Lr, which it worked, but again, 9 photos are missing. I thought some of the photo might be duplicated and checked which ones were virtual copies, but I counted only 6 virtual copies in LrC and don't tie up to the 9 missing in Lr. Is there a possibility my catalogs are corrupted? Or am I doing something wrong? Could it be that when I deleted photos in Lr somehow it instructed LrC to not allow sync anymore from that original folder? Does that work that way? For now I will continue with the work but if you can shed some light would be great.

Do you mean that are already on your iPhone Camera roll? You could set up a Synced folder in Lr Mobile, then sync this to Cloud, and make sure this syncs to LrClassic? Haven't tried it, but logically it should work. Maybe!! :)

I used the single menu on my 40D and now I've got 2 or 3 and my R5. It's very handy, even if I do occasionally run into something that I wish I had added there. I need to review mine again and modify a bit I think.

Understand entirely how you’ve been feeling I have my own none photography business and we’ve been renovating a house so I’ve hardly had a camera in my hand and I have been feeling really frustrated about it so I’ve made myself take a camera with me EVERYWHERE, sod the extra weight etc and made sure I take a bit of time to learn to start seeing again. The concept of the local tab is a welcome edition. I have a feeling the implementation thereof is just beginning. I find using the local tab panel a bit unintuitive. I would like to see an 'Include Sub-Folders' option.
