Seemed simple enough but when I tried it, Lightroom Classic said "The folder named "Pictures" contains your Lightroom catalog and cannot be moved while Lightroom is running" Kind of hard to use this technique without running Lightroom.
@richardchubbUK14 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. It sounds like you are moving both the Catalogue and Photos at the same time? I do not know your folder structure, but in the Pictures folder, is seems you have the Catalogue, and the Photos. Manually Create a Pictures folder on your new hard drive. On your old one, in Lightroom, move the folder that JUST contains the photos (so the folder within the Pictures folder), to the new hard drive. In the old pictures folder, you should be left with only the Lightroom catalogue. Then, close Lightroom, (as mentioned in the video) and then move the LR catalogue to the new Pictures folder on the new hard drive. Double click the catalogue in the new location, and all should be ok....

loving your trips to the new forest as a local myself I too struggle with composition but yours are way better. have you done the obligatory sunset at Hatchet pond yet, its worth a visit at different times of the year. Also Beaulieu is lovely around the village lake etc. Also Bolderwood is another gorgeous place to try keep it up am enjoying your outings. I just need to get my mojo back and take some steps out again.

Thanks for the nice comment. I did Hatchet Pond a few years ago. Photos are somewhere, but I must go back and try again. Blessed to be local to such a great place in the UK. I have my eye on a couple of shots around Beaulieu, but I need the right tide times at the right time of the day, with no family commitments on that day. Hopefully the stars will align one day!! I sometimes have to force myself out, but once I am there, I am so glad I did! Hope you get your mojo back 👍

It never works, and I spend more time trying to fix issues. There is no way to see what images are not in a collection, so it's totally pointless other than for one-off events or viewing. I have no idea how to find if a file is an original or a linked file. It's 2024, and it's still a dinosaur and a piece of junk. Stats never match and spend more time trying to figure out the issue. Only synch a collection or it will get a mess. And more often than not it will not synch. To clarify for reviewers when the photos were taken around the office, the Lightroom app camera was used, not Apple. This is pointless as no way to see the photo you just took with Lightroom unless manually checking !, Better free apps than this junk. Better syncing your Apple photos to Lightroom. The only benefit is to fill up your cloud to force you to buy more storage as you do not realise the scam Adobe is pulling. It took me 10 minutes to synch a single photo from my iPhone to MacBook Pro and still no sign of it in the cloud lol

Very good explanation of a very complicated process. Thank you so much. There is one big issue, you didn't mention though. Normal keywords are not reliably synced, hierarchical keywords aren't synced at all and persons names aren't synced in any direction. Adobe support says, that's because LR can't manage hierarchical keywords. How ridiculous is that?
@richardchubbUK14 күн бұрын
Good point, but I have only just started using keywords properly to get them into Collections. Don't really use LR CC other than to get images to my Adobe portfolio website, and editing between iPad and Desktop so not encountered may issues. Does seem strange though, thanks for the view and the comment.

Any ideas other than manually "eye balling it" to get the result from the first set from the 2nd set?
@richardchubbUK20 күн бұрын
Do you mean trying to correct the second set if all the camera settings are the same, and the Match Total Exposures option doesn't work? If this is what you mean, then I haven't investigated, but off the top of my head I can't think of a way without fiddling around. I guess you could click on the Auto option in the Basic's panel, but this is quite a 'hopeful' way of doing it and relying on LR to do the work...Soz if that doesn't help!

Not a landscape photographer myself, but I can tell you from looking at a few of those images from a viewers point of view my opinion. I think they are lovely photographs, however my only critisism of a couple of the tree shots, it appears to break the rule of thirds which I know is a personal perspective. From my point of view either a bit more sky or a bit more water with the trees one third up or down would have been more pleasing to the eye. I have done photography for decades now as a hobby and I can never get that perfect shot. I now have simply stopped trying and concentrate on what pleases me and my eye.

Bear Lake photo… if you were a painter and painted that scene witout the tree no one would give a s….. As a landscape photographer I think you are entitled to the same ‘artistic freedom’ If it were a documentary photograph…. You just don’t touch anything! In landscape photography using a graduated ND filter or enhancing the light are the same thing. Just do it if the photo is better that way. Your photo, your call… I like it

@jimphilpott902Ай бұрын
I have two comments: first my opinions stop at the end of my nose and the beginning of yours. You are the artist. Do what pleases you. Second, long exposure photography with a 10 stop neutral density filter often does not record people who are moving.

Absolutely correct, and something perhaps I should explore next time, although in many of these places we visited (not limited to those in the video) there are always people just sitting around, like the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, but I appreciate your point 100%! Thanks for watching
@billgulker6187Ай бұрын
IMHO, a photo is either real or fake. Real photos are used for news and reporting and fake are used for everything else. Some people like to think of their photography as news which is fine and should therefore make no modifications. Once you cross the line into fake, skies the limit. I see no difference between what you have done and sky replacement. It's like you can't be a little bit pregnant.
@richardchubbUKАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment. Manipulation of what things look like appear around us everyday. Take people wearing make up for example. That could be potentially 'cloning' out what are perceived as imperfections. I agree, that removing people is perhaps no different to replacing a sky, but the main thing for me is that scene I leave (with the exception of my last photo) is what was there on the day, just littered with people or cars. I am not replacing the steps, or the sky, or the horizon, I am just removing temporary objects that clutter the beauty of what is there. That is what is great about art, and how people see things, that is can be viewed in many different ways, and I respect all peoples point of view. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated and definitely food for thought..👍

Not that I know of I am afraid. I did a quick bit of research, and it appears there is no functionality. I have my Portfolio connected through www.richardchubb.com, which is a Wordpress site. That is capable I believe of adding a plug in to change languages. However, when someone clicks on the menu link to look at the images in Portfolio, they would revert back to a basic English language site (or whatever your Portfolio default language is) Sorry!

Hi, nice tutorial, Question: How do you convert your Raw photos to jpg in Lightroom?
@richardchubbUK2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching…the converting to jpg happens during the editing process. Basically, I have a preset set up that exports jpgs and automatically reimports into LR into a subfolder. It means I have jpgs for my website, or social etc, depending on the size file I need. So, it doesn’t actually happen inside of Lightroom, but I never have to manually import them back into LrC or into my website. Hope that makes sense. It also means that as they are in a Collection, I can automatically share from my Mobile to Instagram, or see them when I am away from the main desktop. Hope that helps!
