Mate, soak the Pistons in a tiny amount of MEK (Methyl-Ethyle Ketone), just enough to cover the crown. (make sure that shit doesn't get on your head gasket! It'll eat it.) When you are ready to empty it, flush the cylinders with water *Heavily*. Then keep the plugs out for purging, as usual. Then drain. Obviously, keep it super slow when oiling back up.

@peterfranco6610 would this free up the oil control rings?
@peterfranco661023 күн бұрын
@@ModorFix Yes, if they are carbon locked. However, if they are rust locked, you'll have to use a vinegar *Safest* (Or Diluted Muriatic acid soak. ***User beware***, this will eat your cylinder walls to some degree.) @rahulnadkarni-h4v it's a cosmetic mod. I think you should inform the insurance company about all mods. I would think a handmade paper gasket + spray gasket sealer to both surfaces would be a much more effective oil sealent, than gasket-goop applied to one area around the tensioner. Think. With the goop applied, you no longer have two level--true--mating surfaces. The tensioner is no longer lying flat against two machined mating surfaces. Paper gasket material (from auto parts store) cut-to-measure + Permatex spray gasket adhesive, adds a proper sticky--EVEN--layer to both mating surfaces. That is how any apprentice machinist would approach this problem.

That foamy look to the fluid typically means there is air getting in the system somewhere. I don't think it should do that simply because the cap is off. I had an old Honda Pilot that did the same thing and had a bad whine to it and the fix was to replace some o-rings. I'm curious if that's possible on the Z32?
@ModorFix6 ай бұрын
That was nearly 2 years ago and it works just like it should now. I think the air bubbles were introduced when I disconnected the pipe and released a load of the old fluid. When I put the new fluid in, no doubt it would have had some trapped air in there.

Hello mate, thanks for posting this video. I've recently purchased a 300ZX Twin Turbo and really want some BOV's. The usual "forums" strongly advise against it due to the MAF, then I found GFB's website and went down a slight rabbit hole. Assuming you still have them, have you had any issues since the video? And do you know the difference between MACH 2's and their normal "universal" range?
@ModorFix7 ай бұрын
The reason people advise against BOV's is because they usually vent to the atmosphere, creating that whoosh sound everyone knows and loves. However, that lovely air that is expelled causes a mis-match in the ecu as to what the MAF registered coming in, and what is actually in the system, this causes over fuelling. With a standard MAF in place, best to get this style of BOV which re-circulates the air. That's why I went for the GFB. The stock ones recirculate, however they get weak over time and can leak too.
@ModorFix7 ай бұрын
To answer the second part of your question, I am not sure what you mean by "normal" range. However, the main thing I can think of is that the Mach 2 has adjustment on the tension of the spring. This allows the BOV to not open early and hence hold the boost for longer until it really needs to dump
@wishybishy7 ай бұрын
I'm very grateful for your responses! What I meant by "normal" - on the GFB website, they have a "universal" BOV listed for the 300, as well as the MACH 2. So wasn't sure if you knew what the difference was as visually, the look the exact same.
@ModorFix7 ай бұрын
@wishybishy if you filter on 300zx it only shows the mach 2 and the deceptor. To answer your other question, it's a great bov. I have one on the 200sx too. No issues
