WHICH OIL IS BEST FOR THE MAZDA RX7 FD ROTARY WANKEL ENGINE

I always had the urge for a Mazda Rx7, timeless classic with a quirky Rotary engine, who some say is very unreliable. I love a challenge, love the sexy shape of the FD3S Rx7, and this one came up for the right price, but with a long list of jobs that would need doing, some of them which could have cost thousands to repair! We wouldn't be Mod or Fix if we didn't buy it, so here goes.. :)
The car came to me with the wrong oil in the engine, so this had to be addressed pronto!

I've certainly heard RX7 and RX8 owners using 2 stroke oil. In regards to filters, many companies are just selling a "aftermarket" filter with their own brand on it. Mazda are probably one of few left who make their own parts!

Any oil within spec as you change it so regular anyway. I had rx8 and changed oil every 2k

Did you use fully synthetic?

@@ModorFix no. You can’t as it sprays oil direct into the combustion chamber

Fully synthetic doesn’t burn well and it will leave deposits behind and likely knacker the apex seals. I also added about 30ml of 2stroke oil in the fuel tank with half a tank. This helps with the apex seals too

@paulthompson9294 the 2 stroke interestingly is synthetic. But yes, engine oil should not be synthetic
