On off-road designs website, what Lift did you choose when selecting their springs
@Calikov7629 күн бұрын
They are Alcan 47inch long 2inch lift springs. I talked to the owner of ORD on the phone before ordering and that’s what he recommended. He said that is the same spring pack they have on their OBS ultimate adventure truck, that also has a 454.
@78SilverBronco11 күн бұрын
Awesome build! The 47” springs 2” lift springs give it the perfect ride height. Did you move the axle forward 1” or 2” total? Are the WFO frame plates a requirement for strengthening the chassis or does that just help smooth out the frame after removing the IFS brackets?
@Calikov7629 күн бұрын
I’m not sure how forward the center pins were located, I think an inch and a half maybe. The frame plates are not required but make the frame so much better looking! Also easier to mount the shock towers to a flat surface
@78SilverBronco9 күн бұрын
Thanks! I managed to pickup a parts truck with a Snowfighter Dana 60 im going to swap in my Tahoe. I chatted with ORD today. Are you pretty happy with the ride quality over the old IFS?
@Calikov7628 күн бұрын
@@78SilverBronco wow you really found a gem! Those are hard to come by. Yes I am happy its a softer ride. With the narrower 31.5 inch spring pad width you should stick with 47’s. 52’s make for way too much body roll. Even then you might want to think about a sway bar for driving on the street
@78SilverBronco8 күн бұрын
Ya I definitely wasn’t expecting to find that when I got to measuring the axles. I figured it was a 87-91 front end since the 78/79 well dried up years ago. That’s great to hear about the ride. I really like a Cadillac ride and my current setup with TBars cranked rides like crap. Are you also happy with the bilsteins? Are those Dorman shock mounts pretty hearty? I was going to order a set, they look really nice. Good point on the sway bar. I’ll keep any eye. I’ll keep that in mind when building the shock mounts on the axle to ensure I save room for a sway bar. I’m pretty pumped to get things started, it’s crazy how expensive all this gets though.
@Calikov7628 күн бұрын
@ yeah the Bilsteins do the job but I would pick them with a stiffer valving if I did it again. You can look them up by the part number in this video and look at their catalog to see the valving. I don’t have doorman shock mounts I’m using OEM 1986-1997 ford f250 shock towers. They are cheap and beefy from the Ford dealer! Yes it gets expensive fast, wait till you get crossover steering and purchase a custom front driveshaft 😅

Such a cool truck. One of my favorites I keep coming back to watch the videos over again. If you get a chance it would be great to see an update on the truck or better yet see it in action on the trail. Thanks for your work putting these videos together.
@Calikov7629 күн бұрын
It’s hard to film and drive! When I get a cameraman I can certainly make more videos haha. I have been taking it on some more difficult trails like the Backway to Crown King in AZ as well as Boulder Basin to Boulder City ID. Check out my instagram @GMTruck400 to see the pics and short video clips!
@holdenc30828 күн бұрын
@holdenc3082 0 seconds ago Thanks for the reply. Would love to see more video if you get time. I’ve got a 98 Tahoe and am looking at the ORD axle swap. I’ve considered the coilovers from Tahoverlanding, but I keep coming back to just wanting leaf springs for their simplicity and not having a bunch of custom proprietary parts. I have the ORD custom springs in my square body Suburban with a 6” lift, 37s, and 1 tons. They work really well for anything I would use the truck for. Keep it simple.
@Calikov7628 күн бұрын
@ ORD or WFO is the way to go. Not worth the time and money to swap in a Dodge Center-axle Disconnect axle IMO they are weak and have their own problems. The WFO kit uses control arms and a 05+ superduty 60 which is a lot easier to find these days, and will handle better than leaf springs. Just gotta buy expensive coilovers to use their kit though. Depends what your goals are for your rig. If its going to be your daily driver go with links and coilovers for that precise steering and soft ride.

Can you please make a video about how you ran the exhaust and how tou had to re do it
@Calikov7629 күн бұрын
I had South County Muffler in Morgan Hill reroute the exhaust. They did a great job! The driver side down pipe needs to be tight to the oil pan and bell housing in order to clear the front driveshaft

Take your hinge repair kit to a machinist and have the bushings made of steel. One guy did it to his 2000 chevt s10 and its been 2 years and smooth as silk. Im doing mine at the moment. Its a hassle and a lot of running around but Im retired and all I have is time to play with vehicles.😁
@Calikov7623 ай бұрын
Steel on steel will need to be lubricated to keep from wearing. That’s why all bearings/bushings are made from a softer metal with self lubricating properties

My finding over this issue is two things - 1 frame movement/ flexing , 2 change alignment of pitman arm and if u can get high pinions for tops of hub/spindle .. if u have e let's say 2" lift run u a 4" pitman it will have much better steering response. And also make sure the track bar matches the design of pitchman steering shafts

The aftermarket ones don’t always fit, so you may have to file or drill out the hole in the plastic bracket to get the bolt in. I cut off the alignment nubs that were part of the molding to get mine to fit and align right.

Pretty snazzy. It's too bad you only got to Eagle Lakes, those are just easy and moderate trails. I'd be impressed if you went the whole way. Also you have a wonderful Australian shepherd. I'm looking at doing the same swap but not sure if the D44 is up to it. I'd like to do the whole trail.

I’m not sure how impressive crushed rocker panels and doors are… I don’t have rock sliders, and I would probably need a locker and 40+ inch tires to make it over the winch hills. If you use a Dana 44 high pinion off of an F250 you will have the strongest Dana 44 but it still has small shafts and ring gear, I’d trust it on 35’s all day.

So, what would you say it's the best pick of transfer case and differential to do this if you were to do it manual 4x4?
@Calikov762 Жыл бұрын
“Best” haha well everyone had a different opinion. I like doing the least work possible that’s also the most reliable. Keep it simple. Stock 241 transfer case with the floor shift is plenty fine and a driver side high-pinion front axle. I have a 243 which is the electric shift version that came in the truck. I don’t feel the need to replace it because it works just fine. If you want to make things harder for yourself you can get a passenger side drop low pinion axle then you have to get a passenger side drop 241 or a 205 and pay more money for an adapter to clock it so you don’t bind your front driveline up.
@Calikov762 Жыл бұрын
If money wasn’t an object I’d buy a driver drop NP205 and a Off-road Designs Magnum reduction box… with the adapter plates… that would be sweet with a NV4500 in front.
