Jean, we love your videos! My husband and I were so inspired by your Coast to Coast journey: we then did it!! We finished about a month ago, what a fabulous adventure! At some point I'll have the energy/time to upload our videos. Thanks for inspiration/tips, and you'll be amused that I wore a handy vest just like yours, lol! 🌻🦋🦋🦋

That boggy section on Aye Gill Pike was still very boggy a month later when I decided to catch a train to Dent and then walk over AGP to Sedbergh - still with good boots you can keep your feet dry, well you can until one boggy section went over the top of the boot!!

I went up Ingleborough twice last year - June - hot and clear, views for miles, Dec - cold, wet and foggy - you couldn't see the trig from the shelter and the rain was coming in parallel to the ground. Still both walks formed the basis of very different experiences.

What a difference 11mths makes! I walked this path Jun 23 toward the end of last years heatwave. Everything was so dry from start to finish - with the sun behind you all the way, the backs of my legs were heaily tanned whilst the fronts remained white.

Must have been hard going in that heat. I had pretty good weather apart from the first day and even then it was very warm. I found the heat made it harder going especially when climbing Ingleborough and Whernside. It was easier over the Howgills as it was much cooler. Hope you enjoyed the route and didn't suffer from sunburn.

Long way for day 1 was it too long?
@jeanpipes1160
@jeanpipes1160 6 ай бұрын
I found it ok to be honest. Although I covered some mileage, there were no long or difficult ascents or descents. The worse bit was the long, long moor after High Paradise Farm, as it seemed to go on for ages. My feet were aching a bit at the end of the day, but soon recovered. Have you walked the Cleveland Way, or are you planning to?

I had no problems doing it in 7 days and I was 69 at the time. I walked regularly every day prior to doing it, and once a week I would walk 20 miles locally with a fully loaded backpack to prepare myself. (Very flat where I live though, but it prepared me for the distance). I took a few breaks on route too, taking photos and videos and simply just enjoying the views. I also took plenty of snacks to keep my energy levels up. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm sure you will too. Good luck on your walk. please let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your kind comment. I chose to wear boots and also gaiters, and for me that was great as I managed to keep my feet dry, even over the boggy areas. As you will be aware, I was sleeping in a caravan each night so only needed a day pack, which contained lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers, basic first aid kit with blister plasters, (that I didn't need as I wore liner socks under my walking socks). Food and water of course and some loose change as there are several honesty boxes along the route. Sun cream, sunglasses, spare socks and a microfibre towel just in case my feet got wet though didn't need them. I found walking poles very useful too. I took a map but never needed it as I had the route downloaded on my phone. Be aware that the route is not signposted very well in many places, especially in the Lakes. Hope this helps you. It's a great walk and I met some lovely people on route. If you enjoy it half as much as I did, you will love it.

As we are Canadian and not fully vaxed then we regretfully had to cancel. We have now re-booked for September 2024. 4 years older and now in our late 60’s. We have no illusions that it will be easy but your videos have given me both inspiration and encouragement. We will be taking it a bit slower than you, having booked it for 18 days.
