Personifying the elements of nature is unnecessary in holding dear the gifts of this life. As a white man who cherishes this life with its blessings, I view Lyons words as cultural curiosities that, while deeply valued by the members of his people, belie an unbecoming ignorance that persists in drawing forward from the past simplistic dualities like "the invaders from across the ocean," who misunderstood the personifying richness of indigenous spiritual life. After opening in this way, Oren shares some recycled platitudes: the existential crisis jeopardizing future generations by the greed of our white brothers who, driving commerce along amoral pathways, divide our finite resources unequally, heat the planet, and challenge the integrity of our human family with their racist hierarchies. Of course, the Haudenosaunee enjoyed a pre-Columbian Elysium of universal peace and brotherhood. This truth is illustrated well by these words from the Iroquois Constitution: "When the Confederate Council of the Five Nations has for its object the establishment of the Great Peace among the people of an outside nation and that nation refuses to accept the Great Peace, then by such refusal they bring a declaration of war upon themselves from the Five Nations. Then shall the Five Nations seek to establish the Great Peace by a conquest of the rebellious nation." There is often a finer wisdom conveyed in silence than in words. For me, this will always be true of Oren Lyons.

"Indigenous Wisdom Regarding the Future" I have to ask -- where was the wisdom that the Indians could have used a hundred years (or two hundred) ago instead of the failed path they took?

We need the fluoride toxin and other so called health chemicals banned in our water supply. Scientists to stop melting the icecaps to do Petri dish experiments! And also the spraying poisonous chemicals in our air and food and medicine !

Communism does not work - now what? Trust Christ or the UN? Clergy are they opposed or the same? Anyway we can bring back one of the Mandan, Sioux related, practices of using long wooden skewers to be inserted into cuts on our backs, chests and legs and then be hung in the air by ropes and be weighted down with buffalo skulls?

The so called civilised leaders, driven by greed, materialism and wealth,at the cost of our environment, have no clue of the indigineus ways,to be respectful of the earth that sustains life.they mock that which they can't understand.i fear we are too far down the road of self destruction

I am Alaska native "Tlingit" but raised "Haida", but as a people in both we were raised to respect our elders and all. I grew up like you where we had community and helped each other out. When time came to gather out subsistence salmon my family would go catch the fish for everyone , even the ones we did not get along with , we put our difference apart because that was between us and not the community. Anytime one of us " me or my brothers" came back from fishing , or hunting we would first ask our elders if they wanted any and what part if did. After that we kept what we needed and let others know we had some , and come get what they needed. I feel the only way to fix this problem of the world is to lay down out differences as a person and to be the community and help each other out when we see a person strugglig. This is just my thoughts on how I see it. Thank you for your wisdom that you speak in all your videos. Gunalcheesh , Hawaa' " thank you" Tlingit and Haida
