I am Alaska native "Tlingit" but raised "Haida", but as a people in both we were raised to respect our elders and all. I grew up like you where we had community and helped each other out. When time came to gather out subsistence salmon my family would go catch the fish for everyone , even the ones we did not get along with , we put our difference apart because that was between us and not the community. Anytime one of us " me or my brothers" came back from fishing , or hunting we would first ask our elders if they wanted any and what part if did. After that we kept what we needed and let others know we had some , and come get what they needed. I feel the only way to fix this problem of the world is to lay down out differences as a person and to be the community and help each other out when we see a person strugglig. This is just my thoughts on how I see it. Thank you for your wisdom that you speak in all your videos. Gunalcheesh , Hawaa' " thank you" Tlingit and Haida

I'm curious if pantheism would be a better definition for Indigenous spirituality? (It's my understanding that the definition of Animism is not about worshipping animals, but about the belief that all mater is endowed with spirit. Pantheism differs because of the belief that all spirits are connected.) I'm simply trying to understand the difference and if another term is more appropriate.
@PaulaTSizemore3 жыл бұрын
Our beliefs do not fit your definitions. It is about being, not knowing or categorizing. Respect for all life, is recognizing, comprehending the way of our relatives. The ancient prophets said, "even an evil man considers the life of a beast." Biosphere holds all life, ecosystems loving, dependant upon one another. We breathe in what the trees create. The trees receive what we respire out (photosynthesis). We don't worship trees- we understand their purpose. All life has purpose. Genesis says the role of the first man was to "dress, keep" (horticulture) the garden". This has been interpreted as "dominion," right to destroy, disrupt and force the living world to comply with extinction. We live as responsible partners with earth life. Respect, stewardship and relationships. Hope this helps.

@@PaulaTSizemore I do understand the uniqueness of diverse cultures and traditions. At the same time, I need a definition in order to explain it to my colleagues without getting into a theological discussion on spirituality, since that is not the primary topic for consideration in this context. I know the limitations of language, as well as it's necessity in communicating ideas. Thank you for your input.
@danyellerobinson59403 жыл бұрын
@@PaulaTSizemore I do understand that any translation is inadequate. I am most concerned that it be accurate. I think I can do this by citing the broader definitions of Animism and Pantheism, while leaving room for diverse cultures and traditions of Indigenous clans and bands worldwide. Those differences are essential to regional sustainability of homelands.

"Indigenous Wisdom Regarding the Future" I have to ask -- where was the wisdom that the Indians could have used a hundred years (or two hundred) ago instead of the failed path they took?
