Yes its 35th scale which is great for dioramas I suppose as there are plenty of military figures and kits, but it does make for a very big model when its done.
Thank you. It was a big project, but quite good fun. :)

There exist a clear glue product, that when dry its crystal clear. Maybe ad orange ink or food coloring to it before it dries. Or paint of transparent orange paint after it dries. ( krylon fussion might have it if testors doesn't ) If figures are solid a face can be carved with careful skill. [ isn't this why we real modelers live for a challenge? 🤣❤ ] Though at the price gouging of models today, we the customers deserve better figurines!!!
@gonsolop2429Ай бұрын
I didn't list the glue product because I can't recall it's name. The article I recall saying that professional modelers had been using it to fill in small port windows on planes, trains, & boats for decades with amazing success. No more glue smearing tiny plastic windows provided in each kit. The bottle looked to be 2 oz, solid white plastic, tall, with navy or royal blue bold script ( letters ) . Amazon was selling it. I'm not yet an Amazon user. I'll get there someday.

Great video on a crappy kit. The figures are indeed very dissapointing.
@DansModelBenchАй бұрын
Thanks. I've finished the kit now and have to get to the edting, The figures came out ok, but I still do wish they had some more flexability in the poses and a detailed helmet. Overall I am happy with it though.
@gonsolop2429Ай бұрын
@@DansModelBench good deal. Been researching these alpha astronauts. More material availble online now... ebay. The Helmets are basically 70s to 80s drag helmets with a full chin. And have rising visor added by the special effects crew. Such details are actually even better, cutting, fabricating, molding, etc to get them looking more TV realistic. Where there is a will, there's room for varying success. Cheers.

Hi, I know that I am late, but this kit is in principle part of the MPC "Nuclear Waste Disposal Area" (MPC 860) in 1/48. It was added there as somekind as a bonus to all the 1/48 stuff. I ordered my set in January 2022. According to "Scalemates" it had been originally released in 2017. I'm a bit surprised that MPC is offering the 1/24 moonbuggy as a separate kit now. Only difference to my kit is the "engine" for an original Amphicat option.
@DansModelBenchАй бұрын
Ah! That's really interesting to know! So the buggy included in the Disposal Area set wasn't 1/48? I have a feeling this kit might have a longer life than Round 2 and they acquired it from somewhere. Its in a nice car scale, but doesn't match the scale of any of their Eagle kits, which does seem quite strange. Thanks for the update, I had completely forgotten about the Disposal kit. Dan

@DansModelBenchАй бұрын
Hey Vortex. Big fan of the Eagle myself and I have the 22inch Eagle in the stash waiting for its chance to be built. The MPC 22" Eagle is 1:48 but the moon buggy is 1:25 unfortunately. I've actually finished building the moon buggy and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and its not a bad kit. Biggest disappointment is the astronauts not being posable and the one piece helmets. Just have to shoot the final reveal and get the editing done, so that video is coming sometime soon.

Thank you for a fantastic video.. Is there another clear lacquer you could recommend? I couldn't find alclad 2 aqua in a clear gloss coat only in colour tints. Thanks in advance.
@DansModelBench2 ай бұрын
G'day mate. Just to make sure we are talking the same product, the one I used is Alclad ALC-600 Aqua Gloss Clear, which is an acrylic clear. I avoided a lacquer clear as I wasn't sure what they would do to the decals on the lense. I've had trouble with this models brands decals in the past as they can be fragile, so didnt want to use anything hot. Here is a store that has the Aqua Gloss product, so you know what the packaging looks like: www.bnamodelworld.com.au/alclad-alc-600-aqua-gloss-4oz-120ml If you cant get that where you are, AK-Interactive make something similar that they call Intermediate Gauzy Agent Shine Enhancer. Yeah I'm not making that up. :) ak-interactive.com/product/intermediate-gauzy-agent-shine-enhancer/ Another possibility is VMS Varnish HD in gloss finish. Make sure you order gloss as they also have a satin and matte. www.vms-supplies.com/vms-varnish-hd Hope that helps and thanks for the kinds words. Regards, Dan

Hi, did you use 146 B526 Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 Black?
@DansModelBench3 ай бұрын
G'day Paul. I used that product, but not the spray can version. I used an airbrush, so I started with SF288 and thinned it with Mr Color Levelling thinner. With a kit this scale, I cant see why the spray can wouldn't give you a similar result, if thats more convenient for you.

Why did you choose the grill to be silver when the Adam Savage/Peter Jackson prop grill is black? Curious
@DansModelBench4 ай бұрын
Great question. I think there were a number of props used in the film and I'm not sure they were all the same or at least lit the same. The one I was using as my guide was from a still of the HAL 9000 in the main workstation they had. I went with a darker metal colour, that best matched what I could see in the movie still. Of course that colour is influenced by the film processing, lighting etc. It could well be with the bright studio lights and the colour processing of the film, that what we saw on film was a darker grey and not the original prop colour. I've lost count of how many props look totally different in real life in everyday lighting or on video tape (remember that) compared to flim and studio lighting and post processing. Just about anything Star Trek comes to mind from the original movies or the later tv series like TNG, Voyager etc Some of the Star Trek ships look absolutely toy like with their very bright saturated colours, as they have clearly been painted that way to allow for the post processing that was done with them on film or video. Interestingly most kits go with studio accurate colours, which to my eyes, looks very little like what we actually saw on screen in most cases, with a lot of those colours either disappearing or being considerably more mute. Anyway, I made a creative decision to go with what it looks like to my eyes in that scene and not neccessarly how it might look if you were standing next to the prop in normal lighting. I basically do that with anything sci-fi related. There was the added bonus that the darker grey also showed the detail on the grill better. :)

Where do you airbrush? Are you concerned about excess spray landing on other items in the room if you're not using some sort of spray booth?
@DansModelBench8 ай бұрын
I do have a spray booth and normally I would be using it. For this video, since I was spraying only small quantities of paint for the demo, I left it switched off and filmed on my desk where I build. More recent videos you may spy a towel underneath the cutting mat. That is to catch any excess spray from demos like these. Also off camera from what you can see in the more recent videos is a spray booth operating and an exhaust fan for the room. Dan
