I work for Meta at the current biggest data center in the country in Altoona Iowa, and it is incredibly complex. The buildings alone are the size of an aircraft carrier and the power coming in is 161KV and the redundancy is N+1 makes it even more complex. We are building the first big AI super cluster right now. I suspect we are ahead of everyone because Mark already has the H100 chips and the power and the data centers already built.

Is inference compute running a “complied” program? I remember compiling programs and they were smaller and faster. Is this similar to the on board system ? Hard to grasp how all the AI is running on that small on board computer.

Wires and pipes and bags and straps and dials and buttons etc. Starliner must be a Rube Goldberg creation. Dragon however looks like an iPad. 🤦‍♂😄

I promise you I can take it in my area and have an intervention 100% of time on one trip I do at least once a week. The only way it doesn’t go 60 MPH into a business district where speed limit is 30 MPH is there is lead car forcing it to slow down as it never sees the posted 30 MPH speed sign. Obviously you never took your Tesla into rural areas where Teslas has no speed data mapped. It’s totally stupid pass speed limit sometimes it recognizes it and sets speed right. Then pass side road and boom speed resets to some imaginary preset for road type. This could be 45 in posted 30 MPH zone or 40 in a 55 MPH zone. Now you f your using the Auto speed setting the 55 zone usually it will hold the 60, but if your in the 30 zone it quickly starts accelerating requiring a disengagement to keep it at a safe legal speed.

What constitutes an "intervention?" Is it a hesitation on a left turn or an injury crash?
@jacobuserasmus
@jacobuserasmus Күн бұрын
I think there is an important aspect of self driving cars and interventions that are missed here. If an autonomous vehicle can do 13000 miles without an intervention you do not need human operators. The reality is that as human beings we make many mistakes even in a single drive. A self driving car that makes a mistake (intervention is necessary) does not necessarily result in a crash. As drivers we are regularly saved by other drivers noticing something is wrong and saving us from ourselves. Exciting news. I still wanna see the TESLA drive from coast to coast though (Makes the impossible merely late ;-) )

Your solution is far from good but there’s nothing so bad designed than Tesla door handles. You can’t sacrifice the use for the aesthetics or vice versa. That’s is the first law of design. A table simple doesn’t work upside down, simple as that.

My biggest problem with FSD is that I live in a gated community and the car doesn’t recognize the lift gates coming in and going out. Also, there are 3 different lanes to choose from but the members access pass is only supposed to use the extreme right hand lane. Tesla must allow the user to train it to use the correct lane. HELP!

I am cautiously optimistic about FSD. Edge case will get harder and harder to identify and fixed as they get more rare This is actually the most dangerous part of this progression. Since people may relax too much when they have no intervention for weeks and months yet the car can still make mistakes, only rarely Finger crossed by next year intervention will be next to zero

It’s no longer about rare driver interventions. A level 3 autopilot must KNOW 100% when it needs a driver watching (like level 2) vs when it can guarantee a driver isn’t needed. The next step is me watching Netflix without supervising, and the car alerts me when it is about to need supervision for a stretch - and if I don’t respond it pulls over gracefully and legally.

Well the thing is you still have to be constantly vigilant. This is still almost as tiring as taking control and driving yourself. The hidden problem is the system lulling you into a false sense of security, and when it does fail to execute properly you'll be in a worse situation, and more likely to have an accident. Until the system can be so reliable that Tesla is willing to cover at fault accidents involving FSD, it will be a service few will want to use and trust.

_This is still almost as tiring as taking control and driving yourself._ Do you actually *have* FSD? I find driving with FSD engaged is *much more* relaxing than driving myself; because FSD takes care of controlling speed and lane centering, and allows me to pay more attention to what's going on around me. _The hidden problem is the system lulling you into a false sense of security, and when it does fail to execute properly you'll be in a worse situation, and more likely to have an accident._ That's the common anti-FSD theme; but there's no evidence that actually occurs, and huge evidence that it doesn't. If it did, it would be reflected in more accidents and fatalities; but according to NHTSA statistics, injury and fatal accidents in Teslas with FSD engaged are a small fraction of those of average human drivers. _Until the system can be so reliable that Tesla is willing to cover at fault accidents involving FSD, it will be a service few will want to use and trust._ They're willing to do so now, if you'll buy your collision and comprehensive insurance from Tesla, instead of GEICO or State Farm or AAA or USAA, or whomever you're buying it from now. And I doubt that >400,000 Tesla owners have paid up to $15,000 for or subscribed to FSD, if they didn't intend to use and trust it. I paid for it, and I use it probably 95% of the time.
@johnphips9290

@@BigBen621 you're projecting to the extent on my lulling objection because it isn't as reliable as future iterations intend to be. When it gets that good a certain segment of owners will be lulled into complacency or lack of responsibility. Just like some owners of past versions have been. I've found through experience that you can't account for all stupid. As far as Tesla covering all accidents now for at fault fsd failures I see how Microsoft covers "problems" servicing their O.S. issues and I'm not so confident once this expands into 10 of millions of vehicles. I have a background in automation of processes and their maintenance, so failures in the human/machine interaction, implementation isn't foreign to me.

@@BigBen621 your basing future experience on experience with a system that doesn't exist. You're basing many people to have the experience as you have. In many cases that will be true in others it won't be. I'm pretty confident neither of us has the data to fortel just how large the issues we are talking about will be. Though let me give you an example of the possible effect. My family does own Tesla's and despite knowing that the charging infrastructure is fairly robust they adamantly refuse to use their Tesla to drive from state to state. Trust in the new is often hard and that is important when it comes to success of the tech. Example; VHS vs Beta. Look I own Tesla stock I have great hopes for the company but it seems like too many people have unrealistic expectations. Something It took me a long time to learn; Entropy is a thing, and you can speed up, and slow it down, but defeating it is only local.
