Um, the annual rainfall in Seattle is almost EXACTLY the same in Bellingham. Literally no difference. Not sure what you mean those comments, a simple google search (and living here my entire life) will tell you that. Also, both are marine climate. Not sure where this info is coming from. As for the homeless population, if you’re comparing to other west coast cities, maybe you’re right, but the lax “laws” of the past years has seen a significant surge in homelessness and crime… like VERY significant… again, google search.

No one talks about the people. Bought a home in Fairhaven in 2005. Moved in. Hispanic husband stayed to open and clean out the property along with our Keller Williams Real Estate agent who happened to be a traditional long haired Apache from Arizona. The woman across the street from our new home called the police, saying that "two dark guys" were breaking into the house across the street. The police showed up and confronted my husband and our relator. The policeman told them that it was called in by one of our new neighbors. WELCOME TO BELLINGHAM. I accepted a position at the Port of Bellingham. Hung in there for about a year, being run out because I wasn't a Whatcom County inbred. That was the upspoken qualification. Finally got the hell out of there. Far away.

This city is run by Anglo supremacists that don't care about suffering experienced by the poor and needy. It's one of the least generous, least compassionate, and strictest cities in the PNW, reminds me of (Nazi) Germany. Either they are really struggling themselves and poor, or they are classists that have too much time in their hands so they want to keep a tab on the homeless. The discrimination towards certain minorities and to the bottom class are intolerable, ironic, since the town itself has a median salary below the state average. Classism has no place in any city that truly wants to call itself American..

We have the fair and nice downtown. Puyallup is getting very popular. I’d love to go to Bellingham as it’s costal and less populated. If someone would trade me there duplex for mine here lol .

Moved to Blaine, WA that is 25 min from Bellingham 14 months ago. Its been a sh!t show to say the least and our household sticks to ourselves for the most part. If you are going to live out here have a passport to access Canada for higher end shopping and food especially restaurants. My spouse and I were born and raised in Olympia/Lacey area and have tried living in Gig Harbor, Spokane and this was the last try at finding real life...real live people! Not Avatar Bellingham peeps that are proud to be the fake main characters, peacocks or people pleasers.

Born here in '52'. They promised us pink ponies and rainbows galore if we opened the place up to unfettered development. I wouldn't know where to start?! Bottom line is we are heading in the direction of other cities on the West Coast and my perspective is it cannot be stopped. Profit is everything. I bought my house in the late 70's for around $45,000. The county values it at $469,000 now and that's low.

Just helped move my daughter and son in law to Bellingham from Bend Or. We live in northern Ca and they were in Bend 2 years. We loved Bellingham during our 3 days there. If you only saw three homeless people, you were obviously walking/driving around with your eyes shut, they are literally taking over, sleeping in business doorways, panhandling at intersections, knocking on car doors in parking lots asking for money, and taking over the downtown library. Woke Liberals want Bellingham to be just like Seattle, full of crime, drugs and homeless folk and all the filth, they leave behind, to say nothing of doing drugs out in the open on public streets. Taxpayers are stuck wasting money on Police, Fire and Ambulances to attend to those who overdose.Bellingham has changed drastically in the last few years, it is far from being the best place to live, or bring up a family. The natural beauty was once stunning, the building of more houses means less space for wildlife, sadly they are often become victims of traffic accidents. Home Invasions are at an all time high due to drug activity. In hindsight, I would not have moved here, had I known then, what I know now. The Cons have started to over-ride the Pros, that's for sure, and things are getting worse, not better!

There are not many high paying jobs in Bellingham, and housing prices are not affordable. There is already to many people. If more people move here, then it will be like Vancouver Bc, where the advantage home is a million $. Then the homeless will increase along with crime.

I am born and raised in Bellingham. At 23 the population has almost tripled in my life time, the city is unrecognizable from my childhood in most neighborhoods, the city has gentrified and has become expensive. Traffic, parking, and housing is horrific. ive live here my whole life and it's cold, dark, and wet here 9 month out of the year so even if you like the outdoors you better like being wet, cold and using artificial light with it getting Dark at 4 in the winter time. The trails are also always packed full of people now when the weathers nice so there is no peace or privacy. This place would be alright if it wasnt for all the gentrifiers coming here from California, the abused becoming the abusers. The Californians move here because they got gentrified out of cali but then do the samething here and across the country. Its gotten unatanable to live here working a blue collar job as a single male, let alone those with families. If you dont make $100,000 a year, there is no chance of starting a family here. Eastern Washington is slightly more affordable, but there is no hope left for Western Washington.

If you think Bellingham is a nice city to come to its not plain and simple, been here for 6 years now and all the friends I have made have turned away because If you have even the slightest political views or opinion you are to be shunned and out casted amongst the younger generation and the older generation just disagree with you and tell you "you're wrong" even if its just an opinion. This is a cultural thing here, EVERYTHING is political The Homeless Crisis is fueled by the drug epidemic and I've also lost a few friends to heroin and fentanyl and have been exposed to it myself while working in the Hotel industry. Alcoholism is a huge problem which no one talks about, I constantly hear people talking about bars, talking about craft beers, the amount of people I see coming into my store on a daily basis shaking uncontrollably because they haven't had their first sip of the day is too many and they are all within the range of 30-50 years of age. There is nothing to do here other than Bike, Hike, or walk by homeless people/drunks (especially on the weekends) We have a small arcade which also sells alcohol for the parents "spending time with their kids" and the teenagers just needing a place to hang out at besides the mall which is over in the ghetto part of Bellingham. Most of the fun things in Bellingham that were fun to do, were gutted by Covid regulations and never brought back to normalcy. There really isn't much opportunity besides going to college or a trade school. So tell me again how great this city is cause I can keep going about my discrepancies', either way I'm moving back down south asap cause this is horseshit.

Its a Beautiful College Towne & the college is: Western Washington University. There's lots of Art & Culture ...Natural Beauty & Extreeemly-friendly People 【especially, where I live, in the South Hill ...& below, in the Fairhaven District】! I've lived all over the US ...& it's almost disturbing, how polite & the Citizenry is here! Milder winters in Bellingham than Seattle? Actually, it's warmer in Seattle. In Bellingham, it snows, and it freezes with strong wind coming off the bay. It's also cooler in the summer and windy because of the bay. Have you actually lived in Bellingham? I lived in Bellingham for four years in the 1980s and then again 2011 to 2018. And I lived in Seattle for 21 years.

I moved off east of I-5 off 236 exit, an past the speedway! I can relate too snow an rain with pictures of 2ft snow on roof. My best memories of area was on Skagit River in my 22ft aluminum jet boat. Even with V-8 an really heavy boat, salmon school so thick, not enough water in river, where fish actually lifted my boat out of the water, bouncing it like a toy! (Note: Skagit water level was above average, just too many fish in school. Making river shake like a dragon passing underwater!?)

What I think people don't understand - homelessness is a huge problem literally everywhere in the US right now. You'll have a hard time going anywhere with a population over 15k where that's not the case currently. So instead of treating it like it's a nuisance, maybe try remembering that this is a growing population of real human beings who need help. And maybe participate in work/activism/volunteering that might make a difference in your community. Actually, a lot of these complaints are just general current US complaints, which is totally fair and valid but acting like it's contained to one singular area and that "stop moving here!" is an actual fix is a bit naive.

@"Lots of diversity"? LOL Latest U.S. Census demographics are 81.9% White, 9.5% Hispanic (47.6% of which are White Hispanic), 1.3% Black, 5.7% Asian, and 0.9% Native American. Percentage of residents with a bachelor's degree or higher: 46.4%. Median household income: $65,420. 60.4% of registered voters went for Joe Biden in 2020. Bellingham has as much diversity as your men's underwear section at Target. There are a few color items here and there, but it's mostly white. Nothing exciting but nothing disappointing either. Bellingham is much more educated, slightly whiter and slightly richer than the national average and according anecdotal reports, it's also much more gay -friendly than average. This sounds like another small town where you're going to find lots of liberal white hipsters trying to be creative, outdoorsy and fake libertarians. Think of it as a more quiet version of Seattle without the zine-writing weridos flowing in from Portland, OR. If you are a steeply conservative person from rural part of the South, this town is unlikely to be your cup of tea. They will try to get you to drink organic kombucha instead.

Now that wildfires rage for 3+ months every summer, it means the easy-going outdoor activities during the best weather are gone. Yeah you can go outside with a mask and have your eyes burn. As the years go on the PNW will be more of a season housing location rather than year-round, unless you don't mind not going outside for 3-6 months in the summer/fall every year.
