I ran across several Mitchell reels in the last couple of weeks in estate and garage sales. They were in great condition and were dirt cheap.

Something I noticed when I used it for the video was how all the action is in the last 2 feet of the tip section, which I don't remember when I had one of these rods as a teenager. I do remember losing more fish than I caught and I probably bumped them off with inexperience, oh well!

I try to fined the quiet places, but there's sometimes a fly in the ointment! One of the great things about Mitchell reels is that you can have some bits missing and they still work a treat.

Your videos bring back time for me. I still have my original Mitchell 300(france) with the rod that I bought in 1964. The reel is in good working order along with the other Mitchell reels I've collected over the years. There's something very special about the Mitchell reels and not just there popularity. I look back at my early days of fishing and I'm fortunate to have terrific memories catching fish with that M 300. Today, reels have evolved and are built differently, I suppose, but my Mitchell 300 was built to last a lifetime. That in itself tells a story. 🧐🌲👍

Yes very true. Mitchell reels just keep going and will still be being used long after the modern tackle has broken and been disposed of.

Nice fish played skilfully on light tackle! I love the retro stuff, i haven't quite got around to stumping up for a cane rod yet but ive bought 2 ancient faulty centre pins and repaired them. I use one with 8lb line for tench, carp, barbel etc and one with 3.5lb for silvers and perch. Good luck with your channel, lots of competition nowadays! Subbed👍
