I love my Mitchell reels ,I went on ebay to buy a spare and ended up with over 60 . I have modles from 300 to 840 match and I always carry 4 in my box I usually fish with a centrepin now.

All my reels are over thirty years old. The spinning reels are all Mitchell's, a 307, 308, 497 and 499. The 499 came with a miscast foot so I replaced foot and housing to correct the problem. The 307 is used with a 9' K-mart 2-piece jetty rod of medium action and a one piece 7' Garcia rod of medium/fast action for boat fishing. The tackle is usually about 2 oz. - 2 1/2 oz. I also have a 10' surf casting rod and a 13' surf rod one piece that proved to be too heavy for casting and carrying so I shortened it to 11' and two piece. I also have an Ugly Stick baitcaster with a Penn 109 level wind ( a Christmas present from Dad in the late 50's ) that I still use today with a wooden plug (no hooks) to exercise my dachshund. She looks for the line and runs to cover the retrieve. I have caught 17 x 5-6# bluefish on one boating trip with the boss and office gang. They raided my tackle box and lost most of the surface lures due to ignorance. Still replacing as I can.

I own six 301 and I love em. I grew up on a lake and over the years I’ve seen the decline in quality. So I decided to look for an old reel and I discovered the garcia Michelle 301 and it’s the best reel in my opinion ever made. You can catfish, bass fish, bream fish and white Pearce fish with it. Best reel hands down. Today’s crap is junk including the poles. So I fish with nothing but vintage poles and reels
