My very, very favorite George Michael song. Deep. Poetic. As famous as he was, he garnered only a fraction of the recognition he earned by virtue of his many talents. He sings to us of a double life, neither of which wholly claims his soul, his essence. He admits to his addiction to adulation and money, but tells us that is hollow - that is not enough for his soaring soul. He knows that addiction is not a source of salvation. I love this man. I pray we meet in The Hereafter, for that will mean we were both saved in spite of ourselves.

Filmed in Birmingham Broad Street at the start of the 80s, in front of Baskerville House, using a fountain which has now been replaced by Centenary Square. And the roof of ATV Studios which used to stand opposite, where Tiswas was recorded.

It's hard for me to pinpoint why, but I believe this song is incredibly difficult to sing live. Maybe because of the constant repetition of the beat. But it sounds amazing live!
