Bob can you help me out please, i was driving on the highway & i put it in sport floored it when the drive train malfunction came on with a lot of shaking from the engine i immediately thought misfire but when i parked turned it off/on & did not come back i still floored it & it felt like normal

Thats the problem, it could be anything,u can't go straight to the cause. I replaced all plugs,all coil packs all 6 injectors this bmw will not run correctly its the Devil

Lol. Did your read the OBD II codes? Sometimes the codes just shrink the search area.

Great DYI video however I replaced it on my G31 2018 Touring and now the top active grill flaps are working the other way around, closed when driving and open when parked/ignition off. Any way to reset this behaviour to default? One note to make is that when I disconnected the old motor actuator the flaps went to closed position and wouldn't let me twist them to open. Any help/guidance greatly appreciated. Tnx

Steer away from the shops if they say they can't read the codes. Most good shops have professional scanners that can read multiple manufactors.

Hello, nice video, thanks for sharing! One thing occurred me, you drained 6 l out and filled 6,8 l up. It means that you had an oil shortage all the time before the exchange? As you said the DCT is very sensitive of oil level then this situation could have cause some issue? What is your opinion? Thanks

I attributed 0,3-0,5 liters to the heavy soaked filters I pulled out. Even for the DCT's there is a tolerance for fluid. I'm guessing that +/- 0.5 liters of completely full level won't cause issues. I think by doing the ISTA adaptation, the levels allowed for a little more accuracy. If you want to see what difference 0.5l makes, with the pan off, put some fluid in the pan (level surface), note where the level is, then add 0.5l. You'll barely see a rise in level as the pan is so spread out.

@@bobmac1970 Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I don't have ISTA, I will have to operate very exactly with the oil amount. Only chance for me is to fill the same amount as is drained out. There is another problem concerning the lines and the front oil cooler. Why didnt you disconnect the lines in the front and didnt let all the oil drained? Thanks

@@richardbielicky3603 You can definately get a few extra mL's out by also draining the cooler. When you are done, and think you have the level right, cycle thru D and R, then re-check. That may allow a little extra fluid.

@@bobmac1970 thanks for your reply, I have never exchanged the DCT oil yet but my expectation is about 1,5 l. I speak about M4 (F82) which has the same DCT and similar oil circuit like your M5. I have a different doubt, If I open the hoses some air gets inside and I dont know if the DCT itself is able to press the air out. If not then it can cause some future problems in DCT operation. Do you have any experience with this situation? Thanks Richard

@@richardbielicky3603 I hope you're talking about 1.5 l from the cooler. Don't worry about air. The transmission will push the fluid thru. I hope you are doing this on a lift...without, I would not recommend, as you'll be checking the level while the car is running. I'm not sure how tight the clearance for the side filter is on the F82.

I’ve got code 21b045 loss of comm’s with lower actuator as a permanent code. However I don’t have lower air flaps? And my upper kidney grill air flaps are working fine?? I’m replacing the actuator in any case to see if the error goes away.

Hey bob so mine only happens when i reverse the car, it turns to neutral and i can't reverse. What could be the cause? I was told its the transmission and told to change it, but I'm getting more opinions before changing

It does sound like a transmission issue. The shop should read out what transmission codes they are getting. It could be something as relatively simple as a stuck or non-functioning solenoid. Good choice to get a second opinion!

Nice. I know a person, a friend of mine, who bought a brand new 1994 Chrysler Concorde in 1994. It was a very nice car, very similar to this one, and he loved it. It had that strong 3.5 V6 too. By the way, too bad you didn't cranck up the engine in this video.

When the led lights reach the 8th or 9th position, the battery has been fully conditioned, as is good to go. This can take a few days depending on how depleted the battery is.

Should be the same process. Best bet is to look at the wiring diagram to see if the US model has the wires in the harness or not.

Hey Bob, what an insightful video you’ve made! Just checked on my datalog that the knock is 0 when throttle angle is on 99%. Other than that, what else should I be cautious of? Btw, my G20 320i has flashed to Stage 2 91 octane (AGG) with OTS configuration.

If you have zero knock you should be able to enjoy the tune worry free :) Just make sure to always get the matching or higher fuel.

Simple as that, it was def an accident that wasn’t insured, probably a stolen vehicle taken to a “takeover” and lightly damaged and abandoned but not totaled. Some dealership saw it, had the parts or funds to dump into it and then try to resell like it’s never been in an accident 😢, what a shame to disgrace a beast of a machine. People need to have more respect for these machines.

That code just came on for me after adding more oil to my car. Is the drivetrain light likely to come on from adding oil or too much oil?

Check your oil level thru the idrive while the engine is idling. If you overfilled, do NOT continue driving. Drain some until you are at a correct level....difficult since there is no dipstick.

I've found that with quality correct octane fuel, it's not necessary to vere off, unless major stuff has been done...ie bigger turbo, injectors etc

I work in the parts department at bmw and I had to tell ppl the hood can’t be open even tho they just want to top off the wiper fluid

That's too bad. Mine had a ton of leaves and debri at the windshield drains. Only way to get that is opening the hood. Strange side note...i4 M50 has the same stuff in the front, but no restriction on opening the hood. Don't quite understand why BMW went this route.
