Interesting theory. I think we are low on vitamin D and melatonin. As we get older (I’m 67) our skin is much dryer, and it is the oil in the skin reacting with the sunlight that makes D3. Probably one reason why older people’s immunity is lower. I agree that there are many benefits to sunlight besides vitamin D production. There was a small study done in a hospital in Brazil durning the Covid pandemic where Covid patients wore vests that either gave off red light or wore vests that did nothing. No one was told which was which, so double-blind. The one’s who got the red light reduced their hospital stay by 8 days. At least supplemental vitamin D is very inexpensive compared to prescription drugs. I also supplement with melatonin.

People are so brainwashed about VD, that they look at you like you are crazy when you try and tell them to just go out without sunglasses and build their solar callus so that they have enough in the winter.

This does make sense. Does cold exposure help with melatonin production? Or is the cold for mitochondria mainly? Thx

Thanks Carrie, this is a great, easy to understand summary. I have been following circadian principles for awhile but this is video is great for sending on to family, friends for them to be able to understand the real world implications of blue light. Will probably send to teachers at my kids' school as well. One suggestion/request :), I would love to see additional information on how chronic blue light exposure during the day (from screens, from overhead lights, etc) is damaging as well. Again, mostly because I would like to send info on to my kids' school so they can see how improvements to the light environment at school (during daylight hours when kids are in attendance) can positively impact students.

Everything you're saying makes perfect sense and seems logical. However, a couple summers ago when my D3 was low, we built a little beach on the lake on our property. I took my 3 kids out there nearly every single day for grounding and sunshine without sunscreen for a couple hours. I wasn't taking D3 supplements. At the end of summer in mid August, I had my D tested and it was still low (24) and in fact one point lower than before! I was shocked. I'm not convinced we can easily get enough vitamin D from the sun only in this modern life. I don't know why, but it certainly did nothing for me. :( (Important to know, we eat a whole food diet, no rx meds, I don't wear sunglasses, I prioritize sleep and our location is Southern Indiana.)

Thank you so much, Carrie, for such important information that I have not heard elucidated this way elsewhere. Fascinating new info to me about this receptor's connection to melatonin!! Renaming it makes everything make sense. Here is a slightly different question.... where would you recommend someone start if they have a totally reversed circadian rhythm, i.e. the tendency that is somewhat common in the population of people with severe neuroimmune, chronic illness -- basically, being awake all night until sunrise or later. I am aware the principles that you teach... and making a big leap or change in my schedule has failed for me many times when I have tried in different ways, because it always involves some pushing and stress that I don't seem to handle. Have you had people in your teaching groups with this type of severe circadian dysregulation who have been able to make incremental or gentle change? Thank you, grateful for your work!!

What about the fact glucogenesis breaks down muscle and thymus tissue? Ketosis also down regulates thyroid function and increases stress hormones so how would that be beneficial in any way? Also, what is your take on Dr Ray Peats studies that darkness and cold are highly stressful and more people die and develop metabolic disease in winter and in northern latitudes? Why do we want to go back to scarcity and force our body into emergency backup systems?

This was very interesting perspective. What you are saying I can see anecdotally in myself and some of my personal training clients. I even realized that the body part that is involved in a traumatic event, even if it isn't damaged, is the one that basically takes the brunt of distorted tissue effects. For example, you receive terrible news over the phone, that hand you were holding the phone with or that side of your face can store that shock energy. I too am a firm believer in the use of foam rolling. Now I know another aspect of why it is so effective.

It’s been a game changer for me regarding psoriasis. I believe mine is histamine related and when I started following the sun, ditched nighttime blue light and drink good water with salt my skin has turned around. My body was about 80% covered now I just have some patches on my trunk and back of neck. We’ll see how I do this winter but I’m going to eat seasonally with a lot of fish and see how it goes.

This is too complicated to answer in a YT comment. But my first line of encouragement is never a supplement. Do the foundations first, including morning light, and see if that improves your melatonin without a supplement. There are also two kinds of melatonin: subcellular and pineal. Again, too complicated to discuss here, but I recommend you come join my online community: www.carriebwellness.com/offers/LQXCiKFP/checkout

Therefore water fasting is all you need for a time...or perhaps even for ALL time??? Jesus fasted 40 days...as have others..
@carriebwellness
@carriebwellness 8 күн бұрын
This is too complicated to address over a comment. Fasting, yes. How and when? It truly depends. As an example, someone who's in a low-leptin state shouldn't do extended fasting until they've improved leptin. Jesus also walked in leather sandals, in sunlight, and ate all local food, etc. He wasn't already in a stressed/unhealthy state like many of modern humans. Context matters, so you can't always tell everyone to fast for 40 days and not have varying consequences and results.

Outside for natural light (windows block infrared light) to still get those proper red and infrared signals, and some UV breaks where you get out of the shade and into the sun. And be grounded, feet in the dirt/grass. And then as Carrie mentioned, blue blocking apps and/or glasses in the evening.

Yep! Great suggestions from Noah. I have a whole list on my site at the link I'll provide here (around how to mitigate blue light). Never do too much at once-it's a good way to keep you from healing and overwhelming your nervous system anyway! Do something that feels manageable now and add on as you have capacity. Also, this is partially why I offer all of my courses in downloadable audio format so you can even listen "offline" in Airplane mode to avoid more nnEMFs. But again, just do what you're able to! As I always say, "consistent is better than perfect."
