Where are you? I need some inspiration and guidance while in trying to choose my first assignment

Hoping to lock down a travel assignment in the Fall. Been a tech for 7 years. 1 year in x-ray, 5.5 years in Vascular IR, now I’ve been doing CT for 5 months. Planning to take the CT registry in July.

If you don't mind asking about how much an is per week as travel CT/RT?
@adventuresofaradtech8399 Жыл бұрын
@bryantaragon2922 good question. Rates vary depending on contract. I’ve seen everywhere from 1900/week to 34-3500/wk and sometimes more. Keep in mind that these weekly rates may include housing stipend built in so always be sure to figure out the cost of housing in the area prior to signing a contract.

Is radiology tech school hard?
@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@Bryant Aragon short answer, yes. But you can do it! And I don’t say that to discourage, I say it that way to help anyone thinking X-ray school is a cakewalk to be prepared. The coursework is serious and practical. Everything learned is expected to be immediately applied in clinic. Some schools have a strict policy on grades. The school I went to would place a student on academic probation for failing just one midterm.. mess up on a final and you would be in jeopardy of losing your spot in the school. I’ll be sure to elaborate on this topic in a future post.

Hey! First off thanks for the video. I have been in the medical field as a medical assistant for 7 years. I’m looking to break into the rad tech side as soon as possible because I want to travel doing this job. I wanted to ask, What would be the quickest way possible to get a job in the rad tech field(I’m assuming maybe a certificate program but not sure)? 2. Is this a job that has a lot of opening/ opportunity for traveling( would hate to do the schooling and find out I can’t get a job anywhere)?
@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@Ace thanks for checking out the channel, be sure to like and subscribe! The best way to officially join the X-ray Gang is to definitely find a great program in your area. One that already has an affiliation with a local hospital where you can get clinical done. Also, check the program registry pass rate 🔑 cause that registry ain’t no joke. But with proper preparation you’ll be more than ready. Plan for about 2 years of dedication just to X-ray- CT/ MRI with require more studying and another cert. Best wishes to you in all your endeavors- I will say that if you want to travel then you’ve got all the motivation to handle all the challenges X-ray school will bring 💪🏾

Is it realistic for a single man to work a 12+ week travel contract as x-ray/ct and take time off and do some vacation before doing their next contract?
@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@Chris W oh ABSOLUTELY. It’s one of the many flexes I love about travel. In between contracts I may book a vacations or just regroup back in my home state. During that time however I still keep my ears to the street, stay in contact with my recruiter/agency and book my next assignment when I’m ready. Im going to school to become an MRI tech and the pay for travel work is very tempting. I have a 9month old and my partner is a barber so he has a very flexible schedule, I wonder if it’s recommendable for me to look into travel work. I live in Ca, I’m willing to travel in state so I can be close to baby.
@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@@michellemmm4028 it sounds like a really good option! As I said, with a good support system for childcare in place, goals set and timelines understood I think it’s do-able. I really want to do this for Ct especially with that 9k+ a month pay. I do have a family and children and have a goal to pay off my vehicle and home within 5 years. It’s very doable but I’d like some thoughts or responses on how folks have done it.
@dpaper79622 жыл бұрын
I’ve been traveling as a CRCST for 5 years and I am a mother, a wife, and full time student. I can tell you that you truly have to have a support system if your children will not be traveling with you. As a mother who is away from her child/ren, be ready for ppl to talk down on you for “leaving your child/children” behind. At the end of the day, those ppl are not paying your bills nor taking care of your children so ignore what ppl got to say because most of the time they wish they can be you making money and have an awesome support system. Good luck with the travels!

@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@Tonya Williams for a first time traveler I would say be brave… don’t be too worried about where that first assignment takes you (unless it’s like Anchorage Alaska lol). Trust your skills and know that CT is CT everywhere you go. Know what you know*. Pack light, you will accumulate things - ship stuff home at the end of the contract cause airlines be charging for overweight bags- facts. But most importantly like and subscribe to this channel for all the travel info. Best wishes and much success to you in your travels. I have a question do u get tracing in every location you go to or they expect you to know everything
@adventuresofaradtech83992 жыл бұрын
@Irina Khlopov my bad on the delayed response but I was trying to understand your question when I realized that you probably meant to write "training" instead of "tracing" - its all good though. To answer your question, yes they will train you at each location, but only minimal or enough to know your way around the department. And yes they expect you to know everything lol I mean you should definitely know your routine exams. The more experienced you are the better. As a travel professional I kind of think of myself as a hitman for hire- somebody who can come in and get busy right away. It shouldn't take me too long to adjust to their style of work or department flow- honestly your lucky if they give you two weeks of on site "training" or department orientation. Never expect the hospital that you show up at to TEACH you how to scan- if you pick up some skills there and some techs are good enough to show you some things then awesome, add it to your toolbelt- but never expect anyone to teach you how to scan. I go into this topic more in an upcoming post. Be sure to like and subscribe!

Hey @Nicolette thx for checking out the channel! I get this question a lot, and it’s really tough to answer because contracts vary ie.
