@Irina Khlopov my bad on the delayed response but I was trying to understand your question when I realized that you probably meant to write "training" instead of "tracing" - its all good though. To answer your question, yes they will train you at each location, but only minimal or enough to know your way around the department. And yes they expect you to know everything lol I mean you should definitely know your routine exams. The more experienced you are the better. As a travel professional I kind of think of myself as a hitman for hire- somebody who can come in and get busy right away. It shouldn't take me too long to adjust to their style of work or department flow- honestly your lucky if they give you two weeks of on site "training" or department orientation. Never expect the hospital that you show up at to TEACH you how to scan- if you pick up some skills there and some techs are good enough to show you some things then awesome, add it to your toolbelt- but never expect anyone to teach you how to scan. I go into this topic more in an upcoming post. Be sure to like and subscribe!

Would you recommend a travel position for someone fresh out of xray school? Also, is it possible to cross train in CT or MRI while you're on a travel assignment (so you can expand your skills and take a higher paying assignment)? Thanks man! Subscribed.

Hey @Henry Gobblesag, I would say get at least a year of experience out of school before considering travel. Honestly I remember calling my travel company right after I graduated and they had to let me down easy lol you're going to need some experience in the field because when you show up to an assignment they expect you to hit the ground running in a very short space of time- some places may give you a week..I've been to places where they expected me to be up to par with everything they do in two days 🤷🏾‍♂️ as far as cross training goes, it's rare but not impossible to do while on an assignment. Also from what I understand many hospitals are shying away from cross training. This is leading to people having to go through a school program to get certified. Once traveling though, let your recruiter know about wanting to be at a facility that may be able to allow you to pick up some experience in another modality while on assignment and see if the hospital will go for it. These types of requests are usually good to ask when re-negotiating for an extention imo. But for the most part, they just want you there to fulfill the role they need- not train you. Thanks for the subscription add and I'll be sure to touch on this topic in an upcoming video! #XrayGangGang #adventuresofaradtech

Hey @Nicolette thx for checking out the channel! I get this question a lot, and it’s really tough to answer because contracts vary ie. Strike contracts etc. When I tell people a realistic base pay expectation, they say “that’s it? I thought travelers were making good money!?”.. but when I inform them that a super high hourly rate may get them in some tax hot water if they’re not careful they hesitate with fear and no longer want to travel. Check out my article I wrote a few years back via linked in and I think you’ll find out exactly what I mean.
