Thank you Wayne. I am doing a lithium conversion on a 2003 Club Car DS that is a Series with an A frame. It has the three wire harness with red, yellow and brown. When I searched for DS lithium conversion everyone talked about a six wire harness and having to cut and rerout the blue. So your video while not focused on the lithium conversion helped me a ton and gave me the confidence to snip the wire. I rerouted it to neg post on battery but after tracing the main neg back to source it’s only a few inches away from the place where I cut it. This made my lithium conversion so much easier. Since I’m went to lithium which wires do I cut to remove the OBC? Thanks again!
@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart49007 күн бұрын
Since you already rerouted the main black receptacle wire , and the skinny yellow wire, you can now remove any wires still on the obc in order to remove it.

Everything works on my deluxe kit for a 2018 Precedent except the brake lights. I have the proper wiring to the Timer relay, but I have not hooked up the little black relay in the dash. The kit comes with a relay but no instructions where to hook it up. (It’s the same relay that you used in your video about voltage reducers as you install a light kit. It looks the same anyway.) Where do I hook up this relay?

@ I finally got it working. I did hook up my relay in the dash. I also did not have my ground on the proper battery, it was not on the main negative under the driver seat. I would posit the relay is unnecessary for just headlight and taillights. They draw a combined 2 amps at 12 volts, about 1/2 an amp at 50 volts on the hot side of the reducer (buck) unit.
@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900Ай бұрын
The reason for the relay, was to act as a trigger to turn the power on and off to the reducer, so the reducer is not always drawing current, even when the cart is not being used. Now I have reducers that have a trigger wire, so you would no longer need the relay set up.
@GratefulwonАй бұрын
@ My point is, the draw of the reducer and it’s associated load (assuming just a light kit) is well within the capability of the key switch. You are adding complexity where it does not have to exist. The total load of light system is less than half an amp, and the key switch is rated for 5 or 10 amps. The relay is not needed.

@Gratefulwon Then don't use one.

Wayne I appreciate your video. I plan to do a lithium battery install on my 2007 Club Car DS. I can't understand why you would run the black ground wire from the battery ground to an old charging receptacle that will no longer be used. Can you help? You also mentioned running the black wire that you cut from the OBC to the controller from the controller to the ground on the battery but I never heard anymore about that in your video.
@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart49002 ай бұрын
If you are going to use a new lithium charger, you do not need to rewire the existing cart receptacle.
@geraldmccracken3369Ай бұрын
Thanks! I'm trying to learn everything I can. I have a 2007 Club Car DS. I watched another video of a lithium ion battery installation on a 2007 Club Car DS where they left the OBC in place and bypassed it which is what I am going to do. He did cut the black and grey wire at the charging connector and he did splice the blue and white wire from the Controller. But he only cut the black wire from the OBC to the Controller and capped both ends. I have not started on my cart but I'm curious about his ground wire. I need to see if my ground comes through the OBC. I don't understand why he cut it if it does because it doesn't appear to connect to the OBC in anyway but just runs through it for some odd reason. Please correct me if I am wrong. In the other video I never saw a mention of putting a new negative wire to the battery.
@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900Ай бұрын
@geraldmccracken3369 it doesn't matter if you remove the obc or if you leave it , as long as you splice the blue and white wires, and if installing lithium batteries then you do not have to reroute the charger wire. On Older carts, the solenoid got it's negative from a wire coming from the controller, not so in newer carts. Some carts had a wire run straight to the obc , from the controller, and some ran that negative wire thru a connector first. Maybe your guy didn't want that connector in the run .

But if you are deleting the OBC classic charge port for a lithium conversion, there is no need to run the 10 gauge black wire to the negative terminal? My thinking correct? Because the black wire will be done completely? The only time you’ll need to run the black 10 gauge to the ground is if you plan to continue using the classic charger with lead acid but need to bypass the OBC?

If you have replaced all the parts that you say you did, i don't see how it won't run ? Do a bypass on your obc, and see if that helps, do that next. When you say click, are you referring to the solenoid or the potentiometer? If it's the solenoid, I would also try bypassing the solenoid temporarily.

I have a 2013 Precedent. Installed a 48v lithium battery, trying to ensure I don’t screw up the OBC disconnect. My new battery pack obviously uses the new on board charger and I want to remove the old socket and replace with one I can plug an extension cord into where the charger plug just plugs into the backside for that clear look. If I don’t hook up the red hot to the battery, cut the grey I am not clear what to do with the black. Do I have to leave the OBC hooked up or will that prevent the cart from working. I heard you say we could splice the blue and white together but need to make sure I am not screwing up before I start cutting factory harnesses! Great video!

@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart49003 ай бұрын
The loudness is probably the charger getting old. The noise is not a bad thing other than displeasing to hear. If the breaker keeps tripping, it could be a few things, weak breaker, bad parr such as the rectifier or heatsink, even a problem with the cart, so you need to first be able to eliminate the cart and batteries, then start testing each part in the charger. I show how to do this in a video.
