I have a 2013 Precedent. Installed a 48v lithium battery, trying to ensure I don’t screw up the OBC disconnect. My new battery pack obviously uses the new on board charger and I want to remove the old socket and replace with one I can plug an extension cord into where the charger plug just plugs into the backside for that clear look. If I don’t hook up the red hot to the battery, cut the grey I am not clear what to do with the black. Do I have to leave the OBC hooked up or will that prevent the cart from working. I heard you say we could splice the blue and white together but need to make sure I am not screwing up before I start cutting factory harnesses! Great video!

Hi Wayne. Yes, it was my understanding that my MOD Z charger would work with either a OBC or with one that has been bypassed. Since I just tried the charger before cutting wires to bypass and found that while the amber low charge light sometimes blinks and sometimes stops, the charge across the battery pack does charge up to 55volts with about 8.9 across each battery. So, something is working, but I may still do the bypass if running the cart a lot causes problems. Thanks again for sharing your time and knowledge of how these systems work. Oh, I do know that my old charger did start at 15 amps and dropped to 10a and on down to 2 amps before shutting off. I have not tried to run my new charger all the way to shut off.

I talked to the modz people today. They assured me that it would work without doing a bypass.👍 So I ordered 1 so I can do some testing of it on my own.

Could be the wrong batteries, could be 1 or more bad batteries, could be charger, obc, charge receptacle, receptacle red charge wire, dead wall outlet, you need to narrow it down some. Howdy Wayne! Great video and thanks. A quick question, do you have to bypass and eliminate the OBC when using a smart charger? I am wondering if I can just run a #10 wire from the outbound Neg on the charge receptacle and connect it to the Neg on the #6 battery and be done. This would leave all of the OBC wiring in tact in case a future buyer wanted to replace the bad OBC. Thanks, Lkh

The problem I'm running into is the yellow wire coming from the solenoid is going to the plug that went to the OBC, its a 3 wire plug. Yellow, Red, Black. Do I need to do anything with those other wires? The old charger is also still connected to the solenoid still so I'm trying to figure how to get rid of that and if wire the new battery in. Haven't found much content on the internet showing these older club cars being modified with the newer style lithium batteries. Any helps and tips appreciated, love all the other videos!

So what I found is on the club car president once you splice the two black wires and do the blue and white wires. The old charger will not work that small grey wire must be hook to Voltage because that controls the 48v relay in the charger. I thought by doing the bypass I would be able to still charge with the old charger until my new ocb came in. But I don’t know what side to hook that small grey wire up to coming out of the charger receptacle that’s in the golf car. It’s the grey wire that has the spade connector on it that plugs in back of the OCB

If you DO NOT have a white wire and also a blue wire at your obc connector, then you do nothing about joining any wires. yes on black wire. The gray you can just cut off, you wont be using it. The only time you need to mess with a yellow wire, is if you have a skinny yellow wire going to your solonoid. If you do have that skinny yellow wire then you need to reach you need to reroute that so it goes from the main battery pack negative to the solenoid don't worry about it if you don't have that skinny wire. As far as the bypass, it sounds like you didn't do it right. The black # 10 wire needs to run from the carts charge receptacle to the main negative on the batteries. If no skinny yellow on solenoid, then forget about that wire. You touch no wires going to the mcor. If you spliced the blue to the white, at the obc, on the controller side of that gray connector, then the only other thing to do is route the black wire from back of charge receptacle to the main battery pack negative. All that should do it, nothing else. If after doing that, your cart don't run, it's either the batteries or the mcor.

Wayne....this was a GREAT video. So, first off......THANKS! Here is my situation. I have a 1999 Club Car 48V DS. I recently replaced the 6 batteries with a singe LiPo4Fe suitcase battery that I had built. As for the charger, I have a smart charger that charges the battery directly and I do not even use the old charging receptacle in the cart. Currently, the negative cable passes from the negative terminal on the battery....through the OBC....and attaches to the controller. However, I am looking to upgrade my controller, solenoid, F&R Switch and use all 2 gauge wires. I know that I can use a metal bolt to pass through the OBC since the 2g cables are too thick....but my question is....do I still need the OBC? Is it something that I have to have to keep the cart running? Or can I remove it? Thanks in Advance.

So, when I look at my OBC, I have 6 wires that come out of it (and the hole for the negative battery passthrough). Here are the 6 wires... Wires 1 & 2: 1.) Thick black wire in your video that goes to the Charging Plug. 2.) Grey wire that is in your video that shuts off the Charger. Wire 3: 3.) There is another thick black wire that attaches to the B- on the Controller just like the Cable from the battery that passes thru the OBC. Then, out of the OBC, there are 3 more wires that attach to a 3 prong plug: 4.) Red 5.) Yellow 6.) Brown If I remove the OBC completely, what do I do with the Red, Yellow and Brown wires? Just unplug it, rip out the OBC and be done? Or do I need to do something with those 3 wires that are on the the other end of the plug that is connected to the OBC? Thanks again in advance. I just need to be clear with what I need to do so I do not mess it up. :) And I would love to get rid of the OBC. One less thing to break.... If you need pictures or want to FaceTime/video chat.....I am game! Just let me know! Thanks! John

John, if you are asking how to bypass, : as shown in video, cut the gray wire off, don't need it. Reroute the #10 black from charge receptacle to main pack negative. Reroute that yellow wire over to pack negative or to controller B-. cap off red wire.Dont need to do anything else except get a different charger.

Hi My DS does not have a small yellow wire on the selonoid. It does has the large yellow wire (negative) that goes up to the motor controller. The selenoid has lots of other wires attatched to it. Most from the forward/reverse switch. Looks like they were added at some point. Plus there are 3 wires from the obc, as well as the main black and small grey. A red fused wire going to + selonid. Then a green and yellow sliced into connector that goes to motor controller So I’m confused. The wire i connect from negative battery pack should go to which terminal on the selonoid. ????? The grey wIre that was disconnected provided that. So should I remove or by pass the charger relay to get it to charge? My idea was to put the charger on timer so it does not over charge the batteries. I keep my cart in my garage so having it charge a few hours each day should work Am I on the right track?? Thanks. If you have a power drive charger, and you did a obc bypass, that charger will no longer work on that cart.

If I actually said that, then I need to change it. You can get the charger to turn on by moving wires around, but it won't turn off. And if you try to use a timer, that is such a bad idea, you will not get the life out of your batteries that you should.

If you are positive you have a good working obc, and cart wont charge, try these : Check carts charge receptacle , check # 10 red wire on main positive for corrosion or swelling, check fuse in yellow holder , try tugging a little on the gray wire at back of receptacle to see if it pulls out.

Hi Wayne. After a few days with no blinking amber light, it started again on and off about every 5 seconds. But yesterday it stopped again and has been fine for two days with no blinking at all. So, it seems I can get by just charging up with my Mod Z and not cut out the OBC. What should the voltage be on a fully charged 48v system of six Trojan 8v batteries. I get up to 55v usually before I stop charging so could leave it going longer. I'm really curious as to what the intermittent OBC failure might be....just curious.

Not the best answer. The new charger with the green cord makes it a pain to cleanly wire onboard. No problem with the 110v cord, you can wire that like I do in my videos. I even sell the custom plate on my ebay store. But in order to wire the other end for onboard, you have 3 options : # 1-'You can reuse the original cart receptacle, by wiring it to the roypow unit, then plugging in the adapter, and leaving the receptacle laying inside the bucket area. # 2--Get different lithium charger, you can use one from Allied, that will wire directly to the roypow, like I do in my videos. # 3-- Roypow has a whip, that plugs into the charger and the other end just has 2 wires hanging out, that you attach to the roypow unit.

I don't know how it couldn't work? Very easy, reroute black # 10 wire from cart charge receptacle to main battery negative. Then reroute the skinny yellow wire from solenoid, so it goes from solenoid to that same main negative terminal, nothing else.

Dpi charger died so I bought a links from Battery source, worked great for a couple months then Quit working on my 2000 DS. Still worked on friends DS. Sold Links charger and bought eagle performance charger from battery source. golf cart still runs fine just won’t charge. They said just run negative charger receptacle wire to final negative battery. Did not charge, then followed your instructions with yellow wire from solenoid to negative battery and no charge still and cart stopped working. Replaced yellow wire back to controller. First thing to check is the # 10 red wire from charge receptacle to main pack positive. Make sure the ring terminal or end of wire is not corroded or swelled up. Then run black from cart receptacle to main pack negative. If you have a skinny yellow wire on the solenoid, reroute that to main negative. Not the fat yellow wire.

@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 I did everything and still No charge. Cart still runs. Could there be anything wrong with the new charger, plug has bottom prong slightly shorter than +/- prongs. @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart49004 жыл бұрын
Money wise, its almost the same cost either way. 1 advantage is of you bypass the obc, you will never have trouble with that again. Another advantage, is you need a new charger, so end result will be you should have a newer and beer charger. THERE is only 1 model of the obc that is still available for less than 250.00, that is for a very old model, and that is the only 1 that will be cheaper to replace the obc than bypass it, that is assuming you are doing the work yourself. I myself, bypass obcs, rather than replace on all my carts.
