If I had to tie this video to a generational cohort, it would be Generation X (hi, that's me!) I miss this kind of music too. Cesar does have a beautiful voice and I love how they showcased him here, but all of these folks are superb. From left to right are Layne Stein (VoicePlay's beatboxer and occasionally baritone or bass,) Cesar De La Rosa (baritone/tenor 2,) guest artist Ashley Diane, Eli Jacobson (tenor 1,) and Geoff Castellucci (bass.) Eli's first name is pronounced like 'jelly' and Geoff's is pronounced 'Jeff.' I liked your reaction, keep up the good work!

Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay. They are acapella, so all the 'instruments' are vocal. I have subscribed & liked to see more VoicePlay reactions. Geoff Castellucci (The bass) has his own channel. He also has a 5 octave range. Cesar De La Rosa is the first one who sang in this song. Eli Jacobson (pronounced Eli like Jelly) is the high tenor. The beatboxer is Lane Styne. The young man singing is their guest singer, Anthony Garguila. For VoicePlay, I recommend: "Nothing Else Matters", "Seven Nation Army", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Hoist The Colors", "Drunken Sailor", "The Dragonborn Comes", "Hellfire" and my all time favorite is "Valhalla Calling". For Geoff Castellucci, I recommend: "Ain't No Sunshine", "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold", "I See Fire", "16 Tons", "Jack's Lament", "Monster Mash", "Unshaken" and "Wicked Game".

From the left - Geoff Castellucci(original member has a 5 octave range from bass from A0 growl, B0 subharmonic, F1 full chest, B4 some mix, Bb5 high tenor), Cesar de la Rosa came on as baritone and tenor about 3 yrs ago after Earl Elkins (an original member from 1990s) left the group for personal reasons and J None was recruited into the US Navy for his vocal skills (he still does some videos with VoicePlay when he can get to Orlando. The middle guy is a friend of their's, Anthony Garguila (Gar-jewl-la) with a fabulous voice and shows up regularly. Eli Jacobsen, high rock tenor, joined VP in 2010, and Layne Stein (another original member) is baritone, primarily beatboxer, and violinist (aka VioLayne). They did a post-apocalyptic trilogy over the last 4 yrs - Warriors (Imagine Dragons) (Earl is in this one), Dream On (Aerosmith), Cesar is a member here, and then Seven Nation Army (White Stripes) with Anthony as guest vocalist. Also consider Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead). They've a couple of new ones - Classical Chaos with Rachel Potter and then The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson). Tennesee Whiskey, We're Good (Cesar's audition w/ VP), Drunken Sailor and tons more.

VoicePlay started a long long time ago and started working professionally when they got out of high school back around 1997. The constant members on all of their videos are the bass singer (the tall gentleman with long hair) Geoff Castellucci, the bald rock tenor Eli Jacobsen, and the beatboxer Layne Stein. When they started doing KZbin videos they were a five member group. The other two members which you can still see in older videos are Earl Elkins Jr, super high tenor who was with them until 2020, and Tony Wakim, baritone who was with them until about 2017. When Tony left the group, J None came in and lasted until about 2021 when he went into the US Navy and still appears regularly with them as a guest star whenever he’s in the area. When J left he was replaced by Cesar Delarosa, the gentleman with the breathy voice that opened the song. They’ve been down to four permanent members after Earl left in 2020. They fill that fifth slot with a wide variety of guest artists. In this production it’s Anthony Gargiula, probably most famous for all of his minis that he does in a corner of his kitchen with a wide variety of guest artists. Most recently he’s been doing minis with Teddy Swims. No matter who they choose to appear with them, it seems like they’ve always been with the group. They always state that they arrange for the voices they have not for the ones they want. I don’t know how far back you want to go, but they recently released a cover of Michael Jackson‘s The Way You Make Me Feel. The guest artist for that is DeeJay Young who was the perfect fit. His voice could easily be mistaken for MJ’s, but rather than slavishly copying what MJ did in the pop world, they arranged it to be more of a slow jazzy version. Well worth a view even if you don’t react to it.

Thank you so much for reacting to this! The story has always been so touching. A father, hears his little girl praying for ribbons for her hair. The stores are all closed, he wants to buy them for her so she won't be disappointed, but nothing stayed open all night in those days. When he peaked in in the morning, there were scarlet (red) ribbons all over her bed. He can't figure out how they got there, but knew his little girl would wake up happy and trusting.

mans is hitting non-existent notes down there with a B0, only a grand piano, a 5-string bass guitar with extended range, or an octobass can even produce such a sound... a 4-string bass guitar or a contrabass stops at E1 (the first note he holds here, also the Oogie Boogie note)

can\t you hear Geoff swiching from angel to demon to angy angel and finally to death demon again ?... In the begining , I really can hear love and despair in his voice ... and then , after the theatrical moment , you can hear the vengeance and the bitterness ....That moment actually turns Frollo in a 100% villan.

I disagree about the acting for the spoken part, for me he does it well. He is a man who sees the women as something to own and is irritated that she has left because he wants control. The whole song is about how it's not his fault if he acts unreasonably, it's hers or gods or indeed anyone else but him. Thinking you can give someone the options of be my property or die by fire is hardly reasonable. I agree he is a awesome villain because he is so real.

I think over production would have taken away from the music. As it is the music conveys the feeling. I think having scenery from Notre Dame would have been in very poor taste since it actually did burn down and the song does threaten for the city to be burned. Too soon.

I wouldn't call what Frollo feels is falling in love. This is about lust, and the self righteousness that makes him blame the girl, or god, or anyone but himself for what he's feeling. I don;'t know how much more emotion you wanted. For me this was very emotional .

I suppose they could have had the Notre Dame Cathedreal on a screen behind them, but since it burned a few years ago, they may have thought it would be in bad taste. Or they could have been inside the cathedral/castle, but then the lighting wouldn't have had the fire feeling to it. I love it just the way they did it.

Nate (NF) was initially signed by a small Christian Label, they kept telling Nate a record was coming but they never released it, so Nate had to sue the label to get out of the contract. During the battle with the small label, he quit singing and worked as a electrician's assistant to earn money. Once that was cleared up, he received a call to come to Capital Records and demo his talents and he was signed to Capital's Christian music division. Nate felt he did not want boxed in to straight Christian music and Capital let him follow his vision of being a Christion that raps to everybody, not just other Christians. Nate devised his own lane of music. All his Albums are like a book series with the songs being chapters in each book, (record.) You will hear him talk about past things we heard in earlier songs and hit at future things that come up in later albums! This song talks about his break between record labels and Capital picked it up for release. The NF journey is a list of songs that all chain together and tell his life story. Songs not on the Journey are not inferior, and are worth listening to, to see how diverse his Rapping and singing is. Once Fans of NF find your channel, your subs will rise quickly!

Considering the actions they're singing about taking against the Drunken Sailor are actually punishments for being found drunk, how Geoff arranged the song, and the rest of the guys made it sound so happy and upbeat to the point you'd not only enjoy the punishments, you'd happily inflict them on yourself, yeah, this was an amazing take on all the other shanties that have been popping up in the last couple years. HomeFree's Sea Shanty Medley is a perfect example of the "traditional" take on shanties. For an even fresher take, try out their Skull and Bones song, which was written by them, (Adam Chance in specific, he's their unofficial "pirate in disguise") in collaboration with Ubisoft releasing the video game Skull and Bones.

The Red vs Blue series actually predates KZbin - not just it's appearance on YT, but before YT was even in existence. It was a web series hosted on the Rooster Teeth website when there really wasn't any other way to get it out to an audience, with word-of-mouth being the way people found out about it. When KZbin came along, RvB was transferred over to YT, although it continued to premiere on RT's website for quite a while even after it became popular on YT.

VoicePlay and Geoff make BTS's for most of their videos the past few years, but you have to be a patron to access them. VP's BTS's are available at the $5 tier, while Geoff's is available for all his patrons, with the lowest tier being $1, since he can't guarantee a BTS every month due to it just being him and his wife doing the majority of the work so they don't always have the time to do them. there are a few BTS videos on YT as well, if you search for "voiceplay bts", made by collaborators or people working behind the scenes.
