I always used a marlin spike hitch for staking out guylines and PTC hangs....is the clove hitch more secure? Or is it more a preference thing. Thanks!

I just use my surplus 3 piece sleep system whole or in parts, depending on the situation. It works out great for me and it was given to me so, didn't cost me a dime.

I used drainage pipe net filter and made two skins, one for each sidè. Just pull off in opposite directions. The drain pipe netting is stronger and only comes in black so is subdued rather than having bright colors flashing. Thè extra expense is nominal.

--Apologies if i missed this but did you put the excess mixture into a spray bottle? Is it still effective to use at a later time? As you mentioned, it can get expensive..
@TimWatsonOutdoors2 ай бұрын
I did not. I didn’t show it but I grab every single piece of hiking clothing I could potentially use and random socks I use for hiking to use any extra up.

The clothes don't have to be soaked. Contact with a few molecules is all it takes and spraying until the surface appears damp is sufficient. The ticks do have to make contact. Consider rolling up the bottom 6" of pant legs.

Space blankets work well too. They reflect your heat back at you and can be used for emergency warmth if needed. If spread loosely they don't get ripped. They are about 6' x 8' and we tuck them under the edges of the tent so as to avoid runoff being caught and channeled under the tent. :)

My family and i just did this hike. Beautiful but at times scary. One person on the trail saw a wild boar, we saw gators. Thankfully no bears. I enjoyed your video.

So I saw your comment on that pillow washing video and I now have a question: Is that shirt you're wearing in this video canvas, wool, or some other ridiculous and expensive fabric? Because you only have the best of the best, correct? Those were your words. So I had to ask: What does a clothing snob wear while hanging a hammock? Just curious. You seem very invested in your clothing and the other things that you have acquired. Especially when telling other people how to wash their pillows.

Wow. Brings back memories of my PCT hike in 2015. I hammock camped most of California and all of Oregon and Washington. I saw about twenty mountain goats near Knife’s Edge in the Goat Rocks. Cheers Jeff

Wow its too bad this happened to your van, never got to see this in daylight before, glad all were safe, guess bears are everywhere, our districts had a lot of bears this year due to wildfires pushing them to town and causing havoc looking for food, they were sleeping on garages , taking out fruit trees and trying to taxi in vehicles.

wow that's rough// they know what minvans are // in yosemite bears are known to target them over most other vehicles because of course there is food spilled in there some where from some time long ago... they always smell it, they rip right into them no problem locked or not // glad the damage wasn't too terrible sure makes for great stories so cool you got the video!

I never mess with bears after my encounter in the middle of the night in the Green Swamp....sometimes when I camp alone I still get some bear anxiety. A ranger once told me a story about a bear that tore up a car in the mountains of South Carolina and the only thing in the car was a roll of peppermints and it tore up the car for that they have an amazing sense of smell

Black bears don’t scare me as much as grizzlies. But any close bear encounter is enough to keep most people up.

We used to have a bear where I lived that also found out how to use car handles, he went on a multi week crime spree, letting himself into unlocked cars on our road. Then one day he found out that he could grab the top of the door frame and peal it down as easy as I'd bend a small tree branch.. That night 3 cars had their doors folded open. Not long after the game warden came and captured him, he was relocated far into state land.

Probably comprehensive insurance as that is for everything but collisions.
