At the end he said he won the tour "Fair and square" but it was even more commendable - he won the Tour de France with all Hinault against him and even the journalists against him. What is with this journalist's comment "So you take the victory, Hinault takes the glory".. What? I admire Greg for controlling his angry and calmly replying just "Why do you say that?". I would have said "Are you that brainwashed and nationalistic?" or something like that.

Lemond shouldn't be too dissapointed. He won three tours. He came in the time of Hinault. Like Merckx who lost to Thevenet 1975 Tour, Thevenet won again in 1977. Hinault would probably would of won more if he was taller in height. He use to climb out of the saddle alot in mountain stages, comparing to Merckx

I think Greg could not get back in shape for the tour, like he did when he was younger..he just always got fat in the off season and when you get older it's harder to get rid of the fat

Greg Lemond was a champion, one of his rivalries Bernard Hinault. I remember and still watch the 1986 Tour de France Gap to Serre Chevalier, where Lemond made a strong break with Zimmermann on the Col du Granon, putting Hinault 2 minutes behind I think. That stage Lemond was in Yellow.

I think that the accident back in 1987 , has limeted to win the tour. My opinion is , that he never recovered fully. Uf thus happened he had for sure winn5 times the tour.

The rumor that Lemond would ride for Motorola is interesting ... not least because he almost signed for 7-11 in 1990 but that he and Armstrong would have been teammates on Motorola.

Very cool. Love the USA jersey you are wearing and the drone footage of the climb is quite interesting. Had no idea the course went into the countryside like that. And I appreciate how the footage from the race matched the turns and points on the actual climb itself you rode.

Cycling was much more fun and spectacular then. soooo much better!!! In my country, Spain, Delgado was a legend, an icon. We had been hearing about Indurain for some years that he would one day win a Tour, but the years were passing by and Miguel failed in his attempts to win the Vuelta a España in 1990 and 1991. Indurain seemed to work better than Delgado already in the 1990 Tour, but nobody seemed be prepared for the generational change that occurred that day, not only in Spanish cycling, but in world cycling. Lemond, Fignon, Delgado, Roche, etc, made way for Indurain, Bugno and Chiappucci that day. Lemond was a true legend. Here in Spain, practically nobody doubted that he would win his fourth Tour, although we wanted to believe in Pedro Delgado, our own legend. I think that in the 1991 Tour, Lemond was a little heavier than in 1990. That doesn't help to get through a stage like this either. That day, Lemond was nervous and in a more attacking attitude than usual. Tactically, he was an excellent runner, but I think that attitude didn't help him either. He attacked at Aubisque, he attacked at Tourmalet, he attacked at Aspin even though he had already shown his weakness... but he always looked at people's faces, and if he saw a candidate in trouble, he played the cards. of the. He attacked at the Aubisque, he attacked at the Tourmalet when he saw that Delgado was in trouble. He attacked on the Aspin because he saw that Leblanc was in trouble. But, when a champion falls, he does so by killing. Greg was one of the greatest, in my opinion. He could have won the Tour in 1985, without the hunting accident who knows if he would also have won in 1987 and 1988. After the hunting accident, and with his body decimated, he was still able to win 2 more Tour de France and a world championship... He was a very powerful time trialist, an excellent rider, one of the best downhill, very intelligent tactically and ahead of their time in terms of technology and methodology. LEGEND!

There was no generational change in the early 90s. The cyclists that dominated the sport a few years prior were still strong. It was all the dope the new 90s cyclists were doing.

@@dachicagoan8185 ah, ok. No dope in the 80s and no ageing.
@dachicagoan8185
@dachicagoan8185 2 жыл бұрын
@Aitor Arrastia there was dope in the 80s but it wasn't as widespread. Doctors hadn't perfected the formula and the UCI hadn't realized the profits they could reap with it. Obviously aging has an effect but cyclists who have good VO2 max can still compete into their early-mid 30s against younger cyclists with comparable lung capacity, strength and endurance. 1991-1992 was as if someone pulled a switch and the whole sport and culture transformed.

@@aitorarrastiaEPO. Indurain, Bugno and Chiappucci were among the very first to be injected full of EPO. You dont have a clue. Drugs like stimulants are like coffee+ on 3 week tour. EPO is liquid dynamite. Many great drivers: LeMond, Fignon, Hampsten, etc suddenly stopped getting results within 1-2 years, only at their 30 birthdays, because they did not want to inject that sh... into their veins. EPO came to pharmacies in 1989. By 1992 half of Peloton was injecting it.
@kimmoj2570
@kimmoj2570 4 ай бұрын
@@dachicagoan8185I fully agree. Just an little addition. EPO was not available in 80s. It came to pharmacies in Europe in summer 1989. And its 100 times better dope for pro cyclist than steroids (bloat you with water = more weight), or stimulants (work little for day or 2, then you are alone rest of the tour). EPO did nothing else but turned your blood to red blood cell soup. More red blood cells = more performance on bike.

Lemond preparing the Tour 94?. Against the best of the history Sr, Indurain. I do not believe this video. He has to be proud of banesto that decided Pedro Delgado to be first man of tour 1990. Indurain, training and preparinf g that Tour would have won for 10 min.

There shouldn’t be anything controversial about what happened in 1985. After Hinault got injured at St. Etienne, Paul Köchli had Lemond mark Roche’s attacks without contributing to them. That way they were putting the squeeze on Roche and giving Hinault a chance to get back on terms. And if Hinault had totally blown up Lemond would have inherited the lead because he was already second on GC. There was no reason to just abandon one leader and put all the eggs in the other basket.
