Thanks My husband is suffering from parkenson deseas for the last 8 years. Now his age is 57. His main issue is stepping and right hand movement. What will we do. Please suggest us.

Hi there. Sorry to hear but you both can still live well and happily. For walking, tell him to lead with the edge of his heel and bring his sight line up, not down. "Raise the gaze, feel the heel and swing the wing." Wing of course refers to the arm. PD can make things we learned to do without being taught, difficult. Getting out of a chair, rolling over in bed, walking etc. Break them down, figure out the best way to do them, and practice. Hope that helps.

Great strategies Patrick!!. How do you deal with freezing with one side is very rigid?? Thank you
@SmartXPDАй бұрын
Hi George. Try to get some good PT to help you with stretching and movement. There are many different strategies for breaking a freeze, feel free to call me to discuss if you wish. But it's a great idea for a video! I'll try to produce one next.

How about replacing the towel with a resistance band?
@SmartXPDАй бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to comment! I don't like that idea of using resistance tubing for this drill. It can be an acceptable substitute if you don't have a towel, but I like the consistency of positioning for the hands/arms the towel provides. With tubing, you'd lose that. That being said, I use resistance tubing often and think it's a great tool for movement and strengthening.

I'm smiling because trotting and pacing are different to horses. I'm a pacer by nature, trotting is difficult for me and I don't have Parkinson's. This was very helpful.

@SmartXPD. Hi Patrick I wrote in a comment section about my husband's recent one month diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and you left a phone number in response. Sadly I didn't get the phone number and the video disappeared. He's not taking any meds ( although deep down we know he needs a bit of Sinemet). Thank you. God bless. He's in physical therapy, but soon to start LSVT

Thanks. We are going to add this to our repertoire of activities that we do at the gym. People are intrigued by the routines that we do in the corner of the gym. Some people even have begun asking us about our practice and have begun imitating us. My husband is 82, recently diagnosed and is in early stages PD. We are using your exercises, among other things, to prepare us for a trip to Chama, NM, and daily hiking on rocky, unfamiliar terrain. Four months since his diagnosis, you'd hardly know Ray has PD. His gait and balance are restored and he has a left arm swing again.

@@SmartXPD It might be to much of a liability but I wonder if you ever design workouts using a Bosu or a box to step up and off. I have made some of your routines.ore challenging for Ray by having him, for example, stand on the Bosu next to a hand grip attached to the TRX section in the gym and do the high knee raises and other leg kicks and side raises. He also does complicated step ups and overs on the Bosu grabbing the hand grip as he goes. He's now up to two minutes standing still on the Bosu without touching anything. I have him performing these actions without looking at his feet as they squish around on the bosu. He focuses on a bolt on a steel beam at eye level in front of him while keeping his posture in the no money stance. It's awesome. He's remarkably grounded. He is also incredibly good with your tightrope squat routines. He loves the way he feels.

@@1RecluseBrown hi there, thanks for your comment. I have a Bosu and had not thought about doing a KZbin video with it but maybe I will in the near future. Sounds like Ray is working very hard, that’s so great to hear. I use the Bosu with some of my clients, but of course not all. and I use it with both sides down. Depending on what I want to achieve.

Superb video. It explained some behavioral nuances that I had been observing but couldn't quite tie together previously. No other book, article, or video that I have encountered previously has touched upon them, either, at all or in such detail.
