Wow, thanks for the amazing videos! I hiked the AZT in 2023 and the desert section of the PCT in 2013. I think I’ve fallen in love with desert hiking! Now, I’m considering either the Mogollon Rim Trail or the GET. Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy the section behind Pine over the Mogollon Rim on the AZT; I found it a bit boring. How would you compare the MRT and the GET? Which one did you like better, and did you find one of the trails more difficult than the other? How long did it take you to complete them, and if you had to choose one, which would it be?
@alantraceyoutdoors3572
@alantraceyoutdoors3572 3 күн бұрын
@@walking-away Hi, both trails are very similar in that they are very rugged and remote. Both trails also require a fair degree of navigation especially the GET as there aren’t any way posts/ way markers anywhere on trail and a lot of the trail you have to self navigate across open country. Both trails are harder than the AZT in that there are no trail angels or trail magic anywhere and you will e lucky to see another hiker along the way. The MRT took me 29 days I think, and the GET took 48 days. If I were to do one again it would be the GET especially the part from Monticello to the end, very rugged and remote with great views. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Yours isn't the first video I've seen where people get their sticks entangled with the gate whilst filming. Limestone pavement in the Westmorland Dales up through Odendale past Orton Astby etc as you head towards Kirkby Stephen although you probably already know that now lol Sadly the Westmorland Dales get overshadowed by the Yorkshire Dales, even more so now they've been put into the YD National Park. Might as well be the Dales National Park now. Great set of videos really enjoyed them, also nice to hear what others think of the area on my doorstep. @alantraceyoutdoors3572
@alantraceyoutdoors3572 2 ай бұрын
@@stephenkeating344 To the AZT? The GET is way more difficult from a terrain standpoint as a lot of the route is off trail. A lot of the times when there is supposed to be a trail there isn’t because of serious fire damage. I carried paper maps and compass with me on the GET as back up but didn’t need to use them as my Gaia app worked just fine. Also there is no way posts or way markers on the GET, MRT as there are on the AZT. There were times on the GET when I was cursing out load in frustration of the bush beating I had to do, There is also a lot more support on the AZT with trail angels and water stashes along the route. On Brett’s trails your on your own which I really liked. I do hope to do the AZT again but SOBO as I’d love to see the same terrain in its Autumn colours. Of all the trails I’ve done the GET is my favourite. If I can help in future with any questions please ask and good luck they are both truly amazing trails.

Hi Pete, thanks for the question. I use the Gaia app extensively now because I hike abroad as well and I’ve got used to it. @@peterleigh8474 Pretty much, yes. The C2C Isn’t shown on the OSMap as a route you would have to download the gps coordinates into the app. If you purchase the HiiKER app the route is already available you just download it to your phone so it will still work eights signal. There is also a lot of info on camping/hostels/b&b and where the local shops are in relation to you. There are a few good videos out there to help with that particular app as it’s not very intuitive.
