To be honest, I think I’ve re-watched this anime like 20 times

Just needs better character writing. Characters feel like NPCs... Capeta is the actual goat racing anime.

I also don't care for slice of life anime. But the girl's discoveries that happen after she gets a mode of transformation are something many of us experienced with our first car.

One huge turn off is that the anime itself is so unrealistic. I can buy how the race exists, but the fact that a modified 86 beats all the cars is so unrealistic. At least in initial D, the drivers were mostly amateurs and takumi only did downhills, which serves to convince us.

I feel this video missed. The side characters were definitely not forgettable, and were definitely designed to be make more impact than our main characters. The technical aspect of Wangan Midnight definitely makes it unique, but to me it's not the defining aspect of the show. As you mentioned, the side character drivers are what star on the show more in terms of character, and to me, they are the actual stars of the show, hence why I usually start me rewatches from Episode 7. From that first arc highlighting the side characters they highlighted the fact that this racing was never about winners and losers, just those who stay and those who don't. The side characters or 'contenders' each show a unique aspect of the different types of street racers out there, and in the end, there was more to life than racing, while Akio and Shima continue to drive. Each one of those contenders had the potential to win their battle with the Z and the Blackbird, their car not being the one to hold back but in the end it was the driver. Notice how in the end, they were all never enemies, just people who faded out of the top level cause they realized the danger of that level was not something they wanted to sustain. Its also important to note that unlike Initial D where towards the end, even if racing was good, the outcome always meant Project D won officially, in Wangan Midnight, our main characters trade blows with the purpose of them coming back stronger or different each time. Not that it matters cause again, the main theme is that driving at that level is a journey, like an endless marathon, not a race to be won. Also not mentioned in the video and unfortunately seemingly ignored in the final opinion is that the show ended abruptly to the 'finale' was basically just another arc, and not a true send off. They just couldn't keep producing the anime so it was a lackluster ending given they needed to just close it. The manga continues and we constantly get new challengers. Meanwhiel in Initial D, by the time of Project D, the charcater development really starts to be non-existent. Dont get me wrong, as someone who loves the action, Stage 4 and 5 are what i rewatch the most, but in the end what defined the drivers was only their driving and how that developed. It was only really Keisuke that got to develop, and in the end, people still dont think he was the ace of Project D despite Takumi expressing how he thinks Keisuke could totally beat him in the downhill and was his own motivation to get better.

I had no idea this was a sequel to Initial D. I definitely enjoyed my first run but I did have a problem with the dialogue. Too much talking not enough racing and the sexualization of the angels is just ugh come on I want more depth than just perv antics. But it is what it is.

I feel in MF ghost they are over hyping the races, and loosing the interest in race, i wished stories needs more polishing

6:25 Akio's utter lack of personality I feel like was intentional, not as a "easy to self insert into this guy" type of deal, rather I feel it improves the implied supernatural aspect of this show - Akio is dead, killed by the Devil Z and what is remaining is nothing but a human-shaped servant of the Devil. This show + Tokyo Xtreme Racer games + real life experience with driving a bunch of different vehicles from brand new to 20 years old gave me a huge appreciation for chassis rigidity of the cars, such an underrated bit, mostly because there is no unit of measuring it.

Okay i go tell everybody what happened to our men's Takumi since you obviously have your head stuck in nostalgia. So what happened to our boy takumi was that he became a rally driver and was nicknamed the "tragic rallyest" after he crashed really badly and broke his arm he retired but stayed in England to teach drivers at the academy which is why Kanata drives similar to him cause he was taught by him?

S2 EP10 is the most emotional htting for me. The moment Kumiko said "I really am sad" and cried on the train. DUDE, I had never cried that hard for an anime before. AND THEN THE SECOND HALF OF THE EPISODE! The final confrontation with Asuka. Holyshit. I broke down twice in a single episode

Bro the final race could be the best race in anime history but it was so much wasted potential, but it was so cool nontheless even better than Initial D final race, for one moment I thought Akio is going to lose this one until the FC guy lift the throttle Also I really liked Akio, sometimes he is very cartoonish, but I think it was on purpose to shine the bond Driver & Car, also the damn effort he puts rebuilding the engine, welding the chasis and puting 800 km after RGO tuned it was something special

When S3 ended it was one of these rare occasions where everything felt horribly empty, and I miss these characters so much - especially Kumiko, Natsuki and Kanade.

i aint got no time to watch the video, but I just wanted to say, mf ghost was some bullshit that I couldn't finish with best will and it made me cringe so hard, how they tried to exploit the initial dick legacy

With Initial D It was possible to suspend belief and think, you know maybe that slow ass 86 driven correctly on a steep windy downhill course could keep up with faster sports cars with double the power. It was also to think, you know maybe these punk kids could get away with this illegal street racing in this setting. And the drama elements all worked great! And when Takumi no u'ed an opponent with some ass pull BS it was epic and worked well. But god MFG is total slop. The setting makes no sense. The racing rules make no sense. The character interactions make no sense. The MF Angels make no sense and are cringe as hell. I mean I like fanservice as much as the next guy but what the hell bro... The initial D sad lonely driver thing rings very true with the target demographic and they just dropped teh spaghetti on that traded it for some thirst trap fanservice. So lame. Like my god none of this was hard to do and MFG fumbles it so hard. But for some reason some people actually like it anyways? I dunno man. Its so bad I can't believe it. What happened? Initial D had girl heroines, girls with value. The MF Angels are basically the equivalent of pole dancers, no value beyond their looks, not even people just objectifications of women. And yeah, canonically underage. Also, I've flown RC aircraft for 15 years now and have done some FPV drone racing in my time. Seeing the lame ass drones flying around everywhere in MFG is cringe because they aren't realistic. It's totally possible and could be incorporated here but not the way it was depicted. Like they should have had some technical experts to refer to on how the racing might work and how any technical stuff they wanted to incorporate into the show might work. But they just made it all up out of their ass or asked chat gpt or something. Then they wrote the story like a middleschool boy might write initial D fanfiction. The only thing I like about MFG are the character designs. They kept some of that Initial D look but made everybody attractive instead of kind of ugly from many angles.

I personally LOVE IT i caught up to seasons 2 and then read the rest of the manga i don't know much about car or racing world so its just enough of a "fantasy" for me the "angels" is weird but im used this type of stuff japan does at this point for better or for worse

I am enjoying MF Ghost, watched up to current - but I have a gripe with the pacing. Anyone else feel they are really dragging out the races? With how long each race is taking, the story is hardly progressing.
