What is worse is that if you compare it to most race queen outfits, you can see that even the actual race queen outfit is less revealing than the Angels outfit. Heck, at least if it's something like Azur Lane's race queen outfits, I can expect that because Azur Lane is one of those balls on the wall fanservice heavy game. MF Ghost's Angels just exist for the sake of having any kind of fanservice and not even as good as Mako's shower scene in Special Stage or any of the swimsuit scenes in Initial D

Tsuchiya never worked on the manga directly. His main job was working with the animation team, making sure the drifting was represented properly. And he stopped working on it after 4th stage. And it really shows, as the 5th stage section in both the manga and anime is shockingly bad. Also, Kanata drove in f3, that's where Sawatari knows him from. He was a prodigy there too, but not champion before he left to take care of his mom before her passing.

The quality of the 4th stage is where everything starts to fall apart. We treat each oponent in the same way, team goes, practice, the majority of oponents are pricks, race starts, ryosuke explains the plot armor of the race, both keisuke and takumi wins.

A back story on Bunta would’ve been so fire. In stage 1 episode 23, when Keiichi calls Bunta over the phone , we get a peak into the professional side of racing Bunta was once involved in. A prequel focusing on how Bunta got into Group A racing, how he did against Touge downhill racers in his day, and the relationship with his father would be a solid story. And if they can revert back to the OG animation from stage 1, *chefs kiss.

Bunta is one of those characters that works better in the mystery, this dude is just THAT good and it leaves people wondering. The fact then that you get these wonderful little teases of him coming back and smokin' Takumi on the streets was hype. Although I wouldn't object to a bit more on Bunta, it should just be a single OVA/special episode to just fill a gap in or two, giving people a bit of info while still leaving you wanting more.

The Exige 360 has a slightly higher top speed (172 compared to Emira's 171), considerably lower weight (1138KG VS 1446KG), and a quicker 0-60 time (4.0 sec vs 4.4 sec). *Edit: Sorry, the Emira weight 1446, not 1400.

I think it's pretty much impossible for MF Ghost to live up to Initial D's legacy, because Initial D is so important to the development of Japanese car culture, Eurobeat, and the history of anime in general. It won't be able to break new ground because it is just building on the cultural foundation that Initial D already established. That said, MF Ghost is great because it proves that the formula still works. We have a new generation of drivers, modern technology, and modern cars, but the excitement of high level driving is still there. It is appealing for all the same reasons as Initial D, and has all the same storytelling weaknesses, too. In that aspect, I think MF Ghost succeeds because it updates the appeal of Initial D for a new generation. In a weird way, it is a very-near-future Sci Fi where AI is being used more to help broadcast races and track driver performance more than in real life. And it is really damn cool to see a new racing anime with modern vehicles. I got hyped when the new opening played with Jungle Fire and it felt like a worthy homage to some classic Eurobeat moments. When watching MF Ghost, the thing that disappointed me the most was the level of fanservice for underaged characters in the new series. There is a bit too much focus on it to the point where it made me uncomfortable at points. It's been a long time, but I don't remember Initial D having this much fan service, or sexualizing its female characters to this extent. In MF Ghost it is to the point where it distracts from the story and I could see it being offputting for car nerds who just want to watch the show to enjoy the racing and car mechanical aspects. Like for Initial D, I feel like I could sit down and watch it with anyone, but with MF Ghost, I would not be able to make the same unconditional recommendation because I would be embarrassed to watch it with a female friend. It would be a lot easier for me to recommend MF Ghost if it just focused on being a great slice of life show about adjusting to life in Japan and being a pro race driver, and cut out the fanservice parts.

I don’t view MFG as a more direct sequel, but rather a spiritual successor. Also the controversy when the show released around how tires work in MFG (particularly tire deg) was fucking hilarious and really showed just how many people in the community know NOTHING about how racing slicks work.

@@Powdercoreyguy Racing slicks degrade quicker than grooved street tires becuase they're operating at very high temperatures under very high loads and the grip wearing down is the outer layers of rubber wearing off and coming off of the tires, laying into the track. As rubber lays into asphalt, it provides more grip because rubber grips rubber better than it grips asphalt (unless it's rainy, in which case this is now reversed). This is why on many race tracks, you can see a black line that basically outlines your racing line: that's where all the rubber is laid down.

@donnycorn3086 I never compared it do initial d. Improvising only works when you have the time to do it, while still staying faithful to the source material. The race itself took up like 1/3rd of the season, the romance too up another 1/3rd. Not much space left to do Improvising. The main ways the Anime improves is Character design and action. The characters in the Manga look like blob-fish, and the overtakes have 0 feeling. The pacing is also slightly better in the anime, but they couldn't really do much, and it just gets worse as the story continues.

Here are some facts about this: Shuichi Shigeno, the author, didn’t want to draw racing manga anymore; he only started writing it as a way to make a living. Previously, he worked on other genres, as Sailor Ace, but it didn’t receive the response he hoped for. After that, his wife passed away, which left him without the motivation to do much. However, he still needed to earn a living, so he created MF Ghost . If you notice the square-eyed characters in the manga, don’t be surprised-he really had no enthusiasm for drawing, so that’s how it ended up like that.

Personally, i like mf ghost, people tends to expect sequel to be directly connected to the first series which is true most of the time, but sometimes by not being connected to the old series, the creater can add new ideas without being affected by the previous lore and i just think mf ghost lore is perfect, it is literally what will happen to us, electric cars are dominating and gas engine are slowly disapearing, and by using a lowly basic car to compete with absolute high end vehicles around the world, its makes the 86 more respectful in that context in my opinion.

Funny thing it’s a similar car racing comparison from the same era with the same problem. Initial D had characters that had issues with being 2 dimensional vs Capetas characters are very well fleshed out, and Initial D focuses on street races vs Capeta also is more pro/formula racing. Same thing happens with overtake vs MFG

Personally I didn't like it at all lol but I think I've made that clear. I posted a comment on the MFG subreddit the other day where I explained how I would change the series to address what I think the biggest problems are from a story perspective (and I got downvoted lmao) but here's what I would do to make MFG work. The story of MFG just doesn't work because there's not enough room for Kanata to grow as a racer and as a character he's too emotionless and quiet for us to know much about him, but also the search for his dad and why he's even competing in MFG aren't particularly clear at all. There are elements there that could be tweaked to make him searching for his dad more important. Make it so instead of his mother being dead she's still sick so he needs the money from MFG for her treatment. Make him resentful of his dad for running off so he wants to confront him about abandoning his family while his mother is dying. With those changes now we have a strong character motivation, the races actually matter, and Kanata has goals that connect both the races and his personal journey. While we're at it, make Kanata more angry and emotional. We got quiet (though not at all emotionless) with Takumi, so let's have someone more similar to Keisuke as a lead to make it more distinct from ID. I'd also eliminate the "trained by Takumi in a world class racing academy" backstory because it makes him insanely uninteresting because he can just do anything and is capable of everything from the very beginning. Make him a poor kid who learned his skills street racing and is now trying to break into the elite racing class with nothing but raw skill to save his mother's life and he has an extremely hard time keeping up with these high end sports cars. This would also be good because it would feel like us as fans of initial D and street racing are "graduating" to the big leagues, something that was always talked about in Initial D, but with Kanat's family drama and new bolder personality, it also feels a lot more fresh and interesting. At this point you may be saying "this is just a completely different series now" and yeah you're right, because everything I'm changing are elements that make MFG boring. Oh and the angels no longer exist. If they absolutely NEED to exist, Ren is in her 20s now and joined the angels because she loves racing and this was the best way she could think of to be close to the action but ultimately still doesn't like it and Kanata teaches her to drive, she leaves the angels and that's how they fall in love. Also no more qualifying runs. Idk exactly how I'd make that work but ultimately I find qualifying runs really boring and as it is rn they're technically more important than the races themselves, so there should be something else. Maybe he just can pay a fee to enter in so that could add tension that he has to use money he desperately needs for his mother's treatment to gamble himself on a race he has little chance of winning and that can show us how he's fucking insane or something. Which would be endearing and cool when he actually places well. Oh and Sawatari is gone. He doesn't exist anymore.

DISCUSSION: -What would happen if one competitor would've brought a Hillclimb spec car? Will it decimate the competition? Examples: -Carlsson Mercedes 'SLK340' Weighting only 790 kilos and producing an impressive 610 HP at 11,300RPM from a Judd 3.4L V8, it is among the fastest hillclimbers in Europe. You can search for more infos about it in the channel 'FIA Hillclimb Masters'. I've had a previous argument in reddit about the use of Shaken regulation (Road legality of cars in Japan), and found no evidence of such thing being said in the manga, wiki, and anime. It only mandates the use of wider or thinner tires (bridgestones), regarding to the 'grip-to-weight ratio' (which tbh, never been implemented to any existing motorsport category). Also, the MFG regulation never explicitly state the use of slick tires, weight reduction, extensive aero parts, pit stops, tire warmers (I assume its legal because we can see it in the OP), etc. The winning driver is also rewarded aproximately 600k USD each race, and it can easily cover your build in a race (or two at most). That leaves you with 3 Million of prize money per season, given your car is reliable to win 5 races. This left so many plotholes.

I can feel your pain. I got the same treatment there. The Subreddit is just so narrow-minded. Honestly, one of my worst experience on Reddit. Plus, the story is mediocre at best, and that's me being generous. No development on every characters, nobody treat the championships as the real deal. It'll be great if there's stake in line, and characters too root for. Good to know that I'm not alone on this.

I'll be honest, I kept up with the manga until it was announced that it was becoming an anime. I already knew it was gonna suck and I tried to let people know to not get their hopes up, but people ended up disappointed anyways. Gotta give credit to the marketing team though. They appealed to the fanbase's nostalgia and sold them on the idea it was gonna be good. Anyways, I'm just disappointed that this is the legacy of Initial D. It could've been a lot better.

Honestly i agree with the angels part but I don't like how generic that potential back story is as those plot points have been done for years like in speedracer (There was a entire race based around a guy to win for his wifes cancer treatment) and Overtake which was a anime that came out around the same time a MFG was based on someone struggling in F3 partly due to a lack in money for the car. Don't get me wrong as this is common for a reason but I feel they don't particularly fit what MFG needs to improve.

1. The public records aren't his true times. He wasn't pushing to the fullest, said it himself during race 5. He will be setting new times and actually trying for the next season. 2. Keisuke isn't married to Kyoko, but it's going to be someone "Surpsrsing" according to Shigeno. Iketani is still single and still working at the Gas station. Absolute bum. 3. The 86 was sent to the scrapyard, to idk how that would work. 4. Ryosuke has been retired since before project d, and is a doctor full time. Why would he be racing. What you're asking for is just Initial D 2. That's not what MF Ghost is. For better or for worse.

@@ieurobeatkids9378 I read somewhere that AE86 was did send to scrapyard but some other kid from Akina bought it and swapped the engine. And used it for some time for racing and drifting and then only it was scrapped. I know race against the Grim Reaper R32 was Ryouske's last race but it wouldn't be bad to humble a cocky white ass bit(h and get some nostalgia at the same time. How the hell just these 4 requests gonna make a new series? All I'm asking for is some cherries. And BTW this season of MF Ghost wasn't good anyway. They stretched a 2 lap race a whole season. There were annoying _angels_ and flashbacks ruining the intense mood of the race. And Kanata had no character development by the end of the season. Only race scenes, cars and technical info was great.

@jrbudoybudoy Not really. He's never actively involved in MFG due to his main job. There's a reason he makes Keisuke and Fumihiro take care of all if MFG's operations. He was literally in the middle of a surgery when qualifying was happening lol.

The issue isn't really about the angel's existence and even their attire. It's more about we lose 3-5 minutes of what couldve been actual racing plot just to have meaningless underwear fixing and question that doesn't do anything. Those scenes could be used more for Ren's plot but it only is 1/3 of the time, rest is filler.

I like Kouki, but not as a character. He's quite the bad-ass driver (as Season 2 will show) and that's enough to turn the "i only date 17 year olds" into a void. Btw i liked how you didn't say the cookie cutter "shitbox 86 running down Lambos and Ferraris" line, because that didn't happen(in the first race).

And catch up with the tie in of the old characters with the new. I think the start lost a lot of traction by making the old main characters mysterious and scarce. If the show started with an ae86 drifting around corners at the end revealing takumi in the passenger seat and the new main driving would have been a much better kickoff compared to whatever this was.

I persnoally think the main reaosn for there not being as many car manga/anime out there is simply because Initial D set the bar *extremely high* for an anime. doesn't matter when or who, if your anime or manga is set around cars, you bet it's going to be compared to Initial D.

I had a hard time not watching Initial D. Every episode I was hyped for the next one, excited to see what would happen, even if it was just the lame standing around and talking. In contrast, I had a hard time wanting to continue MF Ghost. I stopped at episode 3 and forgot about it for like 3 months before I went back to it.

@@earlgumban yeah but this really misses the opportunity for fans to connect to the new. For a good sequel the main characters need to backseat. But the way it's done here reminds me of yashahime the sequel to inuyasha. The author forced themselves to come up with a story why the old main is backseating. It doesn't feel like he wanted the story this way which lead to bland characters and an unsatisfying brake with the original. In my opinion a good sequel could have most main characters from the original visible in the first few episodes. They are aged and aren't in the center of attention. Maybe they are the parents of the new main characters maybe not. But they should play an active support role like a team for the new main characters. This would be a good setting to naturally include flash backs to further tie the fans back in. Maybe the old main characters scattered after the original end and are gathered unknowingly by the new main characters creating a sense of nostalgia most fans would feel along with as there is a lot of time between the 2 shows. I think with something along these lines and a heavier focus on eurobeat mfg would have had the potential to bridge the decade long gap. This half assed story with uninspiring secrecy about the old mains which feels like it's written to make the old fans cut ties with the old characters and focus on the new is just not how you successfully make a sequel.

Iirc the anime correctly you are wrong regarding the grip to power ratio in MFG, it is grip to weight ratio. The heavier the car the broader the tires can be. Otherwise it would make more sense to have small cars with highly tuned engines that have tons of power outpout instead of heavier cars like an Lamborghini, or Nissan GTR, which are quite heavy compared to the Alpine 110 or Lotus.

Okay but wouldn't adding more downforce also mean adding more weight? You can get the benefit of increased tire grip and aerodynamic grip (the only real disadvantage would likely be increased drag). Plus handicaps aren't as levied on FR-layout cars, so I can imagine something like a C7 Corvette ZR1 could be poised as the best contender to abuse this (on top of having absurd power from factory).

that's kinda the point, at the beginning they do point out it gives an insane advantage to exotics and Italian imports. though the tire thing is used in some classes, Gridlife's GLTC comes to mind. It's also power-to-weight limited, but there's a weight bracket system for average tire width, eg a 2000lbs car would be allowed up to 240 average width tires but a 3000lbs car can run 285 average or whatever. and they're locked to 200treadwear. you can see this in Gears and Gasoline's civic type R and camry-swapped MR2 builds for GLTC

@@arielfernandez8196 Yep, that's a good point to add. A variation of tire width and weight brackets are great ways to ensure balance. GLTC's 12.5 lbs/HP, power-to-weight ratio is also a notable method. GLTC's regulation works because it provides clear instructions of how you should build your car, based on the ruleset. Even adding brackets to specific engine families, aerodynamics (shape & width), gearbox, etc. However, in MFG's context, everything becomes a bit vague. It's not your standard race track, it's a road course twice the size of the Nurburgring. Calculating balance for each variation of cars could be more than challenging. Simply swapping tires based on weight while not accounting for other factors such as CoG, downforce, gear ratio, and power output simply doesn't work. There are just too many loopholes. Also, most vehicles here are listed as stock and receive minimal modifications. My opinion is, that without a clear indication on where the regulation is going to, potentially people would be building their cars based on WTAC or FIA Hillclimb Monsters series. It's alright. The racing is really fun, but I hope the personal stories get flashed out. The MC isn't even that bad. He actually has more personality than Takumi did early in Initial D, but the way the story is framed it just doesn't have the vibes Initial D has as soon as it starts. The reason so many of us resonate with Initial D so much is cause it's so down to earth and we are or know people like the ones in the show. MFG feels more like the Initial D did after 3rd stage. I'd honestly rather have a prequel about Bunta. That would hit the vibes so much better and I think it'd be more interesting since Bunta is a character we don't know much about, but love to watch.

I know that it's a creative work but it's just now i know very much about cars and it's capabilities, technically and potentially compared to when i was a tiny boy watching inital d back then. The idea of lightweight corolla with an actual racing engine smoking every era-accurate (ish) popular jdms on specifically downhill race is acceptable albeit some techniques used are questionable. But an early version gt86 with that puny lifeless boxer engine against porsches , bmws, and lambos? on a full mountain road with lots of ups and downs and straights? It's just too much to wrap my head around with.

I saw the first episode along it's competition (Overtake! / Highspeed Étoile) and liked them more than MFG because the main feels human with their "I want to be faster, then I must practice and believe in myself" while we have here a Gary Stu (Male Mary Sue, aka OP character in almost every aspect) making it feel bland and more of a weekly official eurobeat AMV for the music label that is being used

I would recommend to read the manga before passing judgements. Honestly, the video felt rather lackluster because it only focused on the story till the point season 1 of the anime was made. I will admit that even the manga feels rather mundane outside of the races but it really does delve into Kanata, his backstory and his journey in Japan. Understand that Kanata by nature is a closed up person and he is in a country where he doesn't know many people. As you would progress in the story you would see Kanata open up slowly with Ren as the pair would hunt for clues to find Kanata's father. In the end, if you are going to compare MF Ghost with Initial D, then yes, it is going to severely pale in comparison. But by itself it is a decent story with hints of Initial D here and there which makes it rather endearing to read through. For instance, were you aware that while reading through the manga, you'll find that Takumi ended up marrying Mika Uehara (his GF in 5th Stage)? Or the fact that other than the Takahashi brothers, characters from Todo School and Zero Academy also make appearances as guest commentators? There is a lot of interesting tid bits about our old favorite characters which makes me want to go through this story. If nothing else it helps us glean into what became of the characters post Initial D.

I had the manga and enjoyed it until Project D is formed, a read a couple more volumes and then just tailed off after that. I just feel that at the Project D point you can kinda just see it as an ending of sorts so I was content. Do hold Initial D close to my heart though.

To be fair Initial D just showed japanese cars, because in that years 80s 90s, the big part of cars that take place in touge were JDM, due to the low cost. In MF ghost, we are talking about rich people with sponsors and so on, who can afford an Lambo or Ferrari just for fun. I dont think Kanata is Overpower... Beckenbauer and the French guy are at the same level at least and we dont know if they are even better than the main character. About the story of the anime when they are not racing, i dont find it boring. There are smalls detaills going on like the moment where the mom of rem notice that Kanata learn really quick just by seeing the japanese simbols making reference to the great Photomemory (idk if it is good writed) that kanata has, explaining why he could drive in that way from the very beginning. Of course there unnecesary stuff... and i dont think we need to mention here it is really obvious... ehem Fanservice. but yeah i find it a good anime in general like 7.5/10

Well if they do a 1 for 1 adaptation of the manga, it runs on nostalgia factor with the exact formula as Initial D, the MFG Angels as your standard fan service and street circuit style racing. What I really dont like are the so called "tourists" with the conventional racing arguments such as: -how can an 86 beat a Ferrari -how can bigger tires make a car slower and lose grip on corners and your average western anime fan: -pedophile 21 year old hits on 17 year old girl -why are they dressed like that. Its as if people forget its an anime. At the end of the day, I still prefer Initial D over MF Ghost but its always nice to watch cars go fast with accompanying eurobeat even it doesnt make sense in the real world.

4:51 the regulation is grip to weight ratio not power to grip ratio. Power is unrestricted so they started calling it the rich man's regulation because everybody racing started using high horsepower european models which were unattainable unless you were rich

i agree with also every points you made in this video except two points. 1. about "the p word character. just a reminder Japan's legal age is 16 but that kind of relationship is somewhat frown upon. but japan being japan. it still somewhat close off from the rest of the world culturally. so if judging from japanese's poi dating 17 yo is legal but a bit creepy. and the other point is sexualizing of female charters (angels) i remember that race queen in skimpy outfit (one piece swim suit mostly) still exist in japan at a time the manga came out (at least).
