Nice conversation about being advanced, I think it is relative to your potential, and from a muscle building perspective doesn't have a lot to do with strength beyond a certain point. I'm nearing an advanced stage, but my strength hasn't gone up that much relative to when I was intermediate. You might say with more muscle mass I have higher potential strength, but I think so much about strength is based on leverages and your nervous system, so there is some degree of diminishing returns even if you fill out your frame. From a bodybuilding perspective, being advanced to me means you don't have any glaring weak points, and likely have a few strong points. There's also a level of muscle maturity that plays into it beyond your measurements, and yes, that does exist. It's a certain level of detail and shape to the muscle that comes with time that may not even affect your overall measurement. I think this is just a part of filling out and developing a muscle maximally. I think the Symmetric Strength website's strength standards calculator is very good for figuring out your strength level and deficiencies. It's better than novice/intermediate/advanced because it has more subsections which is a lot more accurate to me (Untrained, Novice, Intermediate, Proficient, Advanced, Exceptional, Elite, World class)

My problem with Dr Mike is when he started spewing libertarian Ayn Rand economic philosophy and kurtzweildian technobabble (even has a separate channel for it) as if he was a philosophy PhD or economist. Because you are an expert on getting jacked it doesn’t not entitle you espouse fringe/cringe philosophy as if you spent years studying contrary theories and principles.

For what it's worth, Dr. Mike has been on some really obscure podcasts that had a tiny following. There have been a few times I've been invited on a tiny podcast and kinda been on the fence about doing it, but then saw that Dr. Mike had done it. The man is many things, but lazy isn't one of em. Might be a bit different the past year or two where the main focus has clearly been on growth and they're probably more selective about how to spend their time.

When i was training with Faz i maxed out my DB set with decent form rows within a year. 50kgs for 10 was pretty standard. Faz has guys rowing almost 70kgs
@DCJayhawk573 күн бұрын
Yeah 50 kg (110 lb) isn't crazy for dumbbell rows, but it's still pretty advanced level if you have good form and you're using your back instead of hips and obliques.

I must be built differently because I'm 5'3, 160lbs 30% bodyfat and I'm the smallest person I know and yet I bench 185 for reps and squat 250 for reps. I guess strength wise I'm intermediate but size wise I'm small

How much are you guys dumbbell rowing? Because I’m weak as shit on most lifts but I can row 100lbs for 15 as well, they arnt crazy strict but they definitely arnt what I would describe as Kroc rows either.
@George-Aguilar7 күн бұрын
Same. Overdevelop back I just do Rose once a week now three sets 120+ you gotta work the other body parts.
@timk82587 күн бұрын
Yeah I was a little confused there as well. Maybe they were just comparing to the other numbers which did seem a lot lower. Last upper body day I did dumbbell seal rows (or really more like a Helms row, not actually laying prone but leaning forward on a pad) with 90lbs for 13. Those I would call strict, chest never left the pad. Traps and rhomboids sore today from them, lol. A week or two back I did one arm DB rows with opposite arm and knee braced on a bench, 120 for 12 reps. I would put the form pretty much halfway between “strict” and “kroc row” for those.

Listening to Dave’s story reminds me of when I lost a lot of weight after finishing at uni. Normally, I sit around 86kg (~18% bf). After uni I started a new job and with very minimal changes to diet / cognisant increase in exercise expenditure, I went down to just about 79kg in 8 weeks. I think there are just times in your life when you are more primed for fat loss. Would be really nice to isolate the variables that lead to that as I could do with another one now! Cheers for the video

I’m very glad you told Abel that he doesn’t need to say, “Just joking,” after each dad joke. But then again, I’m only adding to his inner monologue habits by criticizing his behavior in the first place.
@ssdabel27 күн бұрын
inner monologue? pls tell me what you mean :D
@Chin-Hwa27 күн бұрын
By “inner monologue,” I’m referring to the voice inside your head that is constantly 2nd-guessing your behavior. In your case, I see it occur most often when you criticize your own phrases, jokes, analogies, guest questions, lighting, sound production, and uploading schedule. Selfishly, I wish you would be easier on yourself. But I’m realizing that you constantly 2nd-guessing yourself is part of your charm and that meticulous nature is what makes your questions so unique and nuanced.
