Javert as a character always struck me as a very level-headed guy who SHOULD have an exceptionally collected, possibly detached demeanor I had to be told that chasing Valjean was an unhinged obsession of his, for the desperate commitment in every actor's acting to make sense to me

Philip Quast is like a God in this, so talented and totally dominated his role. Truely unique and no one will even come close to him in this.

Phillip Quast was my introduction to theater at age 2……I am still in awe at his performances!! His sudden departure but then he turns around as if in thought….I love this version of Les Miserables!

I feel like it was a bit much that Javert killed himself. Out of character. He was able to rationalize chasing Valejean for decades over a stolen loaf of bread, ignoring any goodness in him only to kill himself? I feel like Javert would have just kept chasing Veljean, but maybe after being saved, just talked himself into chasing him slower.
