Great video, enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this Helios 44 lens. I just picked up a vintage Helios 44m and have adapted it to fit my Lumix g3. It's opened up a whole new aspect to my photography 📸 😊

Whaaat I'm looking for information about this lense because i want to film my future diy van project/travelling. I really liked this video and voila, you guys have videos on your van journey as well!! I'm going to binge now, you guys are great and love the authenticity and passion. Cheers from Finland 😊😊✨

Wow what a coincidence! These topics are sometimes connected but not always :) we hope you find some tips here on the channel or at least some info about what to prepare for. To be honest I wouldn't film everything with this lens during vanbuild because there is so much work to be done that I like to just use autofocus but I'm sure if you do use it throughout your work the images will be one of a kind. Haven't seen any vanbuild videos filmed on vintage lenses so that's exciting to look for! Send us any updates we're so curious about your build and videos :) Cheers!

Nice video guys. My workmate gave me his Dad's Zenit, and I shot a roll of B&W on it. The anticipation of seeing the results is intense! And had so much fun, just slowing down, shooting with intent, and the analogue experience of loading, winding and rewinding the film brought back memories!

I enjoyed your attitude towards experiencing using film. I have been taking photos using film since I was about eight years old in the late 1940’s. When I was in high school I used a 4x5 sheet film press camera to make photos for the school newspaper and yearbook. There’s something about developing a roll of film and seeing the results. It’s very gratifying. I recently bought a Kiev camera and I am planning on using it soon. Good luck with your channel. I like your enthusiasm.
@zavadventuresАй бұрын
thank you very much we're glad you enjoyed it. There is something unique with every roll and every photo taken on film. We're yet to experience developing film by ourselves but maybe at some point we will have the opportunity to do that :) Good luck with your new/old camera :)

It’s too late to say, but it’s far easier to run wires in flexible conduit through the ribs and channels of the van first, before you insulate and line the roof. Run and mark them. You got there in the end. Looks good

you're right, we should have done exactly that... but it works and we just did our best back then

It’s too late to say, but it’s far easier to run wires in flexible conduit through the ribs and channels of the van first, before you insulate and line the roof. Run and mark them. Then use automotive sika and a couple of holding screws to attach timber strips to the steel of the van then you can attach your shiplap to the ceiling piece by piece

we should absolutely have done that! It would be so much easier! but we learn as we go so there is a lot of back and fourth with all of the stuff.

Manual! We fear the automatic transmissions for the same causes you've listed.
@SteveSuriadjaja Жыл бұрын
@@zavadventures I've got 2015 Master 6.2m long, GVM 4.5T, twin wheels. The AMT won't change gear to 1st or R when it's cold in the morning. Turned out it was a $500 fix, instead of $6,000 quoted by the dealer. They wanted to convert the dual-mass flywheel to a Single-Mass (SOLID)....... The van had only done 45k km when I bought it last year, now it's 70k km

You are using the worst Helios 44-2. The logo in the lens defines the factory. Google "Helios KMZ". You want a KMZ factory lens. Yours is from a Valdai factory. Yes, they suck. I have a KMZ 44 and a 44-2. You can borrow them, pick them up in The Netherlands ;)

There's more than 4 series. There are actually 7, I believe. The later ones had MC reducing flare significantly. Just buy the ones from the KMZ factory. That was the best quality.
@zavadventures Жыл бұрын
Definitely 44-2 has its imperfections and multicoated lenses will have better image quality. This being said... we seek imperfections for their uniqueness. It's a very creative feeling comparing to modern sharp-as-hell, nearly perfect lenses like i.e. sony g masters we daily use.
@ser_igel Жыл бұрын
ayoo, a scott pilgrim reference! edit: oh, they even stated it in the end if you live in ex-USSR country (or near one) it's easy to find it really cheap (like 10-15 euros) on local markets or if you can't find one, you can look for the whole camera like Zenit E or Zenit TTL for 20-30 euros the only downside is it can be damaged or not in a great shape overall (if it has been stored in a humid environment for example, cuz most of them are 30+ years old without use and proper maintenance) so it's kind of a lottery
@zavadventures Жыл бұрын
YEAH! Scott Pilgrim reference caught! We're so glad :) Definitely it's a lottery with these lenses. We had two Helios lenses in the family but only one was usable. It's worn and flares like crazy but for these exact imperfections we like it so much. Not for every project though.
@joshthebuilder247 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your excellent videos! I also watched your more recent video on the Helios 44-2. I am now even more excited to adapt film lenses to my DSLR and explore photography in-depth. Manual focus and exposure settings really does make one slow down to enjoy the environment and plan composition more. Your energy and style is so amazing - I was hooked on your videos right away! Thanks 🇨🇦

Nothing implied here. We were just (sometimes) not feeling safe travelling through some parts of Europe last couple of years. We had bad memories from Italy from a couple of years back... near traumatic event to be honest. We just weren't expecting such hospitality and we got ALL THE HOSPITALITY in Frigiliana. It's an amazing place and Spanish people are fantastic. We loved it so much <3 That's what we meant - we were pointing out our fear in contrast with beautiful reality.

analogue photography is the most exciting form of photography and the purest. Today it's so dull, you just shoot, and shoot and shoot until you get something you think you like... then you get it home and decide you don't like it because you just didn't feel the photo. but with analogue, especially really old analogue, the sort I love to do on 80-100 year old cameras, you put a vast amount of effort into each shot, but the results really do reward you. Yes you screw up quite a bit, but are you a real photographer if everything goes 100% right 100% of the time? My worst mistake was taking my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta circa 1935, out for a shoot, and running off 2 rolls before realising the bellows had a 1mm hole in which ruined around 40% of the shots I'd spent an afternoon seeking out and framing properly. i do highly recommend getting the oldest camera you can, and trying to teach yourself you get as good a shot as they did in the 1900s/20s/30'
@zavadventures Жыл бұрын
that is for sure the most interesting approach we saw here :) We admire giving so much love and effort into the craft. While digital photography has it's place (for example in reporter's work or events etc.) the analogue is the absolute win for art and being present while shooting. And the outcome is always exciting one way or another. Even seemingly ruined shots are sometimes works of art themselves.
