Christian Bale was either 19 or 20 when he played Laurie. I agree with you completely. The 1994 version is the best overall, but this one shows the romance blossom between Amy and Laurie.

I think Amy truly loved laurie but Idk if laurie truly loved Amy. I think the book meant to portray it as tru love but the movie probably didn’t have enuf time to develop their love.

But in the book, Jo never regretted her decision to not marry Laurie. She never wrote him a letter right before he and Amy got married. Jo already loved Frederick Baer. I don’t like that this movie changed that key part of the story.

He had returned to vices and it is Amy who wakes him up. For her, he wishes to become a man worthy of her love. When he comes back and talks to Jo, in the movie they cut off the conversation. In the book, Laurie confesses that he stopped loving Jo long before he fell in love with his wife. He admits that he loves every detail of Amy's new character. And even during this conversation, Laurie tells Jo that he spent the best days of his life on his honeymoon in Valrosa with her beloved wife. And Jo felt that her friend had forgotten that he was talking to her, but she was happy, because the last time she had seen him he was full of sadness and a gray aura surrounded him, but what she saw now was a man who was happy and in love. Lourie also asks her to be friends again, he tells her he will always love her, but that her love for her has changed, as the love he felt for Amy has changed too. The order in which things happen does not favor Amy and Laurie's partner at all, but he does love her. Take into account that they met again after years and then they spend months together. Laurie was supposed to stay only one week on Paris, baut he decides to stay more for Amy. She was no longer a child and Laurie fell in love with her. The movie changed the fact that Laurie helped Amy to organize the reunion of the music teacher and Jo. It was Laurie and Amy who invited him. The author wrote that after the birth of her first child, Amy grew deeper and more tender; while Laurie became more serious and strong. They both complemented and supported each other because they loved each other and they loved their daughter Beth.
