Used to fish Melrose area when I lived their and caught plenty but the river's not quite what it used to be

Great place to fish! True but this season is very good, this beat has 32 fish already, which is equal to what they had the whole season last year.

@@Hookedonfly they used to catch that in one beat each week back in they days I myself caught many salmon on trout flies! Mertoun estate has some good pools further down the water that hold good fish there's some deep pools and the cauld on the upper beat always supplies good luck 🤞

Thanks 👍 The new set up definitely made a difference in my fishing. New rod is really nice to cast, I’m getting more distance with minimum effort and new reel just sounds amazing! Tight lines 👊

Thanks very much, it was a good fight and lovely fish as you said. The reel is LTS Thore, really nice reel. I only got it recently so it’s nice to get a fish on it straight away, love the sound of it.

Chewed yup flies can be great! Suggestion - start with shorter line. I have fished the beat oppositie (Cardronna) later in the season.

Well done. Nice fish, but treat yourself to a set of forceps. It makes removing the hook a lot easier.
