It's not actually permanently raised. Chicago made it a historical landmark, so Union Pacific lowers it once a year, runs a Hi-rail truck over it to the street beyond, and raises it again. That's enough to keep it classified as "active" even though it leads nowhere any more. Which is a damn shame. It used to serve the Chicago Sun Times before they abandoned the building, and the tracks were ripped up afterward.
