It's a reality of sailing. Have to take the good with the bad. It can go up several notches from this. But depends on where you sail. Like around the world east to west in low latitudes and you will be going downwind in nice conditions most of the time.

So maybe the boat you saw was in distress and trying to warn you of the danger?

8:50 perfect conditions and a joy to be on the water, during the day that is, nights are nothing short of fearsome for a lone sailor in windy conditions!

Good eyes you have. Yes that needs to be bogged and repainted. There are other places that will also need doing and a better paint job

The keel is Mae from Durex. It's a very high quality stainless steel. It's doesn't corrode easily. the bulb on the bottom of the keel is lead.

Why people sail alone?? It is much more enjoyable to sail with a group of people!!!
@captainscarlegs3621
@captainscarlegs3621 Ай бұрын
The main reason for me is people are too busy working and worrying about money and commitments that they don't have time to go sailing. Also it's not for everyone. It can be tough and I prefer not to novices.

I used 2 pack polyurethane paint. This is a top coat. For the sail. I used water based acrylic exterior house paint. Dulux brand. Hope this helps.

Did you consider making the inner forestay removable with a Highfield lever? It would save Furling the headsail every time you tack.
@captainscarlegs3621
@captainscarlegs3621 3 ай бұрын
Yes I did but I have running backstays and a runner to support the inner forestay. It's easier to furl the headsail than to remove and put back the inner fore stay. The inner forestay needs to be in place before tighting the running backstays.

Yeah, nice video. I was thinking about painting an older sail I brought as a back up for my trip up to Indo and this video popped up. I'm going to see what paint I can find in Lombok. Did you use a primer first?
@captainscarlegs3621
@captainscarlegs3621 3 ай бұрын
It has not come off anywhere yet and if it did it's very easy to touch up. No I didn't use primer. I used Dulux weather shield. Someone told me you don't need primer with that paint. How is your mainsail going. Can you share what type of sailcloth?
