Very nice job… the only thing I’ll recommend is have a stainless bushing inserted with tef-gel on the new chainplate, in order to avoid the hole getting oval

Thanks, would like to be doing more but with all the other things in life, working ect. I don't want to release a video until I feel there is good content. a lot of sailing channels pumping out 100s of video of doing things like going to the supermarket. Should be sailing soon and if I can get away I have some long distance voyages planned.

That's a great bit of work. A storm sail is a very useful thing to have, and as you say the extra stay will be a mast saver should the forestay fail. I am in cold, damp NE Scotland. On the North sea coast on a week of constant haar. I wish I was on a sailing yacht in Fiji...

@@captainscarlegs3621 It is cool and wet a lot but mostly recreational sailors in coastal waters don't go out in gales. Certainly I don't. There is no need as usually there aren't many days with gales, and few people sail over winter. The season for sailing is April to late September for most. Fiji sounds like an amazing place. I need to get there soon.

Mate only used a S jib once off the Waiarapa coast NZ & i wished it was SMALLER , Nice Job . You will probably find the genoa will come around OK as the inner stay is well back , Just let the wind back it a little before releasing the sheet ... Fair winds .

Great redundency and safety, well done. Wow, 14month, you are indeed a man of great paitience (which perfectly suits sailing single handed lol) Would you need a full luff length storm jib? Possibly, a storm jib would be more beneficial if it's area is not greater than 5% of the height of the foretriangle squared, and a maximum luff length of 65% of the height of the foretriangle.

Yes I think the storm jib will work fine. Have to try it in strong wind. I'm not patient. I was freaking out in the beginning that it might take a whole week to repair. Fingers crossed it's soon.

Got the hydraulic ram from them today . Yeepee. Put some extra paint on it just now. Will get it in later in the week. Only a valve that they lost a part from. A washer. They said they will make one but will not be able to get it working until that is done.

Did you consider making the inner forestay removable with a Highfield lever? It would save Furling the headsail every time you tack.
@captainscarlegs3621
@captainscarlegs3621 7 ай бұрын
Yes I did but I have running backstays and a runner to support the inner forestay. It's easier to furl the headsail than to remove and put back the inner fore stay. The inner forestay needs to be in place before tighting the running backstays.
@tonypurkiss6022

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what you had been up to over the last 12 months. Did you consider a Highfield lever for the inner for stay? It could've been removed and pulled back against the shrouds out of the way when not in use. I was in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart race and trust me, your storm Gib is more than enough should you face similar conditions like we had in that race. I look forward to the episode on the keel, it will be a big one! Cheers from Newcastle Australia.

I would prefer to have the stay fixed in place. The running backstays are now changed and am not sure if tentioning them with the inner fore stay out would be a good thing. I have released a couple of videos during that time, One has a segment on the keel, you may have not been alerted by youtube. IBet that was a race to remember the 1998 Sydney to Hobart and a good story.

I have x2 100 amp AGM - fitted a “smart” batt regulator (Balmar) Don’t think standard car truck regs are good enough in marine conditions.I now see 14.7 going in Monitors Alt and Bat temp etc.etc😊used existing 100 amp alt - did need old reg removed.

I really like your boat, it ticks off almost all the boxes I would consider for a boat. Did you ever consider a solent style rig on the forestay, both with roller furling, so as to fly two genoas port and strbrd with spinnaker poles outboard.
@captainscarlegs3621
@captainscarlegs3621 Жыл бұрын
Thanks it is a good design. I think the solent is more suited to masthead rig. Haphazard is 3/4 rig and forstay needs tention from running backstay

Thanks. Good to know a fellow Radford owner. What one do you have? The mast fitting is lightweight and the inner fore stay is 8mm and about 9-5m long. I didn't weigh it but guess around 6kg or so.

Wow, where is the LOVE button! This boat is full of great ideas. Ours is a Van de Stadt 34 built in the Nederland now in Vancouver BC Canada Steel with hard chine ( www.youtube.com/@sailinglaysan4453 ) I have been thinking about a storm stay, I love how you did yours. Also the "basket/fence" on the boom to catch the main sail. After looking at you three swept-aft spreaders and with diamond stays and reverse top spreaders, I like my single pair. LOL This thing is bullet proof, I am going to have to binge watch your channel!

Hi there. You have a good designed boat. Van DER stadt 34. I built a steel Van der stadt vita 30 . Almost identical to the 34. Very good boat. Loved it . Lived onboard for about 8 years. The 34 is a solid boat that sails well and has a good interior design. I'm sure it will serve you well.
