Hi - I'm so excited to try and do this setting for a beautiful older bead of yours. I'm trying to follow your instructions exactly (I don't need to reinvent the wheel while attempting this new technique - I have limited experience with taps and dies). I've looked at Hoover and Strong and some other suppliers and I don't see the 3.25mm tubing. I've ordered the tap and die size you used and made the threads, etc. in a piece of larger sized heavy wall tubing that I had on hand, but it's not really the snug fit that's needed. Am I missing something on the Hoover and Strong site that shows the 3.25mm tubing? If I use my larger tubing (3.5mm ish) I assume I need to use a larger gauge wire? and if so how do I figure out what tap and die size to use? (I'm assuming my problem is the larger tubing). Thanks!!!
@kristinaloganglass6 күн бұрын
I am excited to hear that you are trying out this technique! You have some leeway with the tubing size. You could use a 3mm x .020 tubing and it will work. I called Hoover&Strong and they sill carry the 3.25mm x .020 tubing but it is not updated on their website. Calling directly is the best bet. You can use the larger tubing you indicated but you will have to either experiment with the tap&die sizes or get into the details and read all the fine print about your tap&die to see what the thread cutting dimensions are. That is where a little set of tap&dies can come in handy so you can compare. I have always just stuck to what has worked for me over the years. Please share if you find another solution! Happy to be of help. And best of luck getting going!!!

Having your marver at eye level like that, never seen that before but I'm going to try that. I've spent thirty years making marbles, just now trying to get back into beads and saw your video. Your methods are very similar to how I was taught to make beads many years ago with wrapping on the shoulder of your last wrap, etc. I've got to get my bead skills back, it's driving me nuts and I'm supposed to be teaching my wife, my own bead making mediocrity is frustrating when I've been doing marbles for so long lol -J. Hi Kristina, I love that I can watch and learn from you again on KZbin. I took a 3 day class from you in Glendale, AZ about 10-12 years ago. It was fabulous, we learned how to make a disk bead and mount it on a silver disk and make rings. I haven’t sat at my torch for years, life got in the way… but I’m inspired to go fire it up again. This is the perfect video to get me started. I’m curious what kind of “ruler” gauge that is attached to your table?
@kristinaloganglass26 күн бұрын
Hi Deborah, I’m happy to hear that you feel inspired! I will keep making videos here so you will always have a place to come for ideas and technique. The little measuring tool is resting on my bench and not actually attached. You can see me picking it up in other videos. It is a simple brass caliper that you can find from many jewelry suppliers. Quality varies as well as prices. Happy Making!

Thank you so much for sharing! I began lamp working in the early 2000’s, and have always been a huge fan of your work, but I never had the opportunity to take a class with you-they always filled up by the time I heard about them. I have been away from my torch for a few years due to some major life changes, but I am in the process of unpacking my flame working and jewelry tools, so that I can get back into it. Your videos are really inspiring me!!!! You are still the GOAT when it comes to precision! I mean my dot work was pretty darn good back in the day, but you are truly in a league of your own. Once again, thank you for being so generous with your knowledge!!!!

So beautiful and elegant! It looks such a ‘simple’ design, but so much work and precision! This was so lovely to watch and it shows off your beads so perfectly (but I confess I’m likely to stick to using purchased bails or wire wrapping because I don’t have the patience or equipment for this)
@kristinaloganglassАй бұрын
Thank you! And I have to laugh because this technique indeed involves patience. Funny how a day long project can be condensed into a 10 minute video.
